The burger is so good. I first tried it at the Foodhallen and was excited to come to the real place. The first time I came it was fine. The fries are nothing special. You are there for the burger. The second time I came, I was very disappointed. I ordered on the screen and customized my burger with extra avocado (which you pay extra for). They didn't add the avocado. There's beer on the menu just not on the screen where you order so you have to talk to them if you want beer. You can order sodas etc. on the screen where you order food. The place where you wait for your order gets really congested because there might be people sitting there. It's not an ideal design so just be ready to be pushed around by other people waiting for their food. read more

I was debating between a one and two rating here but overall the food was not good. The only thing I'd order again were the sweet potato fries. The food was ok in the moment given we were starving, but the service was terrible (I don't think it was just the Dutch culture either) The employee taking orders was rude and didn't understand any questions we were asking. We saw numerous people have issues with the employees service and problem solving as well. For example, it's listed as well done for the burgers but we never mentioned or asked how we wanted them cooked. We also didn't know a simple ketchup with fries would be charged and we went to exchange the mayo because we wanted ketchup instead and the employee looked at me like I was crazy and told me to order more if I need more. The smashburger was ok, but too much bread for that much burger. The thicker burger was a bit burnt and just wasn't as juicy as I would've expected. The sweet potato fries weren't even ready when our order was called and then it took another minute or two for them to get handed to me after they were packaged. The kitchen wasn't communicating at all. But they were tasty. The aesthetic is pretty terrible with all stainless steel everything, right next to an open kitchen. Honestly, I did not dine inside of The Butcher. I was staying at the W Amsterdam and they have the option to get take out from there until 11PM. I don't ever really expect much from in room dining or take out. But I was very pleasantly surprised when this showed up at my door. Good enough in fact that I would definitely go into the restaurant one day to give it another try. I got The Butcher with cheese, fries and a vanilla shake. The burger was juicy and delicious. Perfect medium if I've ever seen one. I liked the toppings. Having that big pickle on there actually made me like the burger even more. The fries were ok. I really don't know why this place is so highly ranked. All of the issues that I'm going to bring up all have nothing to do with one another; it was just straight up madness. To start, the were slow, which is fine if they were busy. They were not. There was 2-3 orders ahead of us. It was just a few people. When ordering the chicken sandwich, he asked how well we wanted it cooked. I dunno?? How about all of the way through?? They also way under cooked two burgers (they were basically raw, like raw-raw), but they claimed to have cooked them to order even though (in thinking back to the ordering process) they didn't ask us how it should have been cooked. We hate to send the burgers back Brecht it felt too unsafe to eat. Like who sends food back at was effectively looks like a fast food joint?? They CONSISTENTLY were handing out the wrong orders to us -- mixing up the order numbers and calling out the same order number several times for different food items. They forgot to give both of my friends their ordered drinks. And when they were finally given, they gave the wrong drinks, even though they were reading the order off of our receipt. In observing them work, literally no one seemed like they knew what they were doing. I couldn't tell if the entire team was high or confused or just plain dumb. This was such a bad experience that your couldn't even get mad, oddly enough. I'm honestly **not mad**; just incredibly confused. I feel like I walked into another world. It was so bad, I, honest to God, felt like this was a huge joke someone was playing on us. It was so bad, it felt like the open kitchen was the set of a tv show. Even as I write this, I can't be mad. I'm still in shock as to how bad the whole experience was. I always thought weird things would happen on a trip to Amsterdam, but I didn't think it would have happened like this. So good, we ended up going back twice in the 2.5 days we were in Amsterdam! There's a couple of locations around Amsterdam. This one is closer to Central Station and it was close by to the canal tour that we took. I opted for the Daddy Burger (230g of prime Aberdeen Angus beef topped with melted Edam cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon, BBQ sauce & grilled onion.) Oh boy I don't think I have ever inhaled a burger faster than that. The burger is cooked a perfect medium-rare and holds its shape. The meat is great quality. I added some extra Butcher sauce and it was delicious. Everything is reasonably priced. The workers here were great to talk to. They gave us great recommendations for not only burgers, but also things to go see and do in the area. read more

We ate across the street at an Irish restaurant the day before with much better fries and they didn't charge extra for condiments. That having been said...This is a solid burger joint with industrial deco specializing in all kinds of great ways to dress a burger. We ordered two Daddy Burgers with cheese, bacon and bbq sauce. They ask how you would like your burger done and cook according to individual taste. This is good. Fries cost extra and are steak fries, so thick-cut. Also good. We also had an oreo cookie milkshake, a generous portion and very good. One of us also tried the (vegan) quinoa salad with avocado and feta. The feta was either subtle or missing but it was still very good. We ordered inside and they bring the food to you when it's ready. Service in general was really fine. We sat outside on the benches (there are four at the moment due to Corona restrictions) at an entertaining and busy intersection. It was an overall great break from walking around a big city. My review is focused solely on the food: this is a quick service diner/burger spot, and the burger wrap I had called the Ugly was an amazing send-off to a very long day when I desired quality food at 12:30am. I had a side of popcorn chicken which was white meat chicken breast fried like a nugget as well. The boozey milkshakes caught my eye, but I did not get one. Note that the environment is meant to be QSR and is not the most comfortable. My brother and I had both the Cowboy, a great burger with jalapeño and amazing beef. The place offers cold Heineken and a local craft beer which is pretty good if you like Indian Pale Ale. They take a bit of time for preparing the burgers but it's definitely worth it as the beef patties taste marvelous! Be aware that they prepare the beef quite raw so when you bite it it's very juicy and still kinda bloody inside. Our last night in Amsterdam my boyfriend and I were absolutely exhausted so we decided to order in to our hotel. I ordered a Butcher Burger, fries and a soda. He ordered the Butcher's wife's Chicken Sandwich with no tomatoes, bbq sauce on the side, fries and a soda. The food came fairly quickly but was decently cold. My boyfriend's sandwich was just chicken on bread, they took off everything! There was no bbq sauce and no fries for either of us. I called the restaurant within 2 minutes of the driver leaving to ask about the fries. The employee on the phone claimed delivery was closed for the night but that in the morning the manager would refund me my money. Since then, no money and no contact. I've tried emailing but I get a generated message saying they'll get back to me. I'm very disappointed with both the food and customer service. read more
