I've been thinking about this review. 3 stars due to customer service, 5 stars for the work. I'm ecstatic about the tattoo and how it turned out, but I'm upset with the additional surprise charges. I went in for a consult with Gray, AMAZING artist, discussed my want and he quoted me a price, to which I agreed and put down a deposit. No issues. The day of the tattoo work, he completes the design and stencil, and before he begins, asks if it's OK to charge an extra $100 as it's a bigger design than originally thought. I agree. Gray completes the work and tells me to checkout at the front, as he had a consult waiting for him. I receive the final amount from the person running the desk, and was charged an additional $300, that's now $400 over original quote. Granted $100 I agreed to, so no complaints there. When I asked about the increase, I was told it was for the additional time it took to complete the work. Buyer beware going to this parlor. Get your quote in writing!! read more

Hands down my favorite tattoo shop! I walk in and instantly feel like part of the family! Burke, Rob & Matt are all extremely talented artists along with the other ladies and gents at the shop! Lucy at the front desk always greets you with a smile 5 tattoos from these guys and I plan on getting several more Update: went back last Monday to get another piece of ink and my nipples pierced. I could withstand HOURS of tattoo pain but something about piercing makes me want to melt into the floor. I have now gotten three tattoos at the body gallery. Every time I am there to schedule an appointment, consult with my artist, and arrive for my tattoo the shop has been spotless. Not only that but the staff are incredibly friendly. Even the staff I don't have an appointment with are amazing. Grey has done my three tattoos as I do a lot of black ink artwork and he is an a credible artist, very friendly, and just a joy to work with. He is very educated in his passion and is my reasoning why if I'm in the DMV I will only go here. Of all the tattoo shops I have visited in North America and Europe. I came to the Body Gallery because I wanted a dope geometric pattern on my left shoulder. I loved Nina's artwork and decided to go with her. Nina convinced me to get my whole back done instead of just my shoulder, which is what I originally asked for. Nina came up with an original design and we had our first session. After the session, I emailed Nina to follow up and schedule some shading before my next scheduled appointment. Nina got increasingly annoyed with my questions and ended up canceling my shading and all future appointments. She said she didn't want to work with me anymore. I was shocked, dumbfounded and full of questions at this moment. I couldn't believe this artist just quit on me. I tried to work this out offline and asked the owner, Jenny, if she could help out. Jenny tried to talk to Nina about finishing my tat, but Nina refused, her only reason being that "I wasn't going to like the design no matter what she did." I asked a total of three questions via email and called the shop to speak to Nina once before she cancelled all appointments. I am now stuck with an unfinished, original piece of art that needs to completed by someone else or covered up completely. Unfortunate experience, I'd never recommend them solely based on their customer service. Update: In response to Jenny's comment below. Their response confirms the type of people you'd be dealing with if you go here. They've been full of hostility, I've never experienced anything like this before. They seem to be complaining about responding to an email on Nina's day off. That was Nina's choice, she could have responded when she got back to the shop. I only had one question: how was this tat going to turn out. Nina replied, but her response led to more questions. She tried to explain again via email and I thanked her. If that's harassment than forgive me. Jenny herself admitted that Nina probably didn't know where she was going with this tat. Please be careful before coming here. They don't have customer service. They were extremely rude for no reason. I made an appointment to Rob, a tattoo artist there. I showed him a photo of what I wanted and asked for the price. He said $400 dollars. When I got there, Rob did my tattoo. When I went to pay at the front desk, he changed it to $450. So I had became confused why he changed his word. He had changed the price without telling me. He said it was because of the size. I would understand that if he had told me beforehand. Not later, when it was already done. When Rob said he changed the price, I told him but I'm coming to get another tattoo done and my daughter, too. All of sudden, he started to shout "do you think my work is worthless?" And repeated it so many times. I don't know if he was seeking validation or what. I didn't say anything about his work. He had done previous tattoos for me. I liked his work. He then shouted, "you know what, pay $400." He then screamed for me to get out. It was awful the way he screamed at me when I wasn't yelling or arguing. He got angry so out of sudden. I was so confused. He had then left. I asked the lady at front desk why happened for him to treat me like that. She said "what? Aren't you gonna tip him" . She was completely rude. I then paid 400 and tipped him the 50 he wanted. At the end, I paid for the amount he wanted, because I wasn't that person. I had saw to see the tattoo earlier at the place but I was in so much pain that didn't take a good look at the details. I then took a good look at the tattoo after all of this. He didn't do the face right. Now I know why he feels that his work was worthless. He knows he didn't do a good job. Neither Rob nor the lady at the front desk had good customer service. He seemed to be angry beforehand and took it out on me. I really didn't do anything at him. I think he shouldn't do tattoos on people when he's not in control of his emotions. Tattoos are permanent. read more

I drove over an hour away straight from work to see Lucy for my septum and my helix piercing. When I first walked in the door, I was greeted warmly and the customer service was excellent and so welcoming! Immediately, I felt a sense of ease and was promptly assisted by the person at the desk. I was pierced by Lucy and she was utterly AMAZING!!! (and I had to type it in all caps because that's an understatement itself!) I got a septum and a helix and she was super sweet, the utmost professional and explained everything in detail step by step, made sure I was comfortable the entire process, and explained the aftercare thoroughly as well. I literally wish I had gotten all my piercings by her, and she made it the most comfortable and most pleasant piercing experience I have EVER had! I had the pleasure of working with Nina on my upper arm piece. I asked for a general idea and then let her do her job. She's an artist - I'm inking my body and need to trust and respect what she's able to do. If she suggested something I didn't like - she would respect. But, part of choosing her lied in the fact that she has a wonderful vision and saw how this piece was to be integrated, long term, with others. I will gladly post a photo when it's fully healed. I will say, compared to my other pieces, it's healed better and faster and I'm thrilled with that. DO NOT GO HERE. DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR FAILURES. Or at least do not use Cody. Went in with my Wife to get an incredibly simple tattoo - 4 small dots on my finger and the same on her neck. Took about 2 minutes for each of us to be done. We have had many tattoos over the years and never had issues. Within a week it was clear that the tattoos were fading fast. Both hers and mine looked like they were 20 years old and done in a prison. No problem clearly something went wrong and we'll call and get them fixed. Nope. When I called all of a sudden the story was that we were instructed that hand tattoos often fail (was never told that) and that she must have scratched hers many times. Um ya...sure..both our tattoos have the same exact issues but hers looks like that because she must have been scratching it and mine because hand tattoos often fail? The right answer would have been "we stand behind our work please come in and we'll have a look and make it right". Nope, instead they said we would have to pay again to have them fixed and to call back later to make an appointment. Ya sure. NEVER GOING BACK. read more

This is a great location, right on King Street above the Downtown Saloon that has wonderful, friendly, talented artists. Not only can you come get a tattoo or piercing, this location also carries a selection of motorcycle gear and apparel, including helmets, vests, jackets, and chaps. I've been a customer at the Body Gallery in Sterling and have continued to bring my business to one of the best tattoo shops in Northern Virginia. I had a great time talking to one artist and had a "small world," chat with her while Jenni worked on my tattoo. This shop is clean and has a very comfortable atmosphere. My husband and I looked around for awhile before we found The Body Gallery on Yelp. We looked online and decided that we really like Anthony's work and luckily he was able to get us in the next week. We get to the shop and are impressed by how clean and laid back the atmosphere is. Took a look at some of the artist online and decided I wanted to work with Nina. I walk into the shop and was greeted at the front desk. First thing I said was I'm interested in getting a tattoo done by Nina. Nina was sitting on the side of the front next with no clients and totally ignore me when I said that. Instead the receptionist led me to someone else. Never led me to Nina. Never allowed me to speak with her. Nina totally ignores me. I was very offended by that. Rob was very helpful and took the time to listen to all question but in the end I felt that was rude that Nina didn't take the time to assist. The day before I visited sterling location and I got the same vibe. Not helpful and annoyed by question. When a person is getting permanent work done they should be more understanding. read more

Okay so I got three piercings done here by the guy piercer. His name was Mike. He assured me that the way he pierced was all prim and proper. Came back to CO where I live from visiting the loudoun county area to see family and went to my regular piercer out here to have her check all my piercings. I had to take TWO of the THREE piercings I got by Mike out because they were pierced horribly wrong. First off, my tongue ring was pierced at the wrong angle, thus causing a horrible crater in my tongue so I had to take that out and wait for it to heal to be able to repierce it. Then I had to take my nostril piercing out because although I am so fair-skinned and not genetically prone to keloids, I ended up getting one because the jewelry they are using at the body gallery is cheap and caused me to have an allergic reaction which caused a horrific bump at the piercing site. Lastly, a few years back I got my nipples done at this same shop by another male piercer and come to find that when I asked my piercer out here in CO if I can get mine redone, she said, oh yea, those were also pierced incorrectly. They pierced my AREOLAS not my NIPPLES. Hence giving the appearance of them looking like they were pierced super shallow. Do NOT go here if you want to have a piercing done correctly. Do your research and don't just go to the closest shop to you, like I did. read more
