Red Wharf Bay / Traeth Coch in Welsh is the largest beach on Anglesey at low tide…read more At high tide it is a 5 mile walk around muddy saltmarsh shores, also through fantastic sand dunes. There are birds to be seen such as wading birds, curlew and oystercatchers. Been here a year ago in August. I can recommend it in the evening for a quiet picnic.

The food itself is fairly typical pub grub. We both went for the plaice and chips on our first visit. It was on the specials board so we were expecting good things and we weren't disappointed. The portions were large, the place moist and not oily and the chips were tasty. A retro side salad of iceburg lettuce did make me inwardly chuckle and somewhat summed up the slightly old fashioned nature of the island as a whole! On the second visit my boyfriend again went for the plaice but was less impresed this time. I tried the chicken with cheese, leek and bacon sauce, which on the whole was pretty tasteless. The jacket potato was also microwaved which was a bit of a let down. The treacle sponge we had on our first visit was tasty but obviously brought in. They have a wide and varied menu here but I'm not convinced that much is produced from scratch on the premises. If you are staying in the village of Moelfre it's a good bet at least for one night, but on the whole the food and atmosphere are a little lacking. Inside reminds me of my late nans room, pokey and full of brass-ware .. at the far back of the pub lies a more refined dining area with white table cloths. You can sit either in the pub to soak some local welsh atmosphere or retreat to the back. Arriving at 12 on the dot, already there were a couple of locals having a pint. The barman greeted us warmly and offered to bring our drinks over while we browsed the menu. Here you can choose from the seafood specials board, lunch and their everyday menu. I highly recommend anything that has fish in it as it is all locally sourced... After much oomming and ahhing I settled on the seafood linguine and my companions had the crab fishcakes. When the food arrived I was happy. The amount of seafood in my dish was incredible. Small and large prawns, salmon, smoked haddock, scallops and mussels all swimming in a sea of fresh homemade pasta... the sauce was a flavoursome creamy white broth which was not too dense. Everything just tasted so fresh , even the crab fish cakes served with homemade chips. By the time we were half way through our meal the place was full..again if you want to come here you must book to save disappointment. We saw the bartender (whom I didn't catch his name) & we had a couple of questions but he kindly answered each & every one of them. Having two vegans from my party & myself being vegetarian, the chef & bartender were helpful in providing us their options. Once we placed our order my sister brought to my attention that they open at 12 though we were inside at 11:50. It was so kind of the two gents to help us & provide us with extremely great service.
