Can't forget to mention that their shop is filled with the "Curiosities" portion which will entertain you for hours. I spot new trinkets and oddities every time I'm there. If I had to use one word to describe operations it would be "CLEAN". Their sanitation protocols are beyond medical standards and the term "professionalism" would be an understatement. Even as a seasoned piercing client, they're all still diligent in ensuring I'm updated and informed on aftercare practices as well. Advanced piercings, helix, lobe, and nipples, a wrist tattoo, and spine piece later, I'll always chose Time Bomb as my body mod providers. Services: Ear piercing, Color ink tattoos, Tattoo aftercare, Piercings, Tattoo design, Female tattoos, Tattoos Requested style: Custom, easy to heal, low maintenance, and consultation in placement were all part of the process in piercing and tattoo decisions. Their team of professionals were able to answer all my questions and give sound advice in how I'd experience and heal from the new pieces. Cleanliness: I've walked into doctor's offices less clean than Time Bomb's shop. They take cleanliness and sanitation to a new level and it helps make the experience feel safe and cared for Artists: My piercers were Alden, Jasper, Christie, Captain, and Pari, tattoo artists are John and Captain. I'd recommend all of them, although Pari was supernaturally fast with her piercing experience (3 helix's). No joke, it took under 5 minutes to place, prep, pierce, and clean up. The piercings themselves took maybe a minute and a half. Both Pari and Christie made the piercings hurt less than expected and have such a skilful and delicate touch that they're experts in their industry.

I personally go to Matt Torres @tengutorres on Instagram. My opinion, which is why you're here anyways, is that Matt is the best Japanese artist in the DMV. Out of all the artists I've been too, he cares the most about his customers. If you don't want a big traditional Japanese tattoo, maybe stop reading and go to another very talented artist in the shop (literally anyone, even their apprentice kicks ass) but if you do want something like this, Matt is it man. You get a zoom meeting to plan, you work together, he plans it out, he shows up early every time, he's ready. He studies his work, he studies the Japanese tattooing style, he reads up. I couldn't have been more pleased with the shop, my experience and Charli. Upon entering, Jess greeted me and made me feel welcome. After waiting a few minutes, Charli came out to say hello, talk about my tattoo and gave me her opinion of what to do. She drew the stencil, placed it where we discussed and did her thing. It ended up being beautiful, beyond what I had imagined. She's so incredibly talented and her work is just fabulous. The tattoo that I requested was very simple and small, and they could not have executed this more perfectly. Furthermore, this was my first tattoo, and they put my newbie nerves at ease immediately. Pros: Price: The tattoo that I received cost $160 (pre tip). They ask for a deposit of 50% in advance, and then have you pay the rest onsite. I believe that $160 is the minimum price for any tattoo here. Tripp provided me with a quote in advance, per my request, and was very prompt and direct about the pricing as soon as I provided him with an example of what I wanted, which I really appreciated. I initially felt like this price was a bit high, however I called several highly rated tattoo parlors in the area, and this was the lowest price for my simple tattoo. So comparatively, this place checks out, price-wise! I am glad I paid to have it done at Wasteland, as the experience was incredible. Accuracy: The tattoo was executed exactly as I requested-- I couldn't have asked for it to be any more accurate, honestly. It was simple, but I think with simple designs, any flaws are even more visible, in a way? So I was very pleased with how it came out. Friendliness: I had a very pleasant experience here. Banter throughout the tattooing process, I felt like my artist and I were just friends hanging out. There were upbeat R&B oldies playing, which put me right at ease. Simplicity of booking: Booking this appointment was so easy. I figure that this is partly due to the simplicity of my design, however I was still surprised how quickly they got me in. I was able to secure an appointment within a week of reaching out. When I showed up, they were ready for me, and the entire experience felt very streamlined and efficient. Clean studio: The studio was clean, modern, spacey, and private. The bright colors and upbeat music put me at ease immediately. Masks were worn throughout the process. Instructions on treatment/self care of tattoo: My artist provided me with detailed instructions as to how to care for my tattoo. I asked a lot of beginner, kinda silly questions, but never felt belittled, and felt like I was being taken seriously and really cared for just in the way that my questions were addressed. The care process was honestly very easy, and within a couple of days, I felt that it was pretty much healed up! A super easy and fun process :) Cons: Truly ZERO from me! I am so pleased with my tattoo and impressed with the overall experience offered at Wasteland tattoos. I am recommending to all of my friends in the DC area! Go here! That's why I keep going back (we're 10+ tattoos in at this point just with Key City!). Cleanly, friendly, and creative. I often have emailed the owner, Gary, a totally random concept to design. He has knocked it out of the park every time. As an art lover, I am just astounded by the level of creativity in this shop. I am often stopped on the street to ask where I got my tattoos done, and I always tell them Key City is worth the drive no matter where you are in the DMV. I have had two memorial ashes tattoos completed here, and I have been impressed with the professionalism, empathy, and dedication to making these special pieces of art. Their tattooing skill is top notch. Many of my oldest tattoos still look like they were done in the past year. Their aftercare instructions have always been clear and easy to follow. Bottom line.
