(If you know, you know.) Our mom needed help to manage her pre-diabetes condition and our dad needed support to understand proper nutrition and balance. Both needed to exercise more regularly yet carefully since they are both in their 80s. The past year has been a journey for my parents...accepting new ideas, establishing different eating and exercise patterns and modifying lifelong habits. We are super proud of them for what they have been able to accomplish because it has not been easy to modify those lifelong ideas, habits and patterns. But they are doing it. None of their health progress could have happened without Sophie's patient and gentle guidance. She speaks English and Mandarin with them and understands our culture, diet and our parents' generation. She respects them but also challenges them. And they listen to her! My parents work with Sophie on being mindful of their food choices, as well as mobility and strength training. She gives my parents the support and inspiration to keep moving and motivation to take care of themselves physically and mentally. Sophie is a gift. She is conversational and can talk about almost anything. One conversation, we ended up talking about our feet - and how to cope with bunions. She gave topnotch advice about what type of shoes, sneakers to wear, and about how to stretch your toes to give each toe space to move, and the importance of practicing being barefoot at home. She has had a lot of personal experiences with diets, health, and general well-being, and has a healthy attitude in questioning established norms that actually do not help, but hinder optimal health. She is as knowledgable as she is enjoyable to work with!

I am SO UPSET that I do not live in the area and can continue to come to this gym. They have ruined me. I cannot accept basic yoga classes anymore. Took advantage of their 7days for $7 trial. Loved it so much I went twice a day. Then I purchased a 10 class pack so I could exercise during the rest of my visit. It didn't matter the class type or the instructor, if I had time I was there. And didn't even care that I couldn't do half the moves, the staff and patrons are so welcoming, ya just wanna be there. Loved everything about this establishment; staff, amazing. Classes, fire. Parking, plentiful and free! The space is not large, but they maximize it in a way that doesn't feel over crowded. Downside is that there is no shower, but there are 6am classes, so plenty of time to get yourself home and off to work by 8am :) I look forward to returning when I am In the area.

Switching to this gym has been a breath of fresh air. MFC is run by a hardworking and friendly family who's always quick to help and the gymgoers contribute to the overall chill vibe that I love about this place. Equipment: TONS. There's every attachment possible for the cable machines. In addition to having all the typical plate-loaded and pin machines and dumbbells (in 2.5 lb increments too!) for the general fitness enthusiast, they also have specialty equipment for bodybuilding, strongman, olympic weightlifting, and powerlifting. I started coming here to prep for a powerlifting meet and appreciate the 2 combo racks, multi-station rig, many deadlift platforms, and multiple benches. There's plenty of powerlifting equipment so I've never had to wait to SBD. Community: The folks who come here are respectful and have good gym etiquette. Some folks keep to themselves; they're locked in and focused on their own workouts. Other folks enjoy talking more and building friendships as they train. To each their own - I just love that folks wipe down their equipment after use and rerack their weights. Bathroom: Super clean with multiple stalls, showers, and lockers inside Parking: Spacious, free parking lot. I've never encountered this, but if the lot was ever full, you could easily find (free) street parking Bonuses: There's a large cubby shelf located under the stairs for us to drop our stuff off while we work out. There's also a charging station and several cleaning sprays + constantly restocked towels so we can easily wipe down equipment (and ourselves) They offer $5 day passes on the last Friday of every month so take advantage of that to come check out how awesome this gym is. $65 for the monthly membership is such an invaluable investment for all that MFC provides. I find it interesting that they lock access to certain rooms, only to be opened with your membership. Sometimes you have to wait a bit for machines, but otherwise, it's a really convenient new gym.

It's an encouraging, collaborative, and welcoming learning environment where Coach takes time to focus on and refine technical skill, depth of knowledge, and rhythm. I recall in particular how Coach Joe took the time to fix my middle kick in a way that really clicked. He takes special care and attention to help you learn not only the proper form of a move but also the why behind it. Once you have it, it's impossible to forget. If he takes the time to help you correct something, just know that he believes in your capacity for growth and improvement. He is a wellspring of expertise. This learning environment is also reinforced by the athletes and experienced students who I've had the pleasure of training with.
