Josh Haynes (GM) should be embarrassed. He and his staff have an incredible piece of land and a beautiful course that they have operationally undermined through poor management and (what I have to characterize as) a general indifference to customer satisfaction. A Sunday morning in July (the 28th), and there was not a single shift leader on site. At 7:30 AM, no coffee prepared, nor cook available for breakfast burritos. There was no cart girl available until after 12 PM, (due to the previous night's attendant not charging the beverage cart), and good luck ordering food for the turn; no online menu nor accessible way to be in touch with the grill ahead of time - instead, a 20+ minute wait and a dissatisfied cadence of golfers. And the cherry on top: Two woefully inadequate sets of rental golf clubs (esp for the price); one set missing 5 clubs (no driver nor 5 iron) and the other with a putter without a grip and a broken 3 wood. Honestly, I don't care that the pro shop lost their sponsorship a few weeks earlier. I don't care that there is a new-ish administration. I don't care that Josh, or one of his cohort, was on vacation. These are not problems that the customer should shoulder. These (and the above) are hallmarks of derelict leadership and woeful operational execution. One star review, with 5 stars readily available if The Bridges decide to refocus on the customer experience and give their management some agency to fix obvious and glaring issues with their operation. Excellent course. Golf course is in great condition given the drought and insanely hot days. Greens are smooth and roll well. I love the layout-the course has challenges for all players. Would not recommend the tips unless you carry 250 off the tee. read more

Was excited to play this course, but extremely disappointed in the overall experience. The grass quality was poor at best. They double charged us for our cart. The greens looked okay at first but there were 6 or more pin placements that were within feet of the edge or on a 30 degree or more slope. The staff was kind, but I don't know that there was anyone over the age of 21 working.... For $100+ per person this course was a joke. read more

This used to be one of my favorite courses near me. While I still enjoy playing there, I have moved to other options in the last couple years. At one point I was playing weekly there and while I completely understand staff wanting to take care of the course, a greenskeeper approached us and was a complete jerk about how we didn't have all 4 tires of cart on path near tee box. No complaints if that is their rule or whatever, but that can be relayed without making people want to . . . Anyway, my other objection to playing there is they do cart path only way too often. I play all over and it's not even close. If it sprinkled the night before, they add 30 minutes to your round. The course itself is very fun and has some challenging holes, especially considering not a lot of elevation changes. Number 6 has a difficult green that tilts deeply to the right and 18 has enough water to make it interesting. The facilities and driving range are nice as well. read more

The Bridges Golf Club - Not sure about a tree in the middle of the fairway on 18 - Golf Near Me - Gunter, Texas

We only saw a cart girl on the 2nd tee, they took our card to start a tab and never saw them again. We finished 18 a couple minutes past 8 however they were closed right at 8 and wouldn't let us get our cards (there were quite a few people still on the course after). There was still plenty of light outside and could have finished another 3-4 holes probably before dark. Management refused to let us get our cards to close out, automatic gratuity added and told us to cancel our cards so we couldn't get them back. The course itself was incredible, no complaints about that! Just management and staff were ridiculous. read more

Depending where you live, it can be quite a drive to get there but it is well worth it! The Bridges is a links-style course that plays like one. The fairways are firm, fast and smooth and the greens are some of the best I have experienced in the Metroplex! They can be challenging due to undulation but they run smooth and true. We had a very early tee time and never ran into a maintenance person the entire round. The staff is professional and friendly. The only negative and the reason for four instead of five stars is that a number of the fairway bunkers had liners showing through. On the flip side, the greenside bunkers were in great shape and consistent from one to the next. read more

The Bridges is a course we played often. The course itself has really gone down hill and is in horrible condition. The greens, tee boxes, and fairways were thin and not maintained what so ever. We will not return. There are plenty of courses in the area to visit. I would pass on this one. read more

Tee'd off at 4 pm on a Saturday, saw the cart girl on the 2nd hole and never again. To order from the cart girl they take your card back to the clubhouse and hold it until the end of the round. Finished the round at 8:04, they locked up the pro shop and there was no manager on sight to unlock the safe that they dropped the card into. So there was no way to get my credit card. I called the next morning and spoke with the manager and he was extremely unprofessional saying "we close at 8, did you finish your round before 8?" Nobody informed me I had to get my card picked up before 8. The last manager left at 7, and he was the only one with a key to the safe. The manager "Mike" was extremely sarcastic saying I should have been there before 8 because thats when they close. There were 3 other groups on the course behind us still playing and I'm sure this happens regularly. Most unprofessional customer service I've had with the amount of sarcasm coming from the manager. read more

This course can be great fun for any level golfer. There is plenty of "trouble" but also lots of open fairways and scenery to enjoy. The staff are always friendly and accommodating and the driving range and putting green seem to always be in great shape. read more

Greens are clean. Carts are nice. Group of 7 cut us off before hole 10. If you're not solid at keeping the ball in the fairway, then bring plenty of balls for drops next to the weed/tall grass surrounding almost every hole. read more

The course has a great layout but severe maintenance issues. There was barely a blade of grass in any of the fairways. While this is more than likely the result of the 'freeze', it was obvious no concerted effort has been made to restore damaged areas. Not worth it for the prices charged. read more

This course is designed by Fred Couples and offers pretty competitive greens fee. Keep in mind that this course is in the middle of freaking no where. Part of the reason is that surrounding lots are meant for houses, but there aren't many buildings yet. Gunter is pretty far from Dallas Uptown as well. But if you are willing to drive some ways, you will be happy with what you find at Bridges. The course is not crowded and pretty cheap during the busy times. The layout is pretty open for the most part. Even if you don't hit balls straight from the tee and you are in trouble, you still have some kind of recovery shot for your next one. This is especially true for the first nine. I find back nine more difficult for some reason, but it could just be me. The course is not necessarily short and there are many holes that rewards those who takes risks. I like the drivable par 4 with difficult green; maybe because I almost drove my ball to the green every time I played. Haha. Overall, I highly recommend this course. read more

This review is for the GOLF only - I absolutely love this course and will gladly make the hour+ drive for a Golfnow hot deal. That being said, the CARTS ARE JUNK. The two times I've played here I've seen multiple breakdowns and it effects the pace of play when they don't have the staff to manage the shop and what's happening out on the course.. Don't let the wide open layout lull you into thinking this course is easy or forgiving. The fescue-lined fairways are ready to gobble your ball up should your shot go astray. Gunter has a sign as you enter stating that it is the "Home of The Bridges." They are super proud of this course and should be. Well maintained and worth the 1+ hour drive North of Dallas, this course has become one of my new favs. Don't rely on someone else's vacation photo montage to guide your decisions on where to play your next round of golf. The course is very nice and I was very excited to get the chance to play it though I didn't get to enjoy or even finish the front nine. The grasshoppers are absolutely terrible!!!! They're thousands of them, on the greens, tee boxes, and the fairways. While driving on the cart path they fly everywhere and all over you, it was very gross, I know it's nature but it made it quite impossible to enjoy. I don't know if paying full price is worth it especially with the drive, but when you are able to book on GolfNow and the bugs aren't bad, it would be a steal. read more

If I could speak with the Course Superintendent, would ask for two things: -PLEASE, PLEASE do something with your rough. Generally little grass-all weeds. Rock hard-the pavement isn't as hard as your rough. -Let the fairway grow. Its healthier than the scraped off surface that exists and would make the play better. Hard, thin fairway difficult to take a divot on. Also, greens are good and fast. Wonder since they are scraped tight like the fairway, how long this will last now that 100 degree days are here. read more

This course is worth the drive, and don't let the wide open spaces deceive you. Should you venture off the fairway, make sure you have extra golf balls, which makes this challenging in its own right. The course is in great condition and the deal on Groupon is a steal. The only drawback is the lack of shade on a warm day, but every hole has a uniqueness to it. Well done! read more

This was the worst experience I have ever had at a Golf Course. When we arrived the man in the pro shop was extremely rude. There were no other employees in the clubhouse before out tee time so we were unable to get drinks or food before our round. Didn't realize we needed to eat before we came. It is hard to play when you are hungry. The course was in okay condition. The greens are extremely tough to put. At the turn we were finally able to get some drinks and snacks. The entire time we did not see the cart girl until we were teeing off on 18. The only positive experiences were the hot dogs and the Marshall (Players Assistant). read more

Oh my. This is an awful golf course. It is basically a cow pasture with a golf course placed in the middle of it. Not well kept at all. The people working there and playing there were a bunch of arrogant asses. The clubhouse was covered with insect webs. The only half decent thing was the carts. They were new though. It is waaaaay overpriced also. Do yourself a huge favor and play Westridge in Mckinney or even Pecan Hollow in Plano. Pretty much anywhere but there. Kind of fits Fred Couples arrogance perfectly. read more

This is a good course. I wouldn't make the almost hour long drive up there to pay full price for their greens fee, but for a discount rate on GolfNow it's well worth the drive. Challenging course for sure, especially the greens. Being in the middle of nowhere surrounded by farmland, it gets windy and there are lots of grasshoppers (usually in July). read more

It's quite a drive for many of us. Challenge with this course is the fairways are all hard pan...they run and you're hitting tight lies quite often. Greens are OK. The wind up there is quite strong and makes it a bit less enjoyable. Fairly wide open during the week if you can find a GolfNow rate. Weekends are busy. All in all, you can find better options closer in. I can't recommend it for the shape of the course and distance from DFW. And food offerings in the restaurant are pretty weak. That said, staff is pretty nice. read more

Would be 5 stars, but the greens on 16, 17 were pitted and not growing out, making a line difficult to manage. I love this course. It's situated in the middle of a housing development that didn't develop. The fairway traps and strategically placed tee boxes make this place a fun challenging round. It's not too difficult because if you miss your not in someone yard or street over because they aren't there yet. I consider myself a hacker and I love this place. I've played it 5 times now. 42-45 on the front and the back get harder. Normally on the back I'm 45-47 because of some ponds and dog legs that need well placed tee shots.. STAY AWAY! I don't want you slowing me down. read more

I had the displeasure of playing this course this past weekend. I live in Frisco and we have an abundance of good golf choices at a reasonable price. However we had some good friends that suggested we play the Bridges. Silly me for thinking that if I was going to drive to the middle of no where and pay $54 that it must be a great course. (When I could have stayed in Frisco and payed around $30 and had many great course options.) In this economic climate paying $50 is a moderately high amount and there is certainly an expectation of the course when you do. Enough about my rant. Regarding the course: In spite of the summer we have just gone through I would still expect a course that considers itself this "caliber" to be well irrrigated and cared for. Not so. The bunkers had little sand in them and what was in them was like concrete, the fairways did not seem to be remotely adequately irrigated. The greens did not seem to be adequately irrigated and the "native areas" between fairways was more just "weeds" than native. Add to that the course has poor directional signage. What this boils down to is if I had paid $19 or less for the round I wouldn't complain, but to drive out to Gunter and pay over $50 to play there is an expectation which this course does not remotely live up to. To summarize, with all the great golf course options in the DFW area at $54 a round this course is not remotely one of them. read more

Above rating is for the course only. For winter conditions (we played 2/16/14) fairways and greens were in good shape. It was super windy(20+mph), my 1st time to play, and I shot an 83... Guys in the pro shop were OK, didn't think they were going to engage us in any conversation until I joked about the drive up...( from Hurst/ 1hr 20 min). Then they shared their driving stories. I enjoy that it is like you are in the country (like Turtle Hill is) The greens were pretty quick and probably the most undulating/rise & fall that I have ever played. I liked that, just on the putting green I figured putting could give me an extra stroke per hole. We had an Ideal golfer, so a round, with dog/chips/drink/range balls was $25...So the price was great for the course! RANGE BALLS: OMG, I think they had a diver collect all the water balls from the ponds, and they put them, unwashed, into service...I don't use balls that bad (what I call my water balls) when I'm going for a long water crossing. They were dirty, felt hollow, and had almost NO dimples left on them...Cart girl was around frequently, 19th hole area was pretty bare/uninviting. Hotdogs just OK. I had been wanting to play this course, not sure if I would make the 2.5 hr round trip from my house again, but if you are in the vicinity, the course itself is worth it. read more

I called to set up a tee time on Wednesday the 23rd of may, for Monday the 28th of May. (memorial day) I found a coupon on Golfq for buy one get one greens fees. (copy attached) nowhere on this coupon does it say the coupon is not valid on holidays, but knowing that it was a holiday I specifically asked the man who booked the tee time. Can use this coupon? He said "sure, come on out, we'll take care of you"... I the proceed to call 3 of my buddy's to come play golf with me. Upon arriving at your facility I am informed that I CANNOT use the coupon, because it's a holiday!!! I specifically asked this question when booking my tee time. Now I am forced to explain to my group that we have to pay more than double what I told them to play, because you attendant will not honor his word. He even said that he thought it was him that I spoke to when booking, but he said he didn't realize that Monday was a holiday. And there is way to honor this coupon. ( I am not sure how someone that looks at a calendar all day would not know this.) We live in the Denton area, it's an hour drive to get to Gunter, so we paid 45.00 each, and went out to get ready to play. At 9:30 on a Monday morning you do not have a single cart ready for use. We wait for ten minutes to get 2 golf carts for my group to use. After arguing with your attendant and waiting for golf carts, we were left with no time to warm up. This is UNACCEPTABLE to me!!! By the looks and condition of the course it appears money is problem for The Bridges. And with the kind of service I received, it will continue. I will not be back to your facility and will tell anyone I come in contact with, to not waste their time driving to The Bridges to play golf, it's not worth it! Bottom line....If a customer calls and asked if the coupon will be honored and is told yes when booking, that should be the end of the story. HONOR THE COUPON!!!! I have been in the customer service industry for more than 20 years, and the only rule is, "the customer is always right!" unless you are at The Bridges! read more
