The only problem came from another customer who made unreasonable demands due to the fact that she felt spinach didn't belong in a spring mix (baffling). Bad experience all around. Service bad, they don't pay attention to their tables, owner rude and no wits about her speaking to a calm customer who communicated very clearly. Didnt even get to play a game because they created so many issues for us. Both myself and my date were more than displeased, I had to split my sandwhich. we came hungry and left hungry with a side of bad taste in our mouth from the owners rude attitude and lack of business ethics. Food bad, basic food that's overly expensive, small portions except for large portions of cheap bad ingredients chips. They don't know the difference between spring mix and sauted spinach or was just very old, slimy, wilted. We regret choosing this place. Ridiculous experience and business owner who certainly does not have any education or experience around food or business. As someone who's worked in both I'm disgusted by this experience, especially coming from the owner. She wouldnt even remake the sandwich or ma a different one which either way would have been cheaper than the one she had to take off the bill and throw away anyway. so they knew we left hungry and continued being rude. The owner said if she remade it then you'd be getting a free one. there was 2 bites taken out of the sandwich and the second was very forced after trying to take out the spinach which was not spring mix. they didn't try to make things right when we let go split my sandwich and both looked upset to even be there. we wanted to leave and honestly should have. I called today and the owner started raising her voice telling me that she said she'd make it when clearly that did not happen. You don't raise your voice when you're talking about an issue you created for someone else and not only didn't fix but continue to keep making more havoc. We just wanted a meal and to play a game. Love this place! My coworkers and I visited every Wednesday night during our internship. They have hundreds of board game selections and it's a great atmosphere. Food is a bit pricey but great proportions and definitely fits the "comfort food" standard. read more

I just saw an ad in Seven Days and do we went last night to check it out. I was blown away by the venue's plethora of games of every kind imaginable. They even do one offs of D&D on Sundays at 1pm (be sure to reserve a spot). Justin, one of the servers, is the DM. The fee is $6 per person which isn't bad at all. Hand sanitizer at each table to keep the games germ-free (Thank you). You can play unlimited for $30/month and there is an annual membership as well (but I forget the price). The service is excellent and friendly. The menu has a decent array of comfort game-playing food: sandwiches (grinders and grilled), popcorn, Bugles with a choice of dip, hand made milkshakes, decadent desserts. The beer list was great and very affordable. $3 for a draft of the day! I ordered the roast beef grinder and got it loaded with toppings. It was super thinly sliced roast beef with cheese of choice. It was quite good, but I'm used to grinders that are much longer than the tiny sandwich I was offered for $9 (It wasn't even a 6-inch). My friends grilled ham with Gouda was bigger. I'll stick with grilled sandwiches in the future. It's super cosy, really warm atmosphere. Very inclusive, family friendly as well. We will definitely be back. read more

For what it's worth, I don't stop and review businesses idly, not because I don't wish them well or anything, but more because I never get around to it. I'd like to make an exception to that and give an enthusiastic thumbs-up to our local board game cafe, The Boardroom - Board Game Cafe in Burlington (literally just across the river from Winooski, at the Chace Mill). Lots of metro areas have boardgame cafes where you can drop in, play a game, get a bite to eat, and hang out, but mysteriously, Chittenden County didn't until seven weeks ago. The staff (Kerry, Preston, and Justin are the folks we've interacted with) are super friendly and super knowledgeable -- if you walk in and say "I want a game that involves livestock and aliens that can be played in under an hour and that takes less than ten minutes to learn" their eyes will unfocus for a second and then they'll go "Right!" and lead you right to said game. And then they'll helpfully explain the rules to whatever extent you need help. Apparently they know all the rules for every game ever created. They have, literally, hundreds of games, for every age and skill level. The food there is very good also -- they have giant pretzels, plates of pickles, sammiches of all kinds, drinks, coffee, you name it. At the end of every session, they bring you complementary cotton candy. What's not to like? I do not own stock in The Board Room nor do I expect to gain materially by posting this over-the-top review. I just want them to stay open and prosper so *I* can hang out there and play games. read more

My friend and I went there last night Monday 11/2/2021. We both had grilled cheese and I can say its worth the 15 minute wait for a grilled cheese that was personally cooked with fresh ingredients and everything. This place is up and coming, but their game library rivals all of New England. We came down for a birthday trip from Maine and spent literally 11 hours there. It's not located on the Chace Mill like I initially thought but this super chill spot is ideal for lovers of board games, with yummy homemade snacks and amazing customer service.
