They used to be tucked away in the back of E Shaver bookstore, but now they've moved to a cozy, narrow studio space next door. While the new location is small, it adds to the charm--though it does mean there's no indoor seating. You can enjoy your tea at one of the two outdoor tables, or simply take it to go. The shop is run by two lovely ladies who are not only incredibly knowledgeable about tea but also entertaining and friendly. Great tea shop with a wide variety of teas available to go. While their loose leaf selection for purchase is more limited and seems to vary compared to some other tea houses, we still found three teas we were excited to try. It's a cozy little space filled with everything tea. Their tea cups are all high quality bone china and real gold edging. Anastasia is very knowledgeable and helpful if you're new to tea. My daughter and I stopped in for a cup late afternoon while vacationing in Savannah (in the fall). There are counter seats, but it's not a sit down and linger at your table tea room. It is a wonderful place to spend time and learn about tea (brew time for green teas is about two minutes or it gets bitter). We talked to one of the co-owners who started working at the shop while in school. They are one of the blenders, creating tea room blends like Claire's tea (part of an outlander inspired series -- its lovely). (And while I love lapsang souchong, the Riley's Russian Blend has enough smokiness to enjoy without being overwhelming.) I came to appreciate and enjoy the delicacy of green teas much more than before thanks to her explanations and introduction to several varieties including dragon lung well ching. I stopped in for a Christmas present for my boss, just like me she's also a tea lover. It was a little difficult finding the shop at first. It's a quaint little store next to Madison Square. Once I found the shop and entered I was immediately greeted. The shop feels very welcoming. The shop isn't huge which adds to the quaintness. I was a little overwhelmed with all the teas but the ladies helped steer me in the right direction. I settled on the savannah gift box which cake with 4 one ounce teas, rock sugar, and a tea infuser. The place is located inside the E Shaver Bookstore- they share the same entrance. Turn right when you enter. A cute little tea store with a small room in the back for seating. They have all kinds of tea to choose from. My favorite is the crème brulee, it smells and tastes wonderful. I have also tried the Daisy Chocolate, which is basically a Girl Scout thin mint cookie in the form of tea. They always have some samples around the counter. The girl working was really nice and it was her first day there. There is a small room in the back to but I am sure it's barely empty. If you love tea, you need to check this place out. read more

This place is awesome. Its a small tea shop inside a book store, (i believe they are moving soon so this may not be the case for long), but it's such a great location. Hands down, the best tea I've had! The lady was so helpful, she took time to find out what I want it and educated me on how to brew properly the tea I got. There were so many tea options. My selection was the Ginger Green Rooibos sweetened with ginger syrup, I had it cold and it was super refreshing. The Tea Room is a REQUIRED stop whenever I visit Savannah. I've been "stopping by" 12+ years, ever since my mom turned me onto their Emperor's Bride blend. Not only do they have the best quality tea I've ever tasted, the owner is extremely knowledgeable and can provide you with specific brewing tips that will change your experience with tea forever. As I write this, I'm enjoying a cup of their Holy Grail blend for my cold and sore throat. This blend not only smells great, it makes me feel better somehow. My favorites change depending on the season but lately I'm loving Holy Grail, White Tip Earl Grey (the BEST Earl Grey ever) and Claire's Sassenach Tea. In the summer, my favorites are Coconut Pouchong (room temp) and Tea for Ruby (chilled). If The Tea Room were ever to close their doors, I would die. read more

My "star level" isn't entirely accurate; if I were able to split stars, I would give this place maybe 3.25 stars, I think. Here's the thing: The place looks adorable from outside, but it's inaccessible to people who use wheelchairs (both the tea seller and the bookseller with/in which it's housed. That said, my able-bodied sister-in-law picked me up a couple of blends: Tessa's Almond Cookie (green tea base with almonds and coconut) and decaf Peppermint Twist (black tea base with french vanilla and peppermint). I'm a local and this is one of my favorite places in the historic district to spend a quiet afternoon. The Tea Room was on Broughton for years, but recently moved into E. Shaver's Bookstore on Madison Square. Though they don't serve sandwiches anymore, I personally LOVE the location change, away from the bustle of Broughton Street. Madison square is quiet and shady, and now that they're sharing space with a bookstore, you can enjoy new books and fresh tea together - what could be better? They still carry dozens of varieties of premium quality teas that are available to drink in house or take home by the ounce. You can order any tea hot or iced, and I like to let Becky (the owner) choose what I should drink that day. :) Overall I'm delighted that they've reopened in this perfect location! read more

What a quaint and tasty spot for lunch or tea. Beautiful old apothecary building turned tea room with tasteful decor that resembles a little English Tea room. I am a local who used to visit the tea room when it was on Broughton Street For mini mini years we had always enjoyed it and was happily surprised that they move to E shavers bookstore.I stopped in today to get some tea and the owner started chastising my daughter and saying she was going to go outside and bop my child who is waiting patiently Out the window with our dog. I look over and her cat is sitting in the window observing my daughter and the dog the dog is not jumping on the window nor is my child doing anything but admiring the cat. I looked at the woman in disbelief and told her that that was my child outside the window and that she was doing nothing but looking at the cat she made up some excuse about other people's dogs tormenting her cat through the window. When I politely explained to her that that was my daughter and that we had cats at home and she would never do anything to torment an animal she totally ignored me and said that others have done that to her animal before. I looked at her and shock and disbelief put my tea down and walked out. Not only was she insulting to my daughter and I she never even apologized. Stopped in last weekend for some loose tea to bring back home and they have so many flavors that a person could be easily overwhelmed... but don't be!! Just ask for help or go with the best sellers and you'll be happy. I left with four different blends including The Emperor's Bride (highly recommended by friends) and as good as it is I have to say that my favorite of the four was the Creme Brulee. Although, the tea was good, the girl working there was one of the most obnoxious and condescending employees I have come across...ever. My friend and I were so shocked by her rude commentary on our request to put an oolong over ice (apparently, a horrific crime to this girl) that we were at a loss for words. I was the manager of a tea shop for 3 years- which this pretentious worker obviously did not know- and my friend was ordering it this way for something light and refreshing. I've seen oolong ordered in my own tea shop over ice many times before. Word of advice- maybe just shut up and do what your customer asks and if you have a suggestion that might be better or beneficial to said customer- don't say it in a way where you sound like a complete jerk or a cut above. The older lady, who I assume was the owner or a higher up, was right next to her when she said this and turned a blind eye. CUSTOMER SERVICE MATTERS. I truly hope you clean out the trash because the tea is pretty good. Seriously, never so offended before in my life... And it was totally unnecessary. read more
