Update to my review more than a year ago. I've been here twice this year and there are reasons it's not more often. Both visits showed me business has slowed. I'm guessing some of what I experienced both times this year may be a factor for others as well. Overall this is a nice locally owned restaurant. I like to support local business when I can. But what I encounter here prevents me from doing so often. The big issues are the elderly woman who seems to be the primary server as she appears to be here all of the times I've been here. She's abrupt, seems passive aggressive. I'm afraid to ask for what I want, such as no oil on my perfectly good green beans that they screw up by putting oil all over, with garlic. I just wanted healthy green beans, not oiled up ones. She seemed to be very bothered or get mad. Then the passive side cones out when she says the worn out server talk of wishing me a nice day when I pay the bill. Ironically their vegetarian menu item is three sides (veggie choices that they already have oiled up or you get steamed. Don't ask for the green beans without the oil, the server told me she doesn't know how the cook makes them, he just does it the way he does. Not exactly what I'd expect or want to hear. I'd expect an answer that would be something along the lines of asking the cook not to do the oil, just steam or cook in water instead. Nope, not here. Not a vegetarian or vegan friendly place at all. Too bad, since it's in an area of farms and likely has people shopping at farm stands who might stop for a bite too. The "haddock" looked and tasted more like flounder or tilapia to me (see pic). But it was good and baked without oil or butter as I asked. I asked for lemon and got two small slices. Not enough for the fish let alone for the two veggies, and the unsweetened ice tea i ordered as well. This place has promise and the food is mostly good but some more customer friendly changes should be made, including not being so skimpy on the lemon. I gave just 3 stars this year because the other 2 were when I had a much younger more accommodating server who made my meal eating a good experience unlike this and my last visit. read more

If you like mashed potatoes made with real potatoes, then you won't like their fake mashed potatoes (aka instant mashed potatoes) at this restaurant. They also cut corners by serving small servings of their food!! read more

Went to their Easter Buffet. Food was mediocre. Not bad, but bland . Waitress was very nice. Made a reservation but had to wait almost 30 minutes to get seated . That typically wouldn't have been an issue, but my husband is disabled and not able to stand long periods. To make it worse, I told them this when I called in for the reservation. I watched them seat multiple people over us. Always like to try new places, so I'm glad we tried it, but this was my first and last try here. read more

Always been very good food with generous portions! The service has been excellent. Their turkey is freshly cooked everyday.

We came here for breakfast and were not disappointed!! They have a nicely sized and appropriately priced breakfast menu and everything we ordered was delicious!! I had the western omlette which came with a choice of potatoes and toast. I ordered home fries and (at least in Maryland) home fries are typically diced and browned cubes of seasoned potatoes, and as you can see in the photo I did not get what I thought I was ordering (they're sliced and not crispy) but they were still decent. The staff was not all that friendly in my opinion and that could be improved. (We had no silverware and after waiting for at least 5 minutes with our food getting cold we asked a random server for some. She looked at my waffle and goes "oh come on just pick it up with your hands" it might have been a joke but she never laughed or anything and considering it was our first time here, I also had an omelette, and we had been waiting for a long time to get the silverware it was kind of off-putting. We were both like what the heck?) But overall I would definitely return when in the area as it was the exact kind of place we were looking for. read more

I've never experienced such food as at The Family Table. I was staying in the area to babysit and asked about the place. They were never there but were willing to try. OMG were we correct in the choice. It was Friday night at around 4:30 when we arrived and the place was about 25% filled. We were quickly seated and served our beverages. The waitress was quite helpful in guiding us through the menu and there were a dozen nightly specials in addition to the large menu. We ordered a meatloaf dinner, a turkey dinner and a cheeseburger with waffle fries (the biggest I've ever seen). All the food was delicious and we had no room for the dessert specials of pie and apple crisp. The amazing thing was that the bill was under $30 dollars. I will return there when return to the area. My family ate at the family table 2 weeks ago. I ordered the chicken and waffles. The menu said roasted chicken with homemade gravy. I asked the server if it was true. She told me that the chicken was pulled apart and added to the gravy. That was exactly how I wanted it. Well when my meal came it was not like that. It was breaded chicken tender cut into 4 pieces and gravy out of a jar. The chicken tenders were so hard I could not put my fork in it. The gravy was extremely salty. I ate about 2 bite and could not eat anymore. I asked the server why it wasn't like she told me it was to be like. She said that she is to serve whatever she is given and not question it. She took $5.00 off of my bill. This was the second time we got horrible meals there. Needless to say we will not go there again. read more

My in-laws were visiting from Philadelphia, we had a large party and as we were sitting two other large parties came in between 9 and 13 people in each party. The waitresses were patient, the atmosphere was family oriented, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The breakfast food was fast and fantastic plus they sell local meats. We came to The Family Table on their AYCE Seafood night. The crab legs were decent, not watered down at all. There were a lot that had the "brown" on them which I personally don't care for. They had fish (Haddock I believe) that was broiled. It was very good and flaky, although a bit under seasoned. Once you added some salt, that helped. They offered peel and eat shrimp and fried shrimp. Both were very good. The peel and eat were super easy to peel. Some other items included chicken breasts, fried oysters, fried clams, harvest beets, coleslaw that was very good, Mac and cheese, green beans, Maryland crab soup, rolls and dessert. You could also order a salad that they brought out to you. I actually had a salad and it was good and fresh. The green beans were very bland. Which was surprising since it had pieces of ham in there. The staff was very friendly! They definitely went out of their way to make sure you had everything you needed. So this place was decent for the area. I think if they work on their seasoning and perfect that, then they can be very successful! read more

MMMMM MMMMMM GOOD!!! A coworker and I had to go to the Fort Louden area for work and needed to find a place for lunch once we got to the area. Tried this place and was not disappointed! Food was DELICIOUS and I could barely decide because both the breakfast and lunch menus offered so many scrumptious sounding options. Ended up getting the Turkey & Filling platter with mashed potatoes and Lima beans (I know a lot of people don't love them but I do and it was one of the vegetables of the day). My coworker had the bacon cheeseburger and it looked delicious. In addition to the great food, Amber was our server and she was very sweet and attentive. There was another lady working who was also very sweet and you can tell that it is a very friendly environment with great staff. The restaurant was decorated nicely and very clean. I adored it. I wish I needed to go back but we are almost 3 hours away! Hmmm....road trip?? read more

We have been here three times. The first time we had a good time and the food was good. We got all you can eat crab legs. They were clean and full. The second time we went for the AYCE seafood night. It was so crowed in there, and the other patrons were so rude you could not enjoy yourself. Finally we went this past Friday for AYCE crab legs. I mean they really give you everything that you get on the seafood buffet night, but brought to you you table. We had the same waitress we had the first time we went there. She was very nice the first time we were there, but not this time. On this occasion she was very short with us and a little nasty. The crab legs this time were junky (brown, soft and not very much meat) and they did not give you many on each plate. They also got more salty with each plate we got. The steamed shrimp were not good.. The first set of fried oysters were good but the second was half raw. I think that was to keep you from wanting more. Also when I was checking out to pay the waitress made some cross comments. The one waitress ask me if I got full of crab legs and the other one our waitress said I ought to be full.. You do not offer a AYCE buffet and tell some one you ate to much. I had around 6 or 8 clusters of crab legs over the whole time we were there, which the quality went down each time. No refills either for my wife. This person was given a 25 dollar tip the first time, and got a 15 dollar tip this time. I don't think she deserved it.. We will not return read more

We have eaten at the Family Table several times since it took over The Hickory Ridge restaurant in St. Thomas, Pa. We do not care for seafood so we can't comment on that. Every meal we have had has been delicious and well proportioned. We never leave hungry. The wait staff has always been very pleasant and helpful. This place never disappoints! The restaurant is clean and well decorated, food is delicious, and the portions are very generous! I've had the Chesapeake burger, the chicken Monterey and the chicken Chesapeake. All of which I was impressed with. The sweet tea is very good and you have to try there homemade pies! The strawberry pie and the peanut butter pie are my favorites! The only issue I have with this restaurant is that it needs to be closer to my house! read more
