We ditched the kids and headed out for our anniversarry dinner. After a quick stop next door at their attached bar (see my Garden Tap review), we sat down for our first fine dining experience (san kids) in 12 months.
I should say at this point that my review may be slightly biased by the fact that this was our first night sans kids in 12 months. Now our kids are (don't tell them I said this), damn fine kids and generally pleasant to be around. But nothing beats a night out, just the two of us. Romantic. With no teeneger or tween in the way. I could snog my beloved without some youngster piping up with "Eeeewwww... get a room you two".
The food was great. The company was fantastic. We went the full 3 courses with wine (by the glass.. unfortunately, close as it is to home, we still had to drive).
My only criticism was that the food is a little bit too... complicated. Too many ingredients. I'm a fan of simple when it comes to food. Let the ingredients come through. If you have a really nice primary ingredient, it doesn't really need a fancy sauce, and a fancy side dish and be served on a bed of fancy something else. Well, may be one of those, but not all of them at once. It just gets confusing.
That's a minor quibble though. It was a fantastic evening and the food really was great. I won't give spoilers but save room for dessert.
I do have to add, it isn't a cheap night out. This came to just under $200 for the two of us. OK, we did have a glass of wine each, but even so, it was an expensive dinner. Worth every cent, but be aware of that. Personally we thought the food was worth it. read more
