I came for the beer, stayed for the empanadas, and will absolutely be back for both. The OG Chopped Cheese and Adobo Chicken empanadas are incredible. They are crispy, flavorful, and perfect with a pint. I'm a big fan of their classic beers, especially the American Pale Ale and the delightfully named Smile My Guy. They have some super fun collar beers right now too. The space is huge and laid-back with an awesome backyard that's perfect for lingering over a second (or third) round. read more

The Bronx Brewery is a craft brewery that opened in the Bronx, New York in October 2014. It was founded by business partners Damian Brown, Chris Gallant, Steve O'Sullivan, Kirk Voltz and Niall Henry. O'Sullivan came up with the idea to start a brewery in The Bronx in 2009. To make this idea a reality, he enlisted the help of Brown (a homebrewer), Gallant (a former executive for Heineken), Voltz and Henry. Launching in 2011, the brewery initially started out simply as a brand that gypsy brewed with the help of the now defunct Cottrell Brewing Company in Pawcatuck, Connecticut. Bronx Brewery was the first brewery to launch in The Bronx since Rheingold Brewery left the borough in the 1960s. The first brew that Bronx Brewery launched was "Bronx Pale Ale". By 2014, the partners opened their own brick & mortar brewery at a former lace factory in the Port Morris section of the Bronx. A secondary taproom opened in Manhattan's East Village in late 2018, but closed in early 2025. A third taproom opened in The Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards in Manhattan in November 2022. Although most of the company's co-founders have moved on to other ventures, Brown still serves as the head brewer. I visited the Bronx Brewery this past summer while I was cycling around NYC. I was trying out a number of breweries and pizzerias and this was my sixth and final stop of the day. The clientele at most craft breweries tends to be predominantly white men in their 30s and 40s. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the clientele at the Bronx Brewery was predominantly men AND women of color; pretty cool! Aside from the main taproom, the brewery features a large outdoor space (dubbed the "Backyard") which often hosts musical guests. There is also a seating area on the production floor which was dubbed "The Lab". Unfortunately, there was a private party going on when I visited and I was unable to visit the Backyard or the Lab. After looking over the beer menu, I decided to order draft pours of "Smile My Guy" (Session IPA) and "No Resolutions" (IPA). They were both pretty refreshing. The brewery is also home to its own Puerto Rican-inspired kitchen. Customers can order delicious empanadas or sandwiches from the "Empanology" menu or artisanal pizza pies from their "EmPie Artisanal Pizza" menu. After looking over the food menus, I ordered and enjoyed a delicious "Middle of Little Italy" (white wine citrus shrimp, banana peppers, fresh garlic, mozzarella) to pair with my beers. I have tried the beer from The Bronx Brewery's other location but this was my first experience with this location. This time out Steve and I had the Now Youse Can't Leave which was an Imperial IPA. It was good, robust and lived up to it's IPA type nicely. Flavor features with this beer are juicy, sweet with a slight presence of honey. As I already mentioned it's strong and in body it is smooth. A good IPA and a fairly memorable one which I can't always say because they sometimes blur together after a while. read more

One of My Favorite Spots in the Bronx! Absolutely love The Bronx Brewery--it's hands down one of the best spots to hang out, grab a drink, and enjoy some amazing food. The beer selection is top-notch with something for every taste, whether you're into hoppy IPAs or smooth lagers. I ordered the Honey Hot Fried Chicken Sandwich, and let me just say--it might be the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, juicy, flavorful, with just the right amount of heat. I also tried the BBQ Chicken Pizza, which was solid and full of flavor. They do have indoor seating, but the real gem is the backyard. It's the perfect place to chill, eat, drink, and vibe to the music they've got playing. When the weather's nice, it's unbeatable. We absolutely loved The Bronx Brewery! It was a surprisingly warm winter day with nothing to do, so we decided to hop in the car and take a ride to the Bronx. We lucked out with parking as we got there relatively early and it's in an industrial neighborhood so plenty of the surrounding businesses were closed on a Saturday. The main bar is when you walk in and where they were serving since they were setting up for an event later that night. The back area is a huge room/event space where they make the magic happen. There is also a stage, another bar, and the backyard area (closed until the spring). Tons of room, great acoustics when the DJ showed up, and the bee is delish! We also had to try the chopped cheese empanadas from the restaurant onsite and they were incredible, as well. We had an excellent time and cannot wait to go back in the spring when it's warmer. read more

I tried the Jolly Pumpkin Ale, Cigar City Brewing Imperial IPA, and the Southern Tier Harvest Autum IPA. the jolly was not bad for a pumpkin ale, the IPAs were great though, especially the Harvest Autumn IPA. Not just because it's from NY but had the perfect amount of hoppiness. every pint is just under 10 bucks, which is standard in this economy, so not bad. definitely easy to get a pint here, so service is great. (beer garden review) I came on a hot afternoon, planning to scope out the space for a potential event. Unfortunately, I was not able to get someone to show me the space - busy-ness plus set-up for another event. The space is really unique. Being by a train track being many stories higher than the beer garden makes for some pauses in conversation. I love the greenery and art throughout the space, which makes it feel more enchanted. Everyone working here seemed a bit... panicked? Maybe it was just ensuing party they were taking care of. I eventually got my pour and found some shade. Only port-o-potties available outside, but I assume there are standard bathrooms inside. Parking was pretty easy at 3pm on a Friday. The traffic around the area, though, was maddening, so be prepared when you leave. read more

Had some time to spend so came here on a whim and really wish we had had more time. It was actually fairly surprising how enjoyable the spot was. It's so unassuming that it would be easy to miss. The day we went, they were having an expo inside so we weren't allowed there, which was a bit of a bummer. Came here a few months back with my colleagues as a get together. If you want live DJ music, dancing and outdoor air then head to their back which has a bar too. But if you want more of a quiet time to enjoy your beer you can always stay in their indoor bar. The staff is very friendly approachable and very good at recommending beer to match your preference. Their brew is good especially with their summer pale ale which is sweet. Their Truffle Parmesan Fries was the best out of all the food option they offer. Bronx Brewery located in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx is a nice place for some casual eats. If you're familiar with the area, its pretty industrial but once you arrive they have a very nice backyard with a resident food truck called Empanology that makes miniature empanadas, sandwiches and just in the last year added a new pizza oven. I've been a few times and I will say that they have a nice space that different from many other establishments in the neighborhood. They pay homage to the Bronx culture which is pretty cool. There are so many details to see everywhere you look even down to the graphics on the plastic water cups. They have two other locations located in Manhattan (East Village and Hudson Yards) but I've only been to this original location in the Bronx. The pizza was pretty tasty, nicely charred with good flavor. If you're looking for a typical thin NY slice that we have in the neighborhood -- thats not what they serve. I would get the Pizza again though. The Chicken sandwich is made with a thigh which I didn't love since I really only enjoy white meat but my friend LOVED it. They obviously like dark meat and said it was very juicy. SO if you like dark meat, this is for you! I tried it and I did enjoy the bite but I couldn't get over it being dark meat (I guess I'm weird ) The empanadas are consistent in size and really stuffed. I enjoyed chopped cheese empanadas and the red velvet empanadas. They switch up the flavors and run empanada specials. I also love that they make sweet ones for people who crave sweets. I think they also had a brownie flavor. The boneless chicken chunks were indeed white meat and I enjoyed them but if I had to be picky, I found them to be alittle dry. Thats an easy fix with less cook but I just used up the sauce to eat them. It wasn't anything offensive to complain about. I like that they have so many different craft beers made on premise and it's just a different food experience to try out close to home! Any staff that I interacted with were very nice. We sat in the outdoor area and met up with friends. There is a sign that says where to go to the patio if a cab drops you off in the front area. I brought my dog and son. They both enjoyed their time there. The outdoor area was spacious and a place to relax and catch up with friends. They have a bunch of their craft beers and offer beer flights. There are lots of IPA selections, and I was told that they try to excel in their pale ales. A limited selection of wine, hard seltzers, and cocktails are offered for those who don't want beer. Try their spicy watermelon margarita and their rose beer if they have it. They played a mix of music and hip hop, which my son loved. For food, I got the boneless wing which were bone dry even with the sauce. It was a shame since the sauce was good. The empanadas from Empanology were good. The best thing I had were the truffle garlic fries. Be aware that on weekends, they don't serve their whole menu. The facilities are 3 port-a-pottys in the back. read more

Came here tonight and surprise- it was trivia night! How cute!! Layout is small and a little wonky so if you want to be in on the action + have plenty of opportunities to socialize, I recommend sitting towards the front near the bar! Unfortunately I came around 8:30 and trivia was fully in-swing so the only seats were in the back sort of away from everyone. One of the things that struck me right as I came in was how welcoming the crowd felt and the amount of queer folks I saw. Definitely felt right at home pretty immediately. My partner and I ended up ordering a flight of beers to share. You get your selection of any 4 beers on tap for just $20. My partner then ordered the burger and fries and I ordered a selection of 4 empanadas (2 chopped cheese, 1 Korean pork, and 1 vegan esquites). My empanadas were delicious although I didn't care for the esquites one as much as the other three. My partners burger and fries came out cold unfortunately but I was told it had good flavor. Great brewery with an awesome beer garden. It's located nearby the Hell's Gate pathway on Randall's island which makes the brewery pretty accessible from Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn by bicycle. I had their Pilsner which I've had at other locations. It's always a solid choice. Crispy and a pleasant hoppy finish towards the end. They had an interesting black IPA that my friends loved. Their backyard seating is pretty ample, we went early when they opened around 12:30pm and snagged a nice shady table. However, the place already started getting busy around 1:30pm on a Sunday. They play great music, the usual mainstream hip-hop which was awesome because I thought this would be one of those places that plays Spanish music all day. Our bartender was soooooo friendly. We're not avid beer drinkers so he gave us great recommendations -- try their hard seltzer if you like White Claws or Trulys! We all got pretty tipsy after a few. We also got their 4 for $11 empanadas. They were yummy but really tiny, probably the size of your palm. Their OG chopped cheese fries however, we're HUGE. We couldn't finish them. It was too much going on with the toppings and sauce. Nonetheless, if you want a nice place to just chill out with your friends this summer, this place is where to be. I've been here for the first time last week. Came after rush hour so it only took half hour both ways. Plenty of street parking. Not sure if it's open to the public but they have a beautiful brewery on the premises. Just lights up the place when you walk in along with their beautiful artistic works on the walls. Bright and warming atmosphere when you walk in very inviting. Love the unique menu set up on the wall and styles. I'm usually not a Beer person but I would love to back weather it's there or a different location which they have. Good looks delicious. Great staff and managers are great too. They have actually donated to numerous nonprofit organizations. So works well within and outside the community. I love a restaurant/business that gives back. What a fun space! When I went there was live music and several tattoo artists, and the energy was so good. The outdoor space is such a nice area for larger groups, and I had a ton of fun drinking and playing games with some folks I met there. All of the staff were super nice, and I'd definitely go back. Not sure if Empanology has its own yelp page, but their empanadas were 11/10 absolutely delicious. So cheesy and flavorful but not oily, such banger empanadas. read more

Great space, great beer, great vibe. The outdoor/backyard is large, unique and visually appealing for selfies (inside the brewery as well). I'm not a beer drinker, but occasionally will throw one back. The Bronx Brewery has an assortment of beers. I tasted one of their signature beers, World Gone Rose, which had hints of grapefruit (according to my palette). It was sweet, smooth and enjoyable to the beer heads around me. We ordered empanadas and boneless chicken wings from Empanology. I was so hyped up to try items from their menu, but was underwhelmed. The chicken parm empanada had a beautiful flavor, just like a classic chicken parm, but the cheese was absent or so minute that I missed it. We also tried the red velvet empanada, which was basically red velvet cake in an empanada with a cream dipping sauce. It was delicious as well. The red velvet empanada reminded me of Drake's Cakes/Hostess before they became chemical bombs. With that said, the empanadas were great, but be warned!!!... they are really SMALLLLLLLLL... maybe three or four inches small and pricey. That was a complete bummer for me. In the future, I'd eat elsewhere first, then go to the Bronx Brewery to drink and chill. read more

Bronx Brewery provided the beer for my 2020 Yelp Swag Bag and my Super Bowl Sunday. Now that we drank their India Pale Ale celebrating, I'm here to say BUY local. This beer was a hit at my Super Bowl Party 2021. For my Yelpie Awards I was given two cans of "Smile My Guy" the Happy Hoppy! I have never reviewed a beer and can't explain one taste from another. It's a pale ale with light body and 5% alcohol content. My one party guest really enjoyed hers. Since my party attendees were my daughter only (due to Covid) I had some beer to satisfy my craving. It was great to share so she can spread the word about the brewery to her drinking friends. I'm sure the Brewery would make a great field trip to get away from Manhattan. I see a lot of Brewery and Wineries visited all over the country. I like to show off my local businesses. So don't be surprised if you see an update to this review in the future. Had a great with my friend for Oregon. Had a Contes brew and it was smooth and crisp. My buddy had a smile and enjoyed it. He had a few smiles that he had to buy a 4 pack of Smile to take home. I LOVVVVEEE me some Bronx Brewery. I visit NYC twice a year and whenever I am in the city I make it a point to review their upcoming events on Insta and make my way to one of their offerings. We were lucky they were offering so many different options while we were there but this review is brought to courtesy of BOMBA night! We arrived a little before the start time so my boyfriend and I started inside the bar and had a couple of beers and empanadas to start the night. The bartender was cool and explained everything to us thoroughly. My boyfriend is more of a beer snob than I am and he had the World Gone Hazy IPA which he enjoyed. I had the World Gone Rosé which was cool. He liked that one also. We got pizza and chopped cheese empanadas which were good. Other reviews mention the size but I find them to be filling. They have less pastry and more meat/filling which is actually what I prefer! Once finished, staff escorted us through the brewery to the backyard for bomba night. There were a bunch of people already in the backyard and the live music and dancing had already started. As someone who was previously unfamiliar with the history of bomba - I found this to be one of the most beautiful displays of Puerto Rican culture I have ever experienced in NYC. I researched the history of Bomba after the event and learned about the music and cultural significance. After the live music there was a DJ and more dancing. They had a special menu and beverages in the back yard but I didn't try any of the food. It looked delicious. My boyfriend tried another beer (Smile my Guy) and settled on that choice for the remainder of the night. If you are in The Bronx (or NYC) it is worth a trip to the Bronx brewery. Hey Ya'll, So...Bronx Brewery is a low-key place. I wanted to take a leisurely walk with hubby on this beautiful day, but remembered this place from a featured report on channel 12 news, I think. So, we drove here instead. We entered through the main entrance where you will find limited seating and a bar. But what is the coolest part about entering there is the opportunity to see the brewery through a set of double do.ors that employees only can enter. Through those doors, I saw a sign for the backyard and inquired about how to get there. We had to walk around the block to the back, enter through the green gate past the green loading dock. You will find more seating, high table seating as well as picninc benches, and a small stage for live entertainment. At the bar today, we met Ariana and Zha. They were very helpful and it was nice chatting with them. For drinks, we skipped the liquor and wine because, it's a beer brewery ya'll. I had the Lazy Hazy and my husband had No Resolutions, Ariana's favorite (that is how my husband remembered it ) . Our food choice was the fries with pico gallo and some sauce that tasted like spicy ketchup (sorry ) Overall, we had a good experience and will be back.
