Wide Open Walls Sacramento was born in 2018. It's always a pleasant surprise to be going about town and seeing masterpieces of art. It brightens up my day. Fun, colorful, and contemporary art. Free for all to enjoy. Brilliant! I don't know how they got organized with an annual festival and an official Board of Directors, but so glad they did. New artists are added annually. Website: wideopenwalls.com. On the website, you can filter by artist or neighborhood to view a virtual map of the murals . The 2020 festival is slated for September. The artwork are scattered about town (downtown/midtown, East Sacramento, Del Paso Heights, Arden, Curtis Park, Oak Park, CSU Sacramento). Each WOW mural has a plaque with the artist name, piece, and a smartphone scan box from which you can electronically download more info. A lot of these murals are accessible in downtown and midtown and are very Instagram worthy. So it would be a fun weekend activity to rent a Jump Bike or Scooter and explore the art and city. #wideopenwallssacramento #publicartmuralssacramento

Now the WPA Rock Garden is a lush home for a variety of California natives, succulents, and drought tolerant plants. The design of this green space pairs Sylvia with Russian sage, tall bright dahlias, black eyed Susan and Shasta daisy's, cone flower, lantana, dusty Miller, and soft silvery fuzzy lambs ear. The walking paths are edged with low growing ramblers, and various unique succulents peek through strewn Lodi brown River rock. This is a place to walk-through and appreciate some of California nature's beautiful colors, peaceful foliage and texture. This space provides a pleasing level of texture and interest to the minds eye. Meditate your way, walk through this rock garden breathe deeply and enjoy the pure O2 as it will lift your spirits. Thank you WPA volunteers for maintaining this beautiful space. Endnote: the WPA Rock garden is located in William Land Park across the street from the Zoo. If you park north of the zoo, you can walk across the street at the crosswalk at the light...it's at the top of the amphitheater parking lot.

He treats every person with respect, and meets them where they're at. I learned a lot from him. Possibly even more importantly than what I learned though, was how much fun I had! It's hard to find wholesome, fun ways to meet folks, and the sweet crowd these classes attract is really something special. I made friends, and even met someone lovely that I dated for a while! Obviously, your mileage may vary, but I hear a lot of stories like that from his students. If you are looking for a way to intensely focus on building mastery of your voice quickly, you should realize this isn't the place for that. You share Eli's brilliance with a dozen or so other people, so your individual time with him is limited. In this case, If you have the funds, I'd suggest taking his class and finding someone else to work with for 1-1 sessions. I've enjoyed seeing a variety of teaching styles doing this in the past. If however, you're wanting to brush up on your skills, are brand new to singing and want to have a compassionate place to learn how to get started, or if you're more advanced and want to be introduced to new skills like learning to write songs or sing with an instrument you're playing... or if you just want a way to meet community that is structured and focused on a fun activity... I would highly recommend Eli's group classes.

Eli is so skilled at creating instant community in his classes. He creates a safe space for us all to be vulnerable with one another. And in some ways - singing and performing in front of others is super scary and requires you to be super vulnerable in order to connect with your performance piece. The creation of this community from the first class allows all of us to immediately feel comfortable with one another so that we can get to work and support each other every step of the way leading up to our concert.
