I actually didn't end up getting my hair done here, because when I showed up for my appointment today, there were various circumstances outside of the stylists control that made me unable to get what I wanted done with my hair. Therefore, this isnt a review about their actual services, per se. However, my stylist (Billie Jean) was sincerely apologetic, because she knew I was hoping to get my hair done before Sunday (today is Tuesday), and even contacted a hair stylist friend of hers at a different salon and was able to get me an appointment with her before Sunday, despite the super short notice and time frame. The fact that she did her best to help me out given the situation and went out of her way to do so when she didn't have to at all means the world to me - basically, the main point I'm trying to make here is that the staff is incredibly kind and helpful, and from my short time there, definitely seem to know their stuff. Finding a good hairdresser can be difficult....but not when you go to the brass ring! This is seriously an amazing place that locals have been going to for years, and years and years. In fact, some of the hairdressers have been there for 20 years! While the decor is contemporary, and the stylists are updated on new styles and techniques they are well equipped to cater to the needs of a diverse set of clients..... Every time I go there the place is full with new and old customers. There are young clients, elderly clients, men, women and children. I have been going here for some time and have my favorite hairdresser--Christeena--she RoCks! Call ahead for an appointment. If you aren't picky on who does your hair, you can get an appointment in a timely manner. But hairdressers such as Christeena are often booked out for weeks.... Oh...and don't let the sound of the name Brass Ring confuse you...they aren't as expensive as it sounds. In fact, you will pay only a tad more than a chain like master cuts. read more

I really love this salon. I was afraid it would be expensive, but the price of a hair cut is very comparable to any other run of the mill salon in the same area. Then I was afraid it would be a little old biddy beauty shop straight out of the Steel Magnolia's movie, but again I was surprised to find everything very up scale and modern. The woman who work here really keep up on the trends and are so friendly. They do much more here than cut hair, it is a full service salon right down to the body wraps. I've had one done here and I really enjoyed it, and the lady that does them, along with massage and facials is very sweet and knowledgeable, she did no make me feel uncomfortable at all. The only service I can speak to is the waxing. My friend and I had just moved to Port Orchard from San Diego and took a chance at Brass Ring for eyebrow waxing. I have natural eyebrows that have/had a nice shape, so I told her please only clean them up. I went first and was sat in the shampoo chair. The woman who waxed my eyebrows stood on one side, did not turn my head and obviously just didn't care what the outcome was. She sent me away with wax all over my face and did not put a finisher on me to calm my skin down. She did my friend and basically took off the end of her left brow. My friend was so upset, and when she told her that she was upset, practically in tears the woman didn't say a word and still charged her the full payment. First off let me say that I take full responsibility for jumping the gun and just going with the first person I found. Billie Jean sent me only one picture of a hairstyle I requested. I took her word that she could replicate what she'd already done. When I arrived at the salon, I showed her several pictures of what I was looking for and color I wanted my blonde balayage/ombre. I was there for 4 hours of awkward conversation during which I sat alone with some magazines that I was extremely grateful for. Anyway fast forward to the final product that turned out to be a brassy orange color which she promised to fix the next week. It looked cute in a curled style which I now know was to mask the horrible.splotchiness hidden underneath. 2 days later I finally wash and brush my hair to find spots and splotchiness. I also noticed the toner she used on my roots lifted my base color! I messaged her saying I wanted to just dye it brown but my sister in law, who owns her own salon, advised against it. I was not okay with going back and having this lady ruin my hair even more. When I told this to her she explained she could fix my hair but she wouldn't refund me the $140 because "she stands by her work." She even had the audacity to tell me the shampoo I was using turned my hair orange. Please! STAY AWAY!!!!!! You've been warned read more

This place has a pretty good reputation around town. So when I was shopping around for a salon to do hair/make up for my wedding party, I gave them a call. I spoke with a girl who took my information and was supposed to call me back with the answers to my questions. I never heard back from her. You would think they would want the business...? April at the Brass Ring does my hair and I am a fussy client with difficult hair! LOL Seriously though, I have had great luck scheduling appointments, even last minute when I suddenly had to get a professional photo. April has taken the time to get to know my fine hair and worked hard to keep me looking good and reduce the maintenance time to keep it that way. I used to drive to Tacoma or Silverdale and pay outrageous amounts of money to come back unhappy with my hair so I was very pleased to finally find a hairdresser and salon that I can commit to here in my hometown. Lindsay is a great stylist. She understands coloring more than other places I've been. She did make my hair too light once but fixed it immediately and took the time to make sure it was done right. She cares about how you feel when she's done. I went to another place because they could get me in with short notice and will live to regret it til I can get the time to go back in to have Lindsay fix the mess. read more

I discovered Jaime as a walk in. She just moved from Ketchikan recently so she had a so she had a slot available. I have travelled to Seattle for twenty years for hair styling and paid $80-$90 per cut. Jaime did a fabulous job at less than half the cost and is cute as a button! I am hooked. Very unhappy with brass ring. My girlfriend paid 160 for a trim and color. 4 days later the color washed out. She returned to the salon and was told it must be her fault or the product she used as shampoo. She has used the same shampoo and conditioner for years and NEVER had this problem. No attempt to fix the problem or refund her money at all. Not even an apology. Just blamed her. You screw up someone's hair and charge $160 and don't even stand behind your work? No offer to correct YOUR mistake? Not very good business practice in my opinion. read more

Absolutely blown away by my first appointment with Shannon at The brass ring today. After numerous bad experiences with previous haircuts with other stylist's in other salons. I went in feeling unsure of how I should have it cut. Since I will be having surgery soon and will have a neck brace and halo on my head, I didn't know how I should have it cut. She put me at ease straight away, asking relevant questions and offering advice throughout the appointment. And she had a lovely and warm personality. My hair feels so healthy and I am now completely in love with my hair. And to top it off, Shannon gave me her card and said to call her if I have problems washing my hair during recovery and that she has a mobile washing station. I just moved here and in desperate need of a hair cut, possible color and eye brow wax. I walked in ( their sign said walk ins welcome) I stood there for 5 minutes before anyone came to the front. I told the lady what I would like done and asked if they could fit me in . she looked me up and down, went to the computer and said " well it could be a wait but let me see if so and so can do it. she has a huge gap , I glanced over and she had well over a hour . ( I could at least get a hair cut). she came back . looked me up and down again and said.. nope she's busy. sorry and walked away.. Awful. Charged $25 to tell me they cannot die my hair. They used a sample packet, then said my hair was to damaged to die. All I needed done was the roots done but the lady just wanted to leave early. Said she would do it if I let her cut off half of my hair. I was in tears then had to pay for being shown the door. Luckily I went to third dimension, where they know how to dye hair and use Products to protect the damaged part of your hair. read more
