I wanted to get a custom pendant for a wedding gift but the jewelry designer I wanted to work with had a 30-day turnaround time (it was a week before the wedding). I was scrambling to find a 3d printing or laser-cutting shop until I got on the phone with John who said that he could get it done within a couple days. I sent over the design on Sunday night, he called me Monday morning saying it was doable, and by Monday afternoon he said it was ready and I could pick it up (what?!!). When I came to the shop he showed me 4-5 different renditions of the cut wood with different thickness which I was speechless about because they were all so nicely produced, PLUS another material (I think he mentioned plastic/PVC) that looks like metal/gold that's actually more durable, which is perfect for a pendant!!! I also was able to get an incredibly quick turnaround(about a day once finalized) and flexibility as I needed my own design etched on a box I already had, not just a standard flat board. As an artist myself, I see this as a great medium to display work, and the level of fidelity captured in wood is truly amazing. The wood retains an amount of natural aesthetic as the burning-in process has slightly varied depth depending on the woodgrain and it really added to my illustration.
