This was our first time in this bookstore and we were so excited. My husband, myself and our 2 boys went off to our different sections. We were the only ones in there and then two others joined us. I would NEVER suggest this but what I thought was random became really uncomfortable as a worker seemed to follow us in each room. My son was in one room, my little one in the kids section with me and my husband looking around. She just kept popping in and not asking if we needed help but just watching us. I didn't have a purse or a bag with me. I am darker and my husband and kids are lighter. I was going to brush it off when my little one went to pay for us books and then sat in the front room in the couch. It was just us and here she came again but sat down her laptop across from us. Now I am a mix of annoyed and pissed off. Would you like for us to spend money there or make us so uncomfortable we leave? My oldest picked up on it and asked what the deal was. I finally said out loud to my husband "why does she keep following us in every room?" I didn't want to make a scene so we went across the street and enjoyed some yummy goodies. This is my favorite hidden gem in all of Chattanooga! I've followed the Book and Cover ever since they were just a reading blog on Instagram posting about books, so I was so excited when they decided to open a brick and mortar shop! What made it even better was that they decided to make it a hybrid coffee shop as well! Every time I go here, I swear I'm just going to look and not buy another book to add to my growing pile at home. But just like always, on my most recent trip I went home with yet another book in tow as well as a delicious vanilla oatmilk latte! They have such a great selection of popular books as well as more obscure options, so it's hard to go home without buying anything! One thing Chattanooga is severely lacking in is indie bookshops, and that's why I'm so glad we have the book and cover! I highly recommend any book and coffee lover check this spot out! read more

IMO, this is the best bookstore in Chattanooga. The book selection is well thought out, and the displays and floor plan of the store flows logically. The staff is knowledgeable - they know and love books. There's a small coffee and pastries counter, a small outdoor patio (weather permitting), cozy nooks inside the store and an indoor porch where one can relax and read comfortably. They have author signing events and book clubs - they are engaged with the community. Please support them, and all independent bookstores in general. With the internet, Amazon and the big chain stores we are in danger of losing the real booksellers, and the literary culture they encourage. Patricia P. read more

Always on a search for a great bookstore. Found this one on a weekend getaway to Chattanooga Tucked away on a side street but easy to find. GET YOURSELF HERE. You will sense it immediately----these are people passionate about books. The store is lovingly thought out----different rooms, different genres. LOVED the posted recommendations by the owners throughout the store. Many comfortable seating spots to read and relax. They have a lovely selection of cookies, pastries coffees and teas. It's SO important to support independent booksellers, so I hope this one will become a Chattanooga fixture. Lovely place to spend an afternoon. read more

You can never have too many local book shops and I'm happy to say that Chattanooga has one within a stones throw to me. As soon as you walk through the pink door of The Book & Cover, you can tell this place is a cute spot for sipping coffee with friends or browsing the shelves for a new book (or two!). There's so many genres available from cooking to YA to fiction to history and they have the most adorable kids section. I especially love the handwritten reviews that are sprinkled throughout the shelves. Coffee and pastries are available and local author, Leslie Jordan, stopped by for an appearance a few weeks ago.
