Rant about H&R Block - My Dad (retired, lives on his military pension) used their service to file…read morehis taxes and now received an audit notice from CRA because H&R Block claimed moving expenses that were not eligible. When my Dad went in to discuss the situation, the Tax/Expert Specialist told him that "they were only human and humans are allowed to make mistakes". My rant is this - the whole marketing strategy around H&R Block is to hire professionals to make sure this type of thing doesn't happen. If my Dad had a friend, or did his taxes himself, okay tough luck which is why you SHOULD hire an expert. BUT he didn't, he hired H&R Block and their 50 plus years of tax experience because honestly - who isn't a little afraid of the CRA? I'm truly upset by their lack of ownership and accountability or willingness to stand behind their business's services/reputation and make things right. My Dad didn't make a mistake, H&R Block did. Now, he's being audited for the last two years, with no offer of assistance or guidance from H&R Block. He got the brush off and shown the door. Does everyone make mistakes? Yes. That said, I can't help but feel that when you're business promotes that likelihood, which is why you should use their service to avoid that, they should step up and correct their error. The lack of support for a service he paid for, from a company that we've come to trust, is really, really disappointing.
