He helped me both with my business taxes and personal taxes, and WOW was I impressed with his knowledge. His expertise was such a relief to be able to lean on this year. Ron also has a unique since of humor, which may not be for everyone, but it made paying taxes oddly relaxing for me (and dare I say, even enjoyable). Would strongly recommend Ron for both business and personal tax needs!

Proceed with Caution: My Experience with Ron Mussett…read more I initially worked with Ron to set up my LLC taxed as an S-corp. He was helpful during the initial process, but unfortunately, the execution was flawed. He made repeated administrative errors, such as filing paperwork incorrectly, missing deadlines, and even misspelling my name and my company's name multiple times. While I initially overlooked these mistakes, things only worsened over time. One of my biggest concerns was Ron's reluctance to answer questions beyond quarterly payroll tax filings. I often felt like an annoyance rather than a valued client. More critically, he failed to inform me that I wasn't making estimated personal income tax payments, which led to a substantial tax bill for 2024--complete with penalties. Based on my experience with him, I expect he would say this wasn't his responsibility, but better communication could have prevented the issue. Additionally, his tax planning knowledge was not the right fit. For instance, he was unfamiliar with Solo 401(k) plans and only recommended SEP IRAs, which didn't align with my financial strategy. He also would push back against strategies like structuring payroll for my spouse, paying her the max required for a 401(k) contribution, and "netting out." Beyond these shortcomings, his overall responsiveness was mediocre to poor--not just during tax season but consistently throughout the year. He was only reachable via email and rarely by phone, making it difficult to get timely responses. To be fair, Ron is very affordable compared to other CPAs. At the time, I was paying a fraction of what I pay now. However, I've come to realize that paying three times as much for my new CPA is well worth it--because at least now, I don't have IRS penalties, unexpected tax bills, or unanswered questions. My new CPA is available via phone and Zoom, open to one-on-one consultations, and takes the time to ensure I understand my tax strategy. If you're looking for a CPA who provides proactive guidance, strategic tax planning, and clear explanations, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Just as we expect doctors to have bedside manner, I believe a CPA should show a level of respect and care for their clients. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I often felt disregarded, and the lack of communication left me with IRS penalty letters, an unexpected tax bill, and a new CPA who is now cleaning up the mess. Ultimately, I take responsibility for not holding Ron accountable sooner. However, if you choose to work with him, be prepared to take a very hands-on approach and ensure you fully understand what he is offering. I've since found a CPA who is a much better fit--someone who takes the time to explain tax-saving strategies, aligns with my long-term financial goals, and ensures I won't be blindsided by another massive tax bill in 2025.

While she was pleasant…read moreat the beginning, her attitude quickly shifted and she became consistently rude and difficult to communicate with. One of the biggest issues was her lack of accountability. There were multiple mistakes made by her team, yet she never took ownership or responsibility for them. Instead of acknowledging the errors or offering any kind of apology, she was dismissive and unhelpful. This left me in a tough position, especially when transitioning to a new accountant who had to spend significant time correcting numerous errors. It's frustrating because I've since seen other reviews describing a similar pattern--friendly at first, then becoming rude and unprofessional--which was exactly my experience as well. I would not recommend her services based on my experiences.

Unfortunately, she did not batch payments to each invoice as required. Instead, she made journal entries because she said "that is how we clear the deposits we cannot match to the bank statement". Of course they can be matched. That is not the correct method for keeping books for a small business. This approach may have saved her a lot of time, but it has caused significant issues for us. We had to undo all the deposits for the last 3 months, redo them, and match payments properly to ensure the records are accurate. This may be something that large corporations do but a small business must have accurate customer records. My last 2 bookkeepers (over a 25-year period) matched each payment with each individual invoice, correctly. I didn't want to leave this review, but Mary has refused to reimburse me for what I paid her for March books even though I am having to undue and redo all the deposits since the beginning of January when she began keeping my books. I have worked an extra 15-20 hours a week for a month to fix the books from Jan to now. I never would have hired Mary had I known she would think this was an okay practice. BEWARE!!! This experience has been frustrating and time-consuming. Proper bookkeeping is essential for maintaining accurate financial records, and shortcuts like these can lead to more work and potential errors down the line. I would not recommend this bookkeeper for anyone looking for thorough and precise bookkeeping services. I am tired and can never get this time back with my family. .

In the meantime, I want to prevent others from going through the nonsense i did. Stay far away. This group, Jay Haney in particular, is dishonest and has no professionalism. Before i filed a complaint, i offered a solution. I asked Jay Haney, the owner, to give me honest answers about what exactly happened with my books. I believe in human kindness and benefit of the doubt but after neglecting to adhere to a contractual obligation to my business and refusing to respond to a simple question about my account, I'm going in full force to see that this company is investigated. The biggest frustration i had with this business is communication and dishonesty. We all make mistakes but don't ignore 24 attempts to contact you! Please do not trust this business and stay far away. If you need additional back up, their listing will be up with the BBB soon. Feel free to contact me if you want more info. But please, seek services from another business. If you do not believe me, do some searches on the business and the owner. I hate writing bad yelp reviews for any other small business owner but because of the damage to my company books as well as the all around dishonesty, i will not be quiet about how bad this business is. I also gave jay more than 3 chances to solve this amicably. UPDATE: 10/30 I hired another bookkeeper to clean up the mess this place made. Her feedback was the same as mine. How are they in business? They did NOTHING behind the scenes. Stay FAR AWAY. also, they still haven't responded to the BBB! Tells a LOT! These people are dishonest and do not follow standard bookkeeping practices. I had to redo my books for 1.5 years. They will be out of business soon.

Long story short, when tax time came around, I had to hire a CPA to re-do ALL of the bookkeeping. I had paid Lonestar about $1500 to do services that they never delivered on. Unfortunately, it took me about a year to realize I was being scammed, and despite my multiple requests for refunds, they have not done so. If you would like to read more about the issues I encountered, you may continue reading: - Lonestar did not include my primary checking account in the bookkeeping services, despite knowing about the account. - Lonestar had incredibly poor communication, the bookkeeper failing to return my calls, emails, and it taking months to get set up with a simple phone call or meeting. - Lonestar promised monthly P&L statements, and only delivered this ONCE after my direct request. - I made the mistake of recommending Lonestar to another organization early on, and Lonestar also failed to deliver to this organization. - Lonestar did not incorporate any letter of engagement. Again, as a new business owner, I did not know this is something a bookkeeper/CPA should have. Basically, there was no contract or anything in writing that holds the organization accountable. - Lonestar recommended S-Corp status to me, then never filed the appropriate documents, and led me to believe that I could pay myself a "salary" by simply arranging an owners draw (now I know these are actually quite different things). This led me to lose a significant amount of money in taxes at the end of the year. I could go on. This organization scammed me out of over a thousand dollars, and I'm sure they are doing this to others on the daily. I'm very disappointed, as Brendon Wells, my primary contact, appeared to be a trustworthy and helpful guy. NOT recommended. DO NOT HIRE.
