It is a fine dining gem right on the edge of the beach, with an absolutely breathtaking view to match the food. The waitstaff are of top level professionalism and have wonderful dementors. The interior of the restaurant is curated with pieces of art by local artists which gives it a very homey feel, while also providing lovely pops of colour. The menu seems complex but don't be afraid to try anything. Every single thing on the menu has layers of flavour and which will surprise you and make you wanting more. The option for 3 small dishes is the way I like to go, as you get a better selection of flavours. This place is perfect for date nights, anniversaries, birthdays, group events, or even showing off to your foodie mates. The price is a bit high in comparison to most places on the central coast but that's because the coast doesn't have many fine dining restaurants. Absolutely worth every cent. Finally ordered lunch at 11:40, but food didn't arrive till like 12:25pm. My kids have started going crazy at that point, and when I asked about food at 12:15 we were told the food hasn't even started yet. By all measure, I felt very ready and justified to give a 1 star. But - the food was genuinely good. The owner did apologise. We did get a few complementary drinks. It was a busy day before Mother's Day. So here we are, just 1 star short of a perfect score. I had never heard of succotash. It was described to me as a hearty baked beans. It was really good. The menu is filled with more traditional breakfast options but has a few surprises thrown in like the summery coconut quinoa with fresh mango, pineapple and toasted coconut. The coffee is from the Byron Bay Coffee Club Company and was good. Not great but good. I personally prefer a stronger coffee. We were one of the many people standing outside, waiting for the doors to open at 9am. I recommend making a table reservation if you are planning on coming with a group. The restaurant is much larger than it looks from the street and offers seating in the main dining room or outside in a covered courtyard. We opted not to go alfresco and sat in the dining room. The wait staff were attentive and very happy to answer any questions about the menu candidly and honestly. With a mix of smooth tunes playing on the stereo and families, couples and old friends filling the Cooks Garden restaurant, it caters for all.
