The Butcher Shoppe is a staple in Chambersburg, PA. I have been coming here since childhood and I never fail to marvel at everything that is available. Obviously, you can buy just about any kind of meat you're looking for: beef, chicken, veal, etc., but you can also buy super fresh seafood, deli items, bakery items, hoagies, salads, pre-made meals and much more. The Butcher Shoppe has a partnership with Falafel Shack, a popular restaurant in downtown Chambersburg, so you can find their heat-and-serve individual meals in the refrigerator case. Each and every staff member is helpful and greets you with a smile, from the butchers to the check-out associates and baggers. When asked what to get at The Butcher Shoppe, I often tell folks that everything is good, and it's true. I don't think I've encountered one item in my lifetime of visits that I didn't enjoy. Even though it's gone through a few upgrades over the years, there is always a great sense of nostalgia each and every time I step foot inside the store. Nice place for unique items not easily found elsewhere such as homemade baked goods and other things more aligned with the culture of the area that supermarkets don't carry. Sub sandwich area looks good if you eat ultra processed cold cuts. Fish and meat prices are absolutely nuts, way too expensive! In today's world its hard to know if the fish in any market, this one included, is "fresh" as most is previously frozen then sits in its thawed out state in the market's case on ice. My bet is here the fish is also previously frozen. Meat is also very very expensive. The filet Minion is so expensive it's not even on display, it's more than $28/Lb when I asked. There is a nice coffee shop inside as well. Nice place to relax and enjoy some food and drink. This place is way too expensive for my budget but seems good if you can afford it. Bottom line - Good place for certain shoppers and people who can afford it. Not for me. read more

Very nice small business store that sells fresh food. They make amazing fresh subs and pizza that you can customize, or pre-made ones you can grab on the go. The store sometimes has free sample of food they sell, along with having prepackage food for an easy quick snack or supper. They have an excellent Italian pasta salad and macaroni salad. The customer service is amazing and always helpful. They have a small cafe for a nice small place to meet up with friends, or getting some work done. My grandfather owned a small, corner grocery store outside Philadelphia when his family immigrated from Italy. Although I never had to chance to see it myself, I have heard stories growing up about it; loved in the neighborhood, offering things you just can't find in big chain grocery stores these days. When I walked through The Butcher Shop, I felt as though this is exactly what my Grandfather's store used to be. I don't have enough good things to say about this place. Coming from an area that only has chain grocery stores, I've never seen such a variety of homemade, comfort food type items. Everything has the ingredients listed right on the packaging; no artificial additives or flavorings, complete transparency - as though your mom made it right out of her kitchen. There is a huge variety, too. All different types of salads, side dishes snacks, sandwiches, wraps, pizzas, etc. Whatever you're in the mood for, I'm sure you'll find it here. The people working here are nicest, most genuine people will encounter. They stopped whatever they were doing to give me a hand. The butcher shop section is AWESOME! so many options! We also hit the deli for chicken salad, Cole slaw, beef sticks, and a few other items. Also got the homemade chicken pot pie, and chicken rice soup for my gluten free babe. Lol. It was very clean..I didn't feel like I needed a shower afterwards like when you leave a Walmart. Everything was fairly priced for the most part..much appreciated! If you have any kind of social anxiety or just any anxiety at all..I do NOT recommend going on a weekend. Period. Do not do it. We could barely move without someone being kinda rude like we were in the way. The lines for the deli section were kind of ridiculous..and not many people were taught to say excuse me. I just moved to the area and thought I'd check the place out. I wasn't look to buy any meats, my dad owns a butcher shop back home. The parking lot was full and at times it was hard to move around people. Certain things were overpriced, but everything is going up. Nice selection of baked good, pre-made food, or order your own hoagie. I've returned a few times and got baked goods. I'll continue to stop by and get things. We have always liked this local butcher shop and have watched it gradually grow over the years. They have a nice selection of homemade items ranging from the bakery and deli area to the wide selection of beef, chicken and seafood areas. They have an area where you can have a sandwich made to your liking and even prepare ready to cook pizza's made to order. They also appear to have quite a few local products such as honey, chocolates, sauces, marinades and even a few gift items. The store is very clean and well organized. The staff seems very friendly and willing to go above and beyond. We always visit while in Chambersburg and just wish we had one in our town. The selection is way better than a regular grocery store, the only catch is the prices are a little higher. They have a cafe attached which we have yet to try. read more

I like coming here, they make great subs! Bakery and deli are always good. I just wish they would stay open till 9:00 pm. They close at 7 and it tough getting there. They also have a café attached to the small grocery store that they have. You can get wonderful cuts of meat from a real butcher, Not the cheapest but they are good. Very community oriented family-style business which really provides good products. Produce over the summer appeared to be local, and was priced better than what I could find at grocery chains. Wonderful and delicious selection of homestyle cooked dishes of all kinds and bakery items. Use to be the best store for fresh meat and baked goods in the area. For years we would not buy anywhere else. Something must have changed. The last and it will remain the last visit, the sticky buns were stale and tough and the ground beef was so fatty that we threw it out. So disappointed. We stopped in while headed back East from the Midwest. I'm so glad we did. I had them make me a sandwich and it was really good with all fresh ingredients and plenty of toppings and meats to choose from. We also got a couple of different breads, we did feel around to get the freshest ones but they were great. My wife paired the rolls with some store made fresh chicken salad that was just fabulous. There were several to choose from and we got the dark meat "chunky" one. They also had a light- shredded breast and another that was ground. There was really a lot to choose from, we got some healthy fruit and unhealthy chips to go with our sandwiches. The staff were very friendly and we are so appreciative that we found this spot. The Butcher Shoppe holds such a special place in my heart. I live two hours from here but growing up my grandparents lived in Chambersburg. Whenever we would visit them over 25 years ago they would serve us food and treats from here. They shopped here often over the years and they would even take us to pick things for ourselves. It was such a treat!! The place has changed quite a bit over the years as they have added on and improved. I could never list all that they offer...baked goods, candy, salads, fruit, vegetables, soups and lunch meat. They have a huge fresh meat and seafood section. They have also added a few aisles that carry regular shelf stable grocery items. They prepackage some of their soups and salads so you can just grab and go. They also have a deli counter where you can specifically order all that you want. Probably my favorite thing in the whole place is their sugar cookies. They are absolutely delicious...fresh, moist and just perfect! My grandparents have been gone for awhile now but every couple of years we make a trip up here just to visit special, memorable places to us and this is first on our list!! read more

I read all the reviews and can only surmise this is a good place for Chambersburg. I was not impressed. Went here for fresh veal and lamb. They had neither. We tried several of the "homemade" grab and go. Check the dates. We got broccoli soup, meatloaf and mashed, macaroni salad and more. It tasted like hospital food. Edible, but not good. I decided on the Greek salad, added chicken, a mixed fruit container, and mini pumpkin whoopee pies (by the register they sell a small portion, which is a perfect amount of sweet without killing the calories).
