Me and a colleague were in town for work. I wanted to go somewhere nice but not too expensive. This restaurant has meals between 20-30$. I was happy with what I received. To be honest the Irish Stew wasn't the best I've had. The taste was great but felt more like a soup than a stew. What stood out at this place was the beautiful atmosphere and the wonderful service! A disappointment; we were so excited when it opened, but although the location and space are great, the food just isn't up to the quality of sister bistro 1886 Lakehouse in Callander. Also, on weekend afternoons there is always an amateur singer playing...why do they need a microphone? it's not that large a place, and the amplified music is far too loud and echoing, not to mention frequently off-key. On our second visit during the Mother's Day Weekend brunch hour, the musician played a long string of loud and lugubrious folk songs that prompted us to finish quickly and flee. If I drop in for a beer with friends, we want to talk to each other, not be stuck with a guy shouting "How y'all doing this afternoon?!" between songs and expecting us to respond enthusiastically as if we're at a rock concert. Better food and a little background jazz at a subdued volume would have me coming back. read more

My husband and I were here on the weekend and loved the atmosphere! The service was good too. The best thing we ordered was the duck wings. The shrimp and scallop fritters tasted good but they were tiny and you get 4 for $18. Very overpriced. My bison burger was good but kind of overcooked. My husband's seafood pasta in a spicy tomato-based sauce was decent. My favourite thing was the apple butter old fashioned that I ordered after the meal. It was like a slice of apple pie in a glass! Service from Tia was the worst service any of us has ever had. Unfriendly, did not remove our dishes after we were well done eating, did not offer drinks, did not offer a dessert menu, we tried to joke with her multiple times, nothing! All 5 of us have never had worse service in North Bay. What an unpleasant person to have in your establishment. Met up with friends who later told us their daughter works there and they knew exactly which server we were talking about! Might want to get this bad egg out of your establishment. read more

An honest review. Went for our 14th anniversary, booked in advance informing of food intolerances. We booked an early reservation, we were the only people in the restaurant and the chef was NOT willing to accommodate the food intolerances that we previously listed and menu had completely changed since we had booked. The further disappointment was that your main either included a salad or fries, no veg option. great dinner last evening at the Block. we had made reservations, but it was nice to find out they are supporting the Capitol Centre by offering a special meal in honour of the musical about the Dionne quints. superb atmosphere, excellent service. my husband said "best steak he's eaten recently". I tried the vegan cauliflower steak - a little garlicky for my taste, but no complaints. 2nd visit in past month, and no issues. we'll be back! read more

WOW WOW WOW! Great food, great location and great service! Lexie, our server was an absolute delight! Lexie took the time to explain the origin of the restaurant and elaborated on all of our menu selections. Our son ordered the gnocchi and he said it was delicious! Not an Alfredo fan but he really enjoyed the goat cheese base of the sauce and fresh mushrooms! Hubby had the Bison burger and beer cheese soup...many many flavours in the burger but the apple whiskey BBQ sauce was a little rich...still very enjoyable. Thumbs Up on the beer cheese soup! I had the soup of the day...nice, light and flavourful and the Beef Yorkies appetizer! The yorkies were delicious...great flavour and the fresh mushrooms were top shelf! We really enjoyed watching the mixologists behind the bar! All in all, a great dining experience and we will be back! read more
