Small quiet classic cafe gazing over a beautiful stream with exceptional food and service defines this place. Originally started in 1927 I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in the door at the antique nature of the cafe. I visited The Busy Bee Cafe after I had been camping, fishing and hiking for two days. As you can imagine I was starving for real hot food and tasty coffee, and that's exactly what I got. I love the location and historic building on one of the most remarkable small town Main Street this country has to offer but I must say I had such high hopes and anticipation as a Longmire fan who visits Buffalo and Longmire Days few times because of the Longmire connection and the authors obvious fondness of the place but the menu and food is non-impressive the same run of the mill (and honestly a bit limited in selections) Cafe food. Nothing positive spectacular stands out about this place other than the Longmire Connection. However negatively the prices stand out 9.99$ for an average at best BLT with not special bells or whistles seems steep to me. I live on the east coast so I more often than not find the prices west of the Mississippi cheap for food from fast/casual to fine dining so I feel like for me to ding a place in the west for cost it must be a little out of line. I've paid 12$ for a fresh caught that morning Lobster tail BLT so a regular ole nothing special BLT for 10$ seems a little overpriced(especially in WY where meats aren't the premium but rather the abundance) Disclaimer: I was there during the Longmire Days festival and I will admit the menu pages liked fresh and new so maybe they jacked the prices up for Longmire Days knowing folks will gladly flock in due to the constant reference of the Busy Bee. However if that is the case I'm torn because from a business perspective I understand the price gouging but I don't like the fact they'd be so cut throat because you want to envision and believe and know this quaint little cafe on the quaint little main drag that is revered (in Longmire books and show) for being quaint and quintessential I just don't feel as much as the Busy Bee is mentioned that's very grateful acting toward the fans who want to come there out of fan nostalgia because the reality is the author could have envisioned and been inspired by his local little cafe but given it another name in his books. read more

Real "foodies" be warned, you won't be impressed with the culinary offerings at The Busy Bee Cafe. I decided to give The Busy Bee Cafe a second try, but nothing convinced me to increase my rating. I ordered pancakes and hash browns. The pancakes were underwhelming; thin (as opposed to light and fluffy), dry, overcooked and lacking much flavor. The hash browns didn't pack much of a punch in the flavor department and tasted like they were on the opposite end of the freshness scale. My wife ordered an omelette, which she chose not to finish due to its lack of appeal. I tried a biscuit as well, but couldn't make it past a single bite because it tasted like flour paste. The cafe itself has a fun vibe to it that goes along with the old, small town main street feel of downtown Buffalo. The view of the creek is great. The service was acceptable (not great, but I think that had more to do with our waitress having too many tables). Our waitress was warm and friendly, if a bit on the flighty side, but you could tell she was genuinely trying to provide us with good service and a positive experience. All in all, if you are looking for a fun, small town dining experience with a nice view and friendly staff, as long as you are okay with mediocre food, this may be the place for you. read more

This is not a good place to eat. The restaurant was very small. The owner was rude to the employees and complaining to the customers. The employees were new and not trained yet. I have a severe shell fish allergy and asked for my food to be cooked separate and the owner did not seem to care. As I started eating my food I started having an allergic reaction to my food. My husband & I biked into town from the KOA campsite & decided to grab dinner. We needed s place where we could eat & see our bikes which there were not many places. Busy Bees looked nice but I should have looked closer at their menu before we sat down & stayed. The menu & lack of people should have been my first clues that this might not be a great place to eat. The waitress was nice but seemed preoccupied with closing duties, I'm gluten free which is why I should have honestly just left after the waitress had no idea what gluten free was. I kind explained the big thing was wheat, ie bread, hoping for some suggestions. I decided to not get a salad as my main course and get s steak with potatoes a salad an fruit. I asked for the gravy on the side as it has flour most likely. Our meals came out easily 25 mins later, with out my husbands beer and gray all over my dish. I scraped it off the steak which was easily 40% fat & my husband eat my potato & I had his fries. The salad, I'm not sure where they got their veggies but wow McDonald's has better salad. The dressing was great though. We never got refills on our water and when as about dessert we said no. The waitress had turned around the closed sign earlier during our stay which didn't help either. I ordered the onion rings for 6.00 and got 6 rings that were cold and greasy. Hubby said cup of chili tasted like it came from a can. No flavor at all. While traveling I stopped in Buffalo, Wyoming for the night. Of course I picked a Sunday when most everything was closed, there were even older gentleman sitting on chairs outside closed shops reading a book...now that was kind of cool to see. However, I noticed a little place on the corner that was open and decided to stop by. Even though there was no one in the Busy Bee that made it easy to pick a table to enjoy a meal. Absolutely disgusted by the service we had today. Younger girl came up to our table with an attitude rolling her eyes. Not attentive at all didn't have utensils napkins or refills until after we got our food and didn't check on us but that one time. Then to top it off I had my 4 month old baby and she got hungry so I nursed her with a nursing cover over her so NOTHING was exposed, our waitress had the nerve to roll her eyes at me and shake her head in disgust. I will NEVER come back here again and we were loyal customers. Stopped over in the charming town of Buffalo for a pit stop on our cross country adventure today. Decided on Busy Bee Cafe. The place had charm and the food was actually pretty good...however the server there was SO COMPLETELY rude that we actually ordered our food to go because she made me and my three young girls feel SO uncomfortable! Literally said no more than two words and basically threw our menus down on the table. The place is small and I watched her throw attitude towards other customers as well. She was the only person there...and seemed to hate her job. I've never felt so uncomfortable in a restaurant in my entire life! I wasn't going to leave her any tip and was contemplating telling her off...however I decided instead to show my young daughters a lesson in humanity. I left her a tip and bit my tongue. After driving for hours from Cody, we were looking for a decent meal that didn't consist of a gas station hot dog. We would have felt more welcome at the gas station. Food was average. Service was pathetic. One of our group's BLTs lacked any lettuce and the server actively ignored our attempts to get her attention. We had to flag down a different server. Ours not once returned to refill our water or ask how we were doing. When we asked if breakfast was still being served, she responded with a semi-bellowed, "NO." The check was literally tossed at us. This place is wonderful! From the outstanding service to delicious food at a fair price, this place is a must when you're in Buffalo, Wyoming. The menu is priced well and the portions are plentiful and with fresh brewed coffee, you'll always have a steaming cup in front of you. I only stopped in for breakfast, but this place is open until 8pm everyday. I only wish I'd stopped in for lunch to see what else they had to offer! This place is attached to the Historic Occidental Hotel, and owned by the same gentleman. We were only traveling through Buffalo, but this place was quite the find. I have lived in Buffalo for 2 years and not been to this restaurant yet! My girlfriend and i decided to give it a try after all the local rave. It took over an hour to get our overpriced sandwiches. My girlfriends chicken sandwich was so dry she couldn't swallow it and had no flavor. The waitress asked us if we wanted drink refills and when she returned, as my girlfriend was about to put the straw in mouth she realized it was not her cup as the straw had been chewed. After a complaint to the manager, her uneaten food was comped as the drink. This was the 1st and last time we visited. read more

The only reason I'd give this restaurant a 2 is because of the good gluten-free flatbread as someone who has a gluten-intolerance. Otherwise, the waitress was less than personable -- if you want Midwestern or Southern-like hospitality, I would highly encourage you to go elsewhere. The restaurant was small, which wouldn't have been an issue except they told people to go to the bar next door that shared the same kitchen and then walked away without showing those customers the direction, or even apologizing that the cafe had 12 odd tables. We were checked on maybe once by our waitress, and every other time had to go get her to take our order or get our check.
