I've been meaning to try the butcher block for quite some time, because I love the idea of having a good local butcher. The biggest knock against the butcher block is that they are not open on Sundays. I usually BBQ the most on sundays and like to buy my meat fresh, so that's why it took me so long to come here. I went in after work this week and picked up a couple of new york steaks. The owner was kind enough to cut them fresh for me at a custom thickness because there were none in the cooler. The steaks themselves were really good, but could have used a little more marbling... I couldn't see them before ordering because they were custom cut, but if I could do it all over again I likely would have gotten the rib eyes because I like a little more fat in my steak. All in all, I can't wait to go back and get brisket and ribs this summer, because those are my favourite cuts of meat and they are rarely present at grocery stores. It's great to have a local butcher who can provide the rarer cuts of meat on demand. read more

I only just started using this place very recently, and I've gotten fantastic service each time I went. The selection is a little spartan, but I would much rather have a butcher that does a few things well than a lot of things poorly. My first trip here was kind of an emergency; I needed 4 top sirloin steaks for dinner with old friends, and all the regular grocery stores seemed to be sold out of their thicker cuts. The Butcher Block had some picture perfect top sirloin right in the front counter, and it was cheaper than Save-On-Foods! The second time I went there was when I wanted to grill some burgers, but I wanted them to be special, I wanted to grill them medium-rare; the only way to do that safely is to have meat ground to-order, which The Butcher Block was more than happy to do for me. read more

I called in a couple days early as I wanted to do braise a pork belly. I have never bought pork belly before and explained this on the phone to them. The person on the phone explained the cut to me in more detail so I could make a good judgment on the size I wanted. I wanted only a pound and and wanted to pick it up by noon two days later and they said it was no problem. I arrived at around 1 p.m. on the day of pick up and it was neatly cut, wrapped and waiting in the cooler literally with my name on it. The cut was fresh and exactly what I needed. I have tried to shop here twice... both times the staff were INCREDIBLY rude. On both visits I left without purchasing anything. The first time was because they barely had anything in the store, and wouldn't cut any new meat for me (isn't that the job of a butcher??). Horrible little store. I will never return. read more

The butcher has always been very helpful and able and willing to bring in unusual cuts when ordered ahead of time. Product has been of good quality. I have been there and they not have the cuts I want, he has always given me a time I can come back, usually within an hour and he will have them ready for me. I am a frequent customer and consistently pleased with the quality of meat (typically I get beef or bison). It is far better than grocery store meat (& I would assume freshness has something to do with it, as despite giving the impression of cutting their own virtually all grocery stores do not any longer and have it shipped in which makes sense to keep their prices low). The store is clearly busy too, which is a good sign that product is turning over quickly which is also good for local farmers (& the local butcher). On days when I arrive late and there is nothing left in the display, the butcher is always happy to cut more and there is something cool about getting a 'fresh cut' of meat the size I want. Lastly, he has a number of local products (pierogis, burgers, and condiments (try them!!)). Overall, great locally owned business that proudly supports other local small business and farmers. read more

By far the worst meat I have ever gotten back ever, and expensive as well $350 to process 1 deer (55lbs) that I had already de-boned myself. I really wish I would have saved myself the money and just fed it to my dogs in the first place. The garlic sausage is full of fatty chunks more than any store bought pork sausage I've even seen. I also tried two different types of pepperoni that I still have no idea what they are supposed to be they have the consistency of a pate almost. Overall it is the worst and most expensive meat I have ever had and will never return, but if your looking for VERY expensive high quality dog food then this is your place. read more

We've purchased items numerous times over the last few years for BBQ or cooking. Overall we be found it inconsistent with the quality of the beef. Sometimes the beef is excellent and other times terrible. Paying a premium for steaks or beef ribs it has overall not met our expectations as we never know what to expect. Owners attitude seems also inconsistent when we mention our concerns. Some of the independent products they offer are excellent (jam, etc) but we will not go back for our next beef meal. read more

Incredible tasting meat, even the items that are pre-seasoned. The owner/butcher, is wonderfully pleasant to deal with and has no problem with making special cuts not normally available at decent prices. The store is small, but extremely clean. Will definitely be back! read more
