Ugh. I love it so much. A small but mighty bookstore, stuffed to the gills with new and secondhand books. Walking in felt like a hug, because bookstores are cozy and safe feeling. I took my time strolling around and picking out 3 or 4 books to get to replace the ones I had brought and read on vacation and left in little libraries. One new, a few used, and I was out in under $40. They kindly put a store bookmark in every book, and the bookmarks are super hecking cute! What a delightful book shop in historic Savannah! The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and the decor leaves you wishing your bank account could support a full redecoration in mid century "Flannery O'Conner". This was our least favorite stop while perusing the bookstore options in this beautiful town. Probably a great stop if you enjoy used texts and the hunt for the perfect book. It's very crowded and reminiscent of a true book lady who isn't worried about fire codes. Come if you love to dig and get to know the other patrons who get to wiggle past you while shopping! Cute, little bookstore smacked in the middle of Savannah. Bookstore is known for having rare books. They appear to be behind the area you pay, too, in a glass case. If I were a book collector, this would definitely be my shop. However, I'm not a book collector. I go to bookstores to purchase books, and while that is possible here, the shop was so packed with books and people that maneuvering and finding something worthy of reading was tough. It is probably the only time I've ever wanted to get out of a bookstore. I felt claustrophobic in there, and then, don't get me started on the steps to enter. If you're not careful, you could fall. All this is a shame to me because I really wanted to love this store and I just did not. I wound up going to a competitor nearby and made all my bookstore purchases there. read more

Eclectic bookstore with a small selection of rare books. They have a lot of older publications and those they are slightly used. Only issue is I took a picture of a newer book I wasn't ready to pull the trigger on and a manger/owner/employee stopped and aggressively asked me why I was taking the picture. Please visit. I passed this on the way to breakfast. This is located in front of The Desoto Hotel. You do have to step down to get inside the store, and I feel that it adds such warmth to the space. This is a vintage store, so you will find yourself browsing. I love the way that this bookstore was set up. Everything was beautifully placed. I was able to purchase some poetry books; and didn't even notice their $1 bin outside on the stoop. This bookstore was very huge and had a robust selection. The employees that I encountered were amazing. They provided me with information about their spoken word days. While I don't live in Savannah, my partner does come down frequently for work. I am sure that I will be back. My daughter had questions about one specific book, and the person that she encountered was very kind to her. She had informed her that this was more of a vintage store; and had even referred us to E. Shaver bookstore, behind our hotel. I was inside for about an hour and could have stayed longer. I will be sure to visit again when in the Savannah area. read more

If you love the smell of books and spaces so crowded with books that the chairs almost seem squeezed into any random place they can fit, this place is for you! They had a wonderful collection, and just being in the space brought my inner and outer nerds so much peace. While it is semi-organized, and there are areas for one to sit to read, we did find that it was just a little bit too small for our liking, and a little hard to maneuver around due to their being so many books. The Book Lady Bookstore is one of those classic shops that is floor to ceiling books. It's like the fever dream of Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I loved the eclectic arrangement of books, the intimacy of the corridors, and the vibe of this local treasure. I'm a hardcore reader and a supporter of independent bookstores. When I saw a used bookstore in the Savannah area, it was a no-brainer. BOOKS WERE EVERYWHERE! I was in love. Some may see chaos but I saw organized chaos which made me smile (there is a difference!). Pleasing to the eye, but a bit hard to maneuver through, I made it through the entire store regardless. Multiple rooms, vintage chairs, fireplace, creaky floorboards, and recycled books. Did I say I was in love? During my visit, a local author came in and signed all of his books. AWESOME! The woman seated at the checkout was reading...not on her phone, which I highly admired...and she engaged with me in conversation and even read a passage from an old book that had just been added to the shop's collection...a passage about bookstores. Pretty neat book store to visit and browse the racks. They have a combination of new and used books. This isn't the kind of place you come to if you are looking for a particular book but more a store you come to to see what you can find. The book store itself is small and not easy to navigate. They certainly have made the most out of the small place. I wouldn't come here if you are claustrophobic and it certainly isn't wheel chair or stroller accessible. Also you have to step down into the store to get inside. I was thankful for the person who told me that before I went in, otherwise I probably would have fallen flat on my face. All that being said, the books were very well organized and staff were accommodating and offered assistance looking for books of interest. My sister got a book for her grandson written by a local author and her husband got a nice coffee table book about the Savannah squares. Worth a visit if you are a bibliophile. read more

There did seem to be a huge selection of books, just nothing I was really perusing for. The only reason for four stars instead of 5 is for the service. A man had come in and the guy working just seemed to be a bit rude towards him. Granted, the customer was an old man and was just trying to banter a bit, but he was just kind of dismissing him. I work in the service industry, and that's just a turn off for me, even though it wasn't me. Definitely check it out for yourself. The Book Lady Bookstore had such good ratings on Yelp that I came here on my trip to Savannah hoping to find a few gems. When we walked in the staff member at the front desk stared at us and didn't greet us. This wasn't necessarily rude but just a bit strange. I immediately noticed the shelves were absolutely crammed with books. I got a claustrophobic feeling as I was trying to look at books in the back and I had to squeeze past other people. There was kind of a faint musky smell that was off putting. I tried looking a bit but was just kind of turned off. I'm sure if you're willing to sort through the stacks I'm sure you can find some great things. My thoughts were, why try when E. Shaver is down the street? I love book stores, there are far too few and the ones that exist are always so unique. The Book Lady is not exception- it feels below the ground, as though you've entered a secret cave of books. I've been multiple times, and both my girlfriend and I picked up on his hostile and rude attitude.
