Ah, what to say about this place... Not that my opinion will do much to deter the ND riff raff from patronizing this "dirt" hole. Firstly, the bar itself is a dump. It is poorly run and abysmally managed. The aging wanna-be bikers in charge treat customers like they are a hassle. It takes 20-30 minutes to get a bartender's attention and even then it's a crap-shoot on whether or not you will actually get your drink. If you want to hang around 21 year old ND kids who define the term "socially awkward", then it's a great place. On top of all this they - quite literally - robbed me. After purchasing one pitcher for around $6.00 I regretfully left my credit card and ID behind. I awoke the next morning to a fresh $20 charge on the card. When I attempted to get my card back the next day I discovered that the place opens essentially whenever they feel like it (around 11pm) and I was forced to pay COVER while they held my credentials hostage, then told I must sign the disputed receipt or not get my cards back and be forcibly removed by the bouncers. I regret ever setting foot inside of this place. CJ's Pub, just around the corner, is an excellent alternative for a weekend night out. Come on, this is a college-town dive bar. People who gave it one-star clearly thought it was something else before showing up. I'm not itching to go back, but when I'm in town I won't snobbishly dismiss it out of hand. The place is mildly large (unlike Backer) and the bar is decently long, which means you don't have to fight through eight other people (unlike Corby's). The music is like EVERY OTHER COLLEGE BAR: top 40, dance, whatever people recognize. There's one awkwardly lonely pool table, which frequently converts to a flipcup table (which is awesome if you show up early, with a group. Or you like making new friends). Drinks were cheap! I came back to town for a wedding and compared to what I have to pay pretty much anywhere else in the states, this place was so cheap. I think a pitcher of Miller was $6 on a Saturday. Whoever thinks that's expensive needs to stop drinking alone: yes a 30 of Keystone will be less than $1/beer, but bars operate at a profit. There is a $5 cover, no matter how empty the place is. Downsides? It's a college hole-in-the-wall bar. There's nowhere to sit and have a conversation (music is pretty loud anyway). Bathroom's are small. Even with a long bar and multiple tenders, you may have to wait ~5 minutes to get another pitcher (unless you tip well, then you stand out in the broke college crowd and will get service). $20-minimum to open a tab and they are not open Sundays so if you forget your ID and credit card and are flying home, you're f'ed. (Turns out TSA can't require you to have a picture ID, just something government-issued with your name on it) This isn't the best bar in South Bend in any category, but it's a good place to kill an evening. read more

I'm not sure why this place gets two stars. It's dirty, they charge cover (COVER?!?!), and the space is awkwardly arranged. I'm not even sure if the drinks are cheap. Why can't I remember if the drinks are cheap? Because every time I come to FINNEGAN'S, I pretty much don't remember anything between midnight and noon. So I guess I have a good time at this very unremarkable, kinda bothersome dive bar, and I guess that's why it gets two stars. Honestly, this is not only my favorite place in South Bend, but probably the whole world. The champagne, although below average when sober, is the nectar of the gods to a drunk college student. The tinted blue lighting and steel walls bring a joy to me that I can only hope to explain one day to my grandchildren. read more

A fun, cute way to spend your weekends in the South Bend area. I generally prefer to go only after I get back from the gym and library after a long week and am in the mood to unwind with a good OTPMD. If you take it for what it is, Blarney Stone (known as Finny's), is a fun place to spend every single weekend of the year, despite its egregiously unsanitary bathrooms, floors, walls, ceilings, chairs, and personnel. Despite its reputation as a raunchy college bar, notable people such as Bruno Mars, Alfred Molina, David F. Levi, and Gary Busey have all been known to frequent the bar in the past. read more

AKA Finnegans. This place is a drunken crowded mess there is nothing redeeming about it at all. There's a cover charge, yes really, the drinks aren't cheap, the dancefloor and bathrooms are disgusting. I've had the displeasure of being here when the lights are turned on and I felt like I needed a long hot shower to get rid of the filth that is everywhere here. I don't know why people come here its probably just tradition and ingrained in the Notre Dame student population. There are several other bars in the area that are better than here but they don't draw the crowd on the "finnies" night. I'm happy that I'll most likely never go here again. Also don't try and sneak in with a bad ID they have about 5 qualified experts who examine your ID before you get in. read more

What on earth is The Blarney Stone. Among ND students it is known as Finnegan's or Finnies. The place is fairly large with a long bar stretching on one side and a dance floor on the other side. There isnt really a distinction from where the dance floor is and where the bar is - thus making it a very sticky bar. If you have nice shoes leave them at home. Wearing them to Finnies is a guaranteed way to ruin them. Weekends are typically packed from wall to wall with ND students and St. Mary's girls. If you are familiar with the Backer this is the exact opposite I would say. The cover is more and much dirtier. There is a cover here on weekends and also on game days. Price wise it is not all that cheap....if you are able to get a drink. It seems like they purposely under staff themselves just for fun. Expect to push your way to the bar and wait a long time. But with that being said if you are a student in the mood to get loose, dance and had a few drinks this is the place to go in South Bend read more

what can i say about this bar that hasn't already been said about afghanistan? i have traveled the world, searching far and wide for the most enjoyable drinking establishment and i can honestly say, without reservation, that the blarney stone is unparalleled in quality. the beer selection is unequaled, the clientele's class is unmatched, and the dj is always playing the hits. the place is clean, there's plenty of room to sit, and everyone drinks responsibly. you don't wanna miss jazz thursdays! there are a wealth of things to do in the clean and safe city of south bend, but if you can find time to work "finnegan's" into your schedule, i'd highly recommend it. read more
