Love this place and I come here often in the warmer months. However, I came here and sat indoors the other day. Same classic brewery experience. Soon as I came in the bartender offered me a menu and advised me the kitchen Was open. It was around 3pm on a Thursday I was in the area trying to get some dairy free coquito from Port Morris Distillery But to no avail they were closed. Decided to have a drink anyway. A very fun brewery but not very near anything else. We trekked out on our way back from the Bronx zoo and it was very worth the trip. We got a flight of 4 beers. As someone who doesn't love IPAs, I enjoyed their sour a lot even though it was technically labeled as an IPA. Their stout was also rich and delicious. Their food was great too. You have to order in their backyard. We got their wings (they come as boneless nuggets). You can choose 2 flavors. The chipotle bbq and the honey hot ones were both amazing! Came here on a Sunday afternoon. Everyone in the place was friendly (other customers and the staff!) Everyone working was super approachable and answered all the questions we had. (Shout out to Ariana). I really loved how community oriented they are. Started out with a flight and some empanadas. They were all delicious. Tried out the seltzer and the session IPA which were great as well. When you walk in it's smaller than some other breweries but it is super homey and welcoming. This is an instance where it should be 4 1/2 stars but not quite 5! Here goes my honest review (as always). I want to start off by saying I LOVE this spot! I live fairly close by and honestly feel spoiled with it being walking distance. I've gone down the reviews as I always do to see what others have to say. The negative reviews are seriously a joke! At some point, ppl just want to complain about ANYTHING. Stay the h*ll home if you want perfection. "This is a bad area late at night"...no sh*t Sherlock, you're in the SOUTH BRONX. However, this doesn't mean the area doesn't deserve change and awesome establishments! The train is literally 3 1/2 blocks away. Here's a tip: come with someone as you should anywhere in NYC to walk back with, drive, or take an Uber! On to the rest. I have seen the garbage outside etc. What's interesting about ppl complaining is that I don't see these complaints for the EXACT same thing in "nicer areas" or "nicer establishments ". The irony ppl will sit right next to trash on a sidewalk while simultaneously paying for a $10 matcha latte or $50 steak and won't bat an eye or put that on Yelp. Also...to the lady about balloons...REALLY? Lol what are we 6 years old at a party? This is how you're rating places? Lol Okay, okay here's what I have to say. I LOVE the vibe of this place. I've sat both inside and outside. I've had the empanadas and food from the brunch menu. I had the hangover fries (extra crispy fries) & they were bangin! EVERY time I've gotten the empanadas, they are bangin! The owners switch up the menu from time to time which is great. The food truck is permanently in the back yard. You order your food at the bar when sitting at the back, get a buzzer then walk up to the truck when you're done. So I'm actually not a beer drinker! Sorry guys! Buuuut i had the Cider Rose (in the Can) and omg Im obsessed! Pour it into a cup of ice on a hot day and what more do you need?! Oh and ladies, if you're watching your figure, it's only 6 carbs! Guilt-free drinking is seriously the cherry on top! They have games you can play inside which is cool also. I've seen ppl playing corn hole in the back. The staff has always been nice, both inside and outside. The bathroom inside is nice and clean! They do lots of events and themes during the warmer months! Tonight is "Bamba" night. The half star off is cause I do hate port-a-potty's but I get why they went that route! I really do. One other thing, is the service while inside Can suck at times if they are busy. So assert yourself and go up to the bar for your order or get in line. This isn't quite a waitress or waiter deal, which I wish could improve. However, places aren't fully staffed even as we get back to normalcy post-pandemic so it's all good! The ppl, vibes, food are all awesome so it's not an issue like that for me! I'd like to end by saying the couple that own empanology are SO nice and a young, Latino couple! It's my pleasure to support awesome tasting food but also know I'm supporting generational wealth within the Latino community. A community they have given back to COUNTLESS times before, during and after the pandemic. Maybe that extra information doesn't matter to some people but it does to me! So yes, these are smaller (but banging and meat filled) empanadas you're paying more for than the sidewalk abuelas, but understand what & who your dollar is supporting. Lastly, I LOVE the mix of people always here! Seriously you see a ton of ppl who ran races, rode bikes etc, then random Black and Latinos, hipster White people etc. It has ALWAYS been genuine good vibes here and everyone listening to music, talking (yes talking), dancing, playing games. I've been here many times on various occasions and the energy is always right. I come here mainly for the culture, great music, and of course, the brew. I came for a pop-up shop event and it was dope to see local vendors coming together and exhibiting their hard work. For those that haven't been, most events/parties are hosted in the patio area which is pretty large. The staff (specifically the bartender) is friendly and attentive. My friend and I went with a cider and a rosé and both were really good. They also have a lot of games (jenga, checkers, etc.) for people to play while they drink, dine, or just chill. The highlight of my night were the tasty empanadas from Empanology. My friend and I tried the shrimp rasta pasta ones (OMG THEY WERE SO BOMB) and the pizza ones (just as bomb too). I wish I could've ordered more but their kitchen was closed. Good thing is now I know what flavors to refer to next time I go! If you're looking for a chill Friday night vibe, this is the place to be. The only downside (in my opinion) is that they have porta pottis outside instead of bathrooms. Breweries are all about great experiences. I not only had great beers, but I made some new friends. Also, the bartender Kevin is one dope dude and everyone knew him. I tried the American Pale Ale, That Good Light, and Blacktop Stout. The pale ale is their flagship beer that was as piney, citrusy, and malty - a bold and solid beer! I also really enjoyed the stout for its silky chocolate coffee flavors. Oh, it's also 9% ABV! Also, on Mondays its only $5 a pint! I originally wanted a flight of beers but Kevin shared the good news so I had 3 pints but tasted various other beers thanks to him. Fun vibrant brewery ideally situated close to the 6 train and Amtrak. They also have ample parking outside if you drive. This is our favorite spot to go before the Yankees game. They always have a variety of selections and everything I've tried of theirs is delicious! I like to sample for in their tasting flight before choosing a pint. Yesterday Tina recommended an ideal assortment of refreshing light selections. 'This and That' is an IPA brewed with hibiscus and is not sweet but has a great finish. My other favorite of the day was their Summer Pale Ale which is brewed with lemon peel. When they're not made through, you can enter the brewing area to cross into a large back terrace that has corn hole and other lawn games to enjoy it while you sip your suds. I had come to this brewery with friends one night and I loved the vibe of it that I had to come back! I came back to visit because I absolutely fell in LOVE with the WORLD GONE ROSE IPA. I am not a beer or IPA lover but I fell in love with this one. Being from Jersey I have gone to a couple of breweries and they never have food and this one did! Which was so DELICIOUS! I had ordered the fried chicken sandwich and it was to die for and with the side of truffle parm fries it made my BELLY HAPPY! The people working there were really nice! Our first stop of our list of Bronx must visit places came serendipitously as we passed the stop we were supposed to and decided to do the Brewery first. Best decision EVER! The brewery was relatively empty with just a couple and another patron inside. The beer section is quite impressive. Our bartender was so wonderful. She walked us through the menu board and suggested we try the flights. 8 beers? Why not. Ended up being perfect because we tried most of the selections and did a little shuffling and picked some new favs to add to the repertoire. Disclosure: it is a brewery. Come prepared for a sour pungent smell. Entering the place, the ambiance is nice. We had come in and there were only two couples. We sat near the window where there was wooden seating because I thought it looked cool. NO, don't sit there unless you're prepared to be bothered by nats. As I said, expect this. After a bit of a wait, we got a space out back in the tent set up behind the brewery. Wish the outdoor space had been a bit warmer on a chilly evening, but was glad for the social distancing. I've been here a couple times and I've always enjoyed myself. The outdoor beer garden is great, because who doesn't like to sit outside and enjoy the weather in the summer time. In the winter, the heaters weren't working too good but it was a pandemic and they did the best they could since indoor dining wasn't allowed. They play great music, definitely a lot of sing a long songs. It's self serve. So you have to go to the bar and order your own drinks. There's a food truck that you can order a variety of empanadas from. Btw the empanadas are delicious. Not sure if my fav is the shrimp and rice one or the chopped cheese. However, they are all good.
