    Yooper Gold cocktail
    Katie D.

Stopped in for cocktails...first of all, the building was so hot. It was in the 90s that day and they don't have AC. I decided to try the Yooper Gold cocktail which was supposed to have cherry juice and a cherry in it. It definitely had zero cherry flavor whatsoever. It was essentially just whiskey and sour mix. I did not like it at all.

This was such a great little place for lunch! My friend and I originally wanted to come for breakfast because their eggs benedict options looked great but we ended up sleeping in and came later. You order at the front and then there's a buzzer you take with you, and someone brings your food to you. We got the whitefish dip to share which honestly they gave us so much it's definitely a good enough size for 3-4 people to share. I got the Hot Mama burger which has pepper jack cheese, grilled onions & jalepeños and spicy mayo. My friend got the Breakfast Burger. We both looked at each other and literally said this was one of the best burgers we've both ever had. I don't know what they do but we were blown away. They have little picnic benches out in the back you can sit at and enjoy the beautiful view as well.

It is not often you get to write a first review. The Breakwater opened in June 2022 and we visited in July. The place looks great. Log cabin interior look and feel with a ground floor and loft eating area. You order at the counter and they deliver to your table. My wife had a cheese steak sandwich and I ordered the whitefish sandwich. My wife said the her sandwich was pretty good. Both sandwiches came on the same type of hogie bun and it was super soft and fresh. The fish sandwich seemed to me like it was blackend. This was not in the description, if it had been I would have ordered something else. I am not a fan of blackend anything. But it was light enough that I was okay with it. Both sandwiches came with chips and a pickle. The chips were kettle style and pretty good. Chip flavor options were not a choice. The only down side to our experience was the wait time. We arrived about noon and they weren't very busy. So it wasn't a rush delay. Finally I got up and asked about our meal. I didn't save the receipt for an exact wait time but I drank two glasses of tea while waiting. When our order showed up they apologized for the delay and blamed it on the change over from breakfast to lunch. Not a 5 star place, would have been a good 4 but the wait time earned them the 3. I would go back. Hopefully the wait time was just a fluke.

Lovely dining rooms and Jamie took SUCH good care of us! We shared orders of pirogies and roasted Brussels sprouts - very interesting tastes and textures! We also shared a bone marrow butter burger with bacon. THE BEST!! I'm sorry we were keeping room for dessert, because we didn't finish the parmesan fries. Dessert was Good Ole Chocolate Cake and Bread Pudding. Oh, and I may have mentioned it was my wife's birthday, so her dessert had a candle in it and the dining room sang happy birthday to her.

For $40 a plate I expected something, anything that stood out. Sides were cold and lacked any flavor, fish was not special. The space is clean. The service was okay... after waiting a few minutes to be sat (no problem at all there) we waited another 10+ minutes for a high chair - yet I told the host we needed one upon arrival. Multiple people walking by every few minutes seeing we were standing up with our 1 year old. Greeted by our server, drinks brought to the table and still no high chair. I finally asked again politely where I could go grab it myself. The server herself was friendly. Hence she gets two stars.

The atmosphere was relaxed, with a baseball game playing on a few TVs. We ordered a bowl of chili, a cup of soup, and a grilled ham & cheese on sourdough. Everything came out perfectly cooked and flavorful. The homemade chips were a nice touch and added to the overall meal. One issue worth noting: the prices listed on the menu and specials board did not match what we were charged on the receipt. The actual prices were higher than advertised, which was disappointing. While the food and service were great, clearer and more accurate pricing would improve the overall experience.

We prefer bar service over dining service, seem to be generally more attentive and the two staff work as a team. Brandon is waiting on us. He's friendly and good at customer service. Ordered the whitefish dip, baba Ghanouj, superior whitefish tater tots, tabouli salad, superior whitefish chowder, superior whitefish tacos with black pepper fries and a spicy crispy chicken sandwich and cabbage slaw. $111 They do charge a 4% transparency fund: employee retention, living wages, staff happiness. Written on the bottom of your bill. The dishes are scratch made, in house. Nice! The tabouli is too, has some mixed greens in it. There is something sweet in the dressing or the buckwheat, not my thing at all. Rest of the salad is good though. The baba ghanouj on its own is quite garlicky, slight Smokey flavor to it. It doesn't work with the pita crackers. Not loving this at all. The whitish dip is good. My hubby liked the sweet pickled for watermelon rind garnish, I didn't like them much. The spicy chicken sandwich on the brioche bun is really good. The chicken is super crispy. It's quite good. The whitish tacos are good. The whitefish seems to be blackened, really nicely. The fish is light and perfectly cooked. The whitefish chowder is so good! The tater tots are so delicious. No slouch here. Crunchy and so yummy! Food was so unique and quiet food. The side pepper fries are and slaw ate both a bit blah, compared to the majority of our flavorful meals Service is top notch.
