Love the vibe & the interior design here. I have had some great meals - like this salad. However, my husband has had an awful burger here & then a year later (a week ago) I brought my mother.. and she got another awful burger.. couldn't eat half of it.. so please get better meat / a better grill master, so that I can keep recommending this place

4.5 stars! Stylish Setting, Thoughtful Service, and Refreshingly Creative Drinks We recently visited Black Sheep Social Club and were warmly welcomed into a space that strikes a beautiful balance between industrial-chic and cozy sophistication. From the moment we stepped inside, the ambiance was inviting--modern yet grounded, with just the right touch of edge. We arrived around 4pm and caught the tail end of the lunch menu. I ordered the crab cakes paired with a non-alcoholic Key Lime Mule mocktail, while my husband went for the blueberry goat cheese burger with fries and a non-alcoholic margarita mocktail. Both mocktails were surprisingly delightful--crisp, flavorful, and thoughtfully crafted. As someone who appreciates a good spirit-free option, this was a standout feature and definitely earned extra points in my book. The service was exceptional--genuinely friendly and impressively knowledgeable. It's clear the staff takes pride in what they do, which added so much to the overall experience. The crab cake appetizer was satisfyingly filling, though the cakes themselves could've used a bit more seasoning to shine on their own. That said, the deviled egg relish they sat atop was flavorful and clever--and I may or may not have borrowed a few minced jalapeños from my husband's plate to kick things up a notch. His burger was creative and well-executed--he thoroughly enjoyed it--but the fries were lukewarm, which slightly dulled the dish's potential. The drink menu, however, was excellent--from mocktails to their signature cocktails and curated wine and spirit list, it's evident they put care into their beverage offerings. It makes me curious (and excited) to return for dinner and explore more of what the kitchen has to offer. I'm holding out hopeful anticipation that the evening menu delivers that extra wow factor. All in all, Black Sheep Social Club is a refreshing presence in Iowa's dining scene. While I personally long for a bit more culinary innovation in the area, this spot is certainly a step in the right direction. We look forward to coming back. Thanks for a genuinely enjoyable experience.

Absolutely Beautiful repurposing of an early 20th Century building. Friendly greeting by the hostess and quick seating for a Saturday lunch with family. There's lots on the bar menu with many craft beers, some in house brews, many from other microbreweries. We had Bloody Mary's, served with a pickle, olive, and a tasty (!) slice of bacon. Appetizing menu and the food delivered on expectations. Servings are generous and tasty. We began with Duck Fries appetizer. There were 4 of us, and we had leftover--it is sizable. We had three different sandwiches (all big, ask for a box and cut in 1/2 first thing) and all were served with a big side dish. No need for fries after the appetizer. There a tasty dessert menu. Leave room for a treat. Looking forward to another delicious meal there.

I want to like Black Sheep more than I do, but I just think it falls short of the quality it attempts to deliver. It's a gorgeous building and despite being downtown, the parking isn't terrible. Unfortunately, I don't think the food or service are very good. Things tend to come out overcooked and dry and I think the menu tries a little too hard for my liking, but that can be a preference issue. It's a decent spot to meet my work clients or occasionally catch some music, but I don't seek it out.

    "Plain" chicken wings

Stopped by this place on our Iowa road trip, based on Yelp reviews. Hubby and I don't drink so the bars were not considered. The reviews did not disappoint! Place was nicely situated with free parking. Ambiance inside was nice with a bit of history sprinkled in - notice the brick walls/pavers. Ordered their chicken wings plain with a side of ranch and we both agreed it's one of the best chicken wings we've had! It was crunchy on the outside and juicy and flavorful inside - nothing plain about it. We also ordered the blueberry burger (we were curious) and were pleasantly surprised! The added touch of the blueberry made a difference. The regular burger was okay but would highly recommend you try out the blueberry burger. All in all, this is a gem at Cedar Rapids!

    Duck Fat Fries...so good!

The amazing reviews are spot on! The food creativity and quality will delight the foodies. The large tap and bar selection will delight the thirsty. The metro atmosphere will delight both the casual and the dressed-up. DUCK FAT FRIES I always love fries made in duck fat. These are also covered in melted cheese, bacon and chopped green onion, served with a nice chicory aoli. Beware, they are HUGE, easily feeding 3-4 people. You cannot upgrade you burger fries. I was alone and ordered them anyway and over half went to waste, but I reveled it the enjoyment of the treat!!! SMOKED BLUEBERRY BURGER I usually add a spicy blueberry jam to my burgers that I make at home, so this caught my attention. 1/2-pound Black Angus patty. smoked blueberry compote. whipped herb goat cheese. jalapeño relish. brioche bun. OMG. I would order this everytime I visited. Quality meat and bun to boot! NOTE: Jalapeno relish comes in the side so I loaded it in first few bites. It makes the burger in my opinion so don't forget to spread some on your burger, gauging quantity per your personal taste for heat. ATMOSPHERE You are in a hip, industrial building that is super clean and decorated with style. I love that you can feel comfortable here in a suit and tie or in jeans and t-shirt. ATTACHED BREWERY There is a brewery, called Clock House Brewing that you can access from inside Black Sheep, and there is even a window into the brewing area. However I was surprised to learn they are separate businesses. I wonder if they once had same owner. A few of thier beers were on tap at Black Sheep but thier full selection was only available next door.

The hospital grade stuffed animal they gave my newborn

I'd just like to say this place has a special spot in my heart after what they did for me today, my ole lady had our baby today and she was craving black sheep (it is one of our go to spots for dates) we called to order they asked how the day was which was amazing I answered saying we just had a baby so fantastic, they congratulated me also when I showed up card out to pay the boss lady of some kind walked up said they gave us a stuffed animal black sheep that's hospital grade so it is 100% safe for our newborn to snuggle, I had so much gratitude for a small gesture and when I pulled my card out to pay she said "absolutely not your lunch is on us today congratulations on the new baby" and this really showed their true colors we are extremely grateful for the amazing lunch they so generously offered to pay for simply because we had a newborn and they wanted to show some kindness I felt I should share the positivity and kindness this business showed a young man and his family thank you guys so much I pray for many many long years of success and we will most definitely be back!

Came here from Seattle on a business trip and just loved it. The ambiance, friendly service. I had the ribeye and was just delicious, tender and cooked perfectly. Had the chicken wings with dry rub and the fried fish bites great job team

This is a high class historical building. Great food and beers! Happy hour prices are fantastic. Don't miss it.

Black Sheep has a great atmosphere and seems to be able to cater to all groups. We ate here before a show at the Amphitheater, and there were after-work crowds and families. I had the Smoked Blueberry Burger which probably had the prettiest presentation of a burger. My boyfriend had wings and the Crab Rangoon dip. All very tasty. The menu isn't huge but does have a decent selection. They also have a nice happy hour special great for an earlier dinner.

The announcer was intoxicated: A rule of thumb for karaoke hosts is to always be aware and able to run karaoke to the best of their ability. After several drinks, the KJ was noticeably under the influence and being rude while interrupting karaoke singers. He may have thought he was being funny, but it came across to me as rude and unappreciative of the singers. 2. The announcer would interrupt songs with commentary: The KJ would frequently interrupt the singers (on his mic) with commentary and jokes. I found this extremely disrespectful to the singers. It was distracting to the singers, the audience, and made me feel uncomfortable. 3. The announcer was rude to me directly: During one song, he started laughing and made a comment of "well if you were to do it right". I know he somehow meant it as a joke, but I was embarrassed and that was completely uncalled for. At the end of the night, he restated he appreciated me coming out and hopes that I'd return, but as a KJ myself, there are things you just don't do when running karaoke. Being sober and able to make good judgments, respecting people when it's their time to shine, and being courteous to those around you are essential. This will be my first and last time visiting the Red Lion Lounge.
