Ventured in with my daughter during a rainy day and had a lovely time combing through books. We went through a few different sections: religion, antique, history, cookbooks, juvenile and children's. There was a lot to see! Enjoyed the children's section and my daughter read quite a few books on the little stools available. We're excited to visit again when we're in town. I love supporting small businesses so it pains me to write a negative review. I was shopping in Port St. Lucie for the day when I stumbled upon The Book Exchange. It is very uninviting from the outside because you can't see inside the windows. I almost skipped going in but after looking at some photos online I was curious and decided to check it out anyway despite my negative first impression. The aisles are filled floor to ceiling with books arranged by categories. After looking around for a few minutes I wanted to ask about prices so I went to the counter where an older lady with bleached blond hair was working. I inquired about how much the books cost but she gave a vague answer that they are different prices. I tried to dig deeper to find out how I would know what they cost. Where they marked or did I just have to bring up the book I was interested in to find out? Before I finished she cut me off with a rude "I don't have time to price all of these books!" I felt like I was asking a fairly simple question but she made it clear that I was irritating her so I left. My encounter here was very strange because typically everyone I meet in Port St. Lucie are delightful. It was one of the reasons I came her to shop on my day off. I was hoping to grab a few books but I know a lot of other friendlier and more welcoming places to spend my money. read more

While visiting Port St. Lucie I sought recommendations of local bookstores. Someone on Reddit suggested Book Exchange because it's near the vinyl record store Sounds Good Music and the collectibles toy store Lily's and Johnny Collectibles, making that area worth a 10-minute detour off Interstate 95. This bookstore is pretty typical of smaller stores but has a nice selection of science fiction and fantasy including some old British paperbacks of sword and sorcery and several Chris Bunch novels I wished later that I had bought. A lot of paperbacks showed wear on the spines, as if they'd been read and returned a few times, which is cool. The clerk was friendly. The prices were a little higher than I expected on some used books but not enough to deter me from making a purchase. read more

I don't know about you but I do not enjoy paying close to the full price of new books for some of the lowest quality used books with tears, stains, water damage. The owners of this dump feel otherwise. Want a copy of Game of Thrones with tape and no binding and a lot of scribbles from library borrowers? That'll be $12. Want a copy of Great Gatsby? $9 and one or two pages may be missing. Also, if you want to pick up a book that isn't the top book on a wall of stacks of 59 books by 11 books, then have fun playing Jenga and hope you don't crush someone or yourself. Also, have fun with the moldy carpets and dust flying everywhere since no one's been keeping up the property at all. Will definitely not be returning; this place is a gross, unsanitary joke. read more

Lady behind the desk was very nice. Books are overpriced but it had a nice ambiance. $10 for a book with water damage and multiple cracks on the spine, just because it's a trendy book ? No thanks. I did appreciate that they had newer and more trendy books up by the front so I didn't have to dig. read more

Today was my first time visiting. The woman behind the counter was extremely uninviting and rude. I introduced myself and let her know I have never been in before but I had books I'd like to "exchange" or bring in and I asked her how it worked so I could better understand their system. She proceeded to barely lift her head from the computer and state "I cannot hear youuuu". I spoke up, we were the only two people in the store with no music playing and I was speaking at an acceptable volume to begin with but I tried my best to better communicate. She did not explain how anything works and just told me to "let her take a look" at my collection. I proceeded to bring in 13 hardcover books ranging from YA to Poetry to Literary fiction - all in great condition. She said "I can take them" and that was the entire interaction. She did not proceed to invite me to look around or explain anything about the exchange process to me. She was rude and dismissive. I grew up here and this entire experience was so disappointing. I have never wrote a Yelp review before but wow, here I am after that. I would never go back here and I am sad I gave them my books in the first place. read more

They seem to have a great selection for a used book shop, but the prices are outrageous for used books. I can likely get most of these titles on the Internet for less money. When we were there, the person who was to be attending the store was on the phone the entire time. She never once asked us if we needed any help. Some help would have been great because the organization is obviously present but the signage is severely lacking. Because I had already seen the prices, I did not bother to interrupt her. WOW Just called today to get info about this store. My husband & and I both LOVE to read. We wanted to donate our books to this store and then wanted to start visiting this store for our reading needs! The Man who answered the phone was HORRIBLE. When I asked for directions to store he began to insult me that I did not know where Prima Vista was.... then began to tell me that he is not going to spend all day looking at the books I have to bring in... I told him I did not want money for them that I wanted to donate them ...he began to tell me the owner is the only one who can intake hardback books etc etc...... He was so rude I could not believe this store is still in business with customer service like this I told him that I would rather give to charity and would be sure to never step foot in this store ever I will be sure to let all that I run into or know NOT to go here unless they want to be abused by the help! read more
