Our cabin was clean, (we were in the Sparrow) the bathroom was clean, and the bed linens were especially fresh. This was much appreciated due to the times we are in. The fireplace was nice and hot! We had a small issue with the stairs of the cabin and maintenance came right away, and worked hard and quickly to fix it. Our five day visit was right after Christmas, so while it was very cold, it was still wonderful to get away. I recommend that if you plan to stay more than a night or two, to get a cabin with a kitchen (as many of local places are either closed or complicated due to COVID). There is a small "store" for things you might have forgotten, along with local eggs and cheese. We bought their meats and soaps to take home upon check-out. I love their soaps! I had a very serious problem with this property in that they acted dishonestly and overcharged me. I booked through Booking . com, and it clearly stated that it was a non-refundable reservation and the total would be $135. No additional fees or charges were disclosed anywhere on the page for this property. However, when I clicked the button to book, I got a credit card alert that $163 had been charged to my credit card. I got a long message through Booking . com from the property, and buried in there in noted I had been charged a "$28 cleaning fee for a medium sized cabin". I sent a message back saying that I had been overcharged as this cleaning fee was not disclosed anywhere on the property's page on Booking . com and I had not consented to it. They stated that it was but they could ask Booking and Priceline to "make it more prominent". However, this was untrue at least as to Booking - it is no where at all on the page. They tried to unilaterally cancel my reservation without my permission with Booking.com, sending them a message saying I had engaged in "guest misconduct" and had "yelled" at them. I had not been a guest yet and never spoke to them, nor did I send any messages that could be interpreted as "yelling". (I found this out later when I called Booking.com.) I had only asked for a refund of the overcharge. I explicitly told them several times via Booking.com messages that I didn't want to cancel my reservation, I was just contesting the extra money they charged because it was not disclosed. However, I got notification that they refunded the entire amount of the charge, although I still had an active booking. I contacted them explaining that I did not cancel the reservation and was happy to pay the agreed upon amount of $135, and asked them to confirm that I still had a reservation. They never responded. I had two long phone calls with Customer Service at Booking . com, and the property would not respond to them either. After hours on the phone with Booking. com, they helped cancel the reservation. Booking . com confirmed that this property did not disclose a cleaning fee anywhere on their page. At any rate, the behavior on the part of this property was dishonest and unprofessional. I do not know about how the property is, but I am very concerned about how they behaved during the booking process. Honestly, if the property had just responded to my initial complaint about the overcharge and admitted they made a mistake in not disclosing the cleaning fee ahead of time, I would have just paid it. My main concern is just that this property not continue this practice of charging customers for fees that are not disclosed ahead of time. I am worried that this property has my credit card and other personal information now, as whoever I was communicating with is definitely dishonest and seems like he/she is either mentally unstable or just a scammer. I've got to be honest, I do not understand the bad reviews of this place at all! We thought everything about The Cabins at Healing Springs was wonderful! We definitely plan to go back. We booked the Treehouse and it was a perfect "glamping" feel. I mean this in the best way when I say we weren't expecting much going into it and it fit everything we were looking for. We didn't want to go camping but we also didn't want to pay every dollar we had and this was perfect. We booked last minute on Airbnb - 3pm the day before arrival - and had absolutely not issues. The Treehouse is this cute little one room house up a flight of stairs. It has its own bathroom, which is a plus. Going in, we planned to make some foil dinners down on the camp fire. We forgot a lighter to start a fire and the owner, Anne, went out of the way back across the property to grab some matches for us to use. In the morning, we had a little accident and spilled coffee on the bed and when sharing the accident with Anne, she was so wonderful and understanding! We also bought some of their fresh produce - ribeye, sirloin, and a tenderloin. Made them this weekend and they were wonderful. If you are looking for a quaint little spot that won't break the bank - ignore the other Yelp reviews and give them a visit. We definitely plan on going back!! read more

VERY poor customer service. We came into town for a friends wedding and were very eager to stay in this beautiful location. However, upon arrival we were told that we weren't able to stay in the cabin we booked because we had three guests instead of two. It was my husband, my 9 month old baby and myself. She was counting our baby as another adult guest. In all the places we stayed prior to coming to the cabins, we did not count her as another adult but as an infant. She told us that they have family cabins for children and family and that she would not be able to give us a room. As we continued to talk, I said that we would find another place to stay and would like a refund. However, she said she would not refund our deposit because it was the day of. It does say on the website that their are larger cabins for families to spread out but it does not say it is required and they will not give you another non-family cabin. Luckily, our friend's parents had an extra room at River House Inn and Restaurant and we had a FANTASTIC experience there. The Cabins at Healing Springs are BEAUTIFUL but the customer service is not. We had a wedding at River House last weekend and about half of our guests stayed at The Cabins at Healing Springs. About half of those guests had a very negative experience with mold in their rooms, at least one of whom was unable to stay in his room at all. He complained but did not receive a refund. Another guest has come down with an upper respiratory illness due to her damp, moldy room. Instead of a restorative, relaxing vacation environment, this place reminds me more of a boarding school with a strict principal. Like in the R. Dahl book Matilda. Whenever I spoke with the owner, I felt like I was walking on eggshells, and was one step away from being treated like a bad child rather than a paying customer, much less someone who was having a wedding and had invited the people she loved the most to stay under this person's roof. Instead, many of my guests and I encountered a stern, unyielding person who assumed that she was the authority on other people's personal experiences. She just told me over the phone that there is no mold in the room that my friend could barely breathe in. Though she is very responsive (i.e. answers the phone when one calls) and lives on the property, she is difficult to communicate with. She told me that babies are only allowed in the family cabins, and that in the past, a guest had tried to "sneak a baby in," which I found to be a very troubling statement. I could go on much longer about my disappointment with the Cabins at Healing Springs, but suffice it to say that I will never recommend this place to anyone ever. Some of my guests had a fine experience but the overall takeaway was a very unpleasant one as far as I'm concerned. If you have the money, stay at the River House. Gayle and the staff there are saints. They saved my wedding more than once. I also hear that the Days Inn in Jefferson is totally nice - if you are having a wedding at River House, I would recommend directing your extra guests to stay there. read more

We stayed in the treehouse and it was small and very comfortable. The owner was very friendly and gave us a lot or tips on things to do in and around the area. Its nestled in a holler with a creek running through out the property. They have community fire pits and we set and met some really nice people over a fire one night. I would highly recommend trying them out for a weekend get away. read more

Please check your banking statement if you've ever stayed here you may be like myself with unauthorized charges on your bank account. Please contact local authorities. The owner is rude and refuses to cooperate with me over a unauthorized charge to my banking. Refuses to give invoices and if by chance used booking.com she will tell you to deal with them and they are out of Amsterdam and will not comply. I paid 217 for 2 nights left at 11 pm 2nd night the place was nasty and had other guest or employees making up reviews on a Google account that had my name but never started that account. Be safe. This place is dangerous and no good. This woman is scamming people and I for one will do whatever possible to be sure she's held responsible for stealing money out of my debit card. I was booked at Healing Springs as part of a wedding party. Unfortunately, my reservation was cancelled due to a well issue. When I called to ask if there were other accommodations available - I was met with resistance and rudeness from the owner. She did not offer any alternative options or accommodations even though there were spots available in other cabins. I called three times to try to sort something out and each time found her to be anything but helpful and downright rude. Really bad customer service. In addition, the friends that did end up staying there had terrible experiences. They reported that the cabins were musty and moldy and damp. One friend ended up getting sick from the dampness and another could not stay in their cabin at all due to the mold. That friend did not receive a refund for their reservation even though they didn't end up staying there at all. Overall I would NOT recommend that anyone stay here - due to the condition of the cabins and the rude nature of the hosts. read more

I would give them 0 Stars they discriminated against me and my service animal would not allow us to come and stay there without paying a fee for her which is against the ADA. And kept telling me that she is a therapy dog not a service dog she needs to learn that the definition of therapy dog versus service animal do not stay here unless you want to be discriminated against and yes the ADA is involved. read more

NIGHTMARE FOR PET OWNERS. Found the seemingly picturesque lodge/cabins on Kayak.com, and filtered for pet friendly accommodations. The marketing represented the place as pet friendly. Paid in full online. Checked in on this holiday weekend--and my birthday--and left to hike right around 4pm. Got a call that my small English bulldog (very friendly) was barking, and I had to pay a $20 pet fee. I paid that over the phone with my credit card. Got back at 7pm. Had been gone for at most 3 hours. Saw the property managers leading my dog into the road (who was complacent and not barking). My girlfriend tried to go get the leash and was instructed to give up our cabin key. We were told we had to leave, and that at least one of the hotel guests had threatened to shoot my dog. I put my dog into the car, took a picture of the inside of the cabin door to prove no damage, quickly put our belongings to the bag, and drove off onto the dark mountain road with no new plans for accommodations given the holiday weekend. We ended up driving an hour and half through the mountains to a city in the foothills. Checked in to the Kimpton (at a significantly higher price). They gave my dog a treat, and gave us each a glass of wine. They wished me a happy birthday. I really recommend the Kimpton in Winston-Salem! read more

I have been here twice now, once staying in Barn Swallow above the main lodge, and the second and most recent visit I stayed in Whistle Pig this time with my in-training service dog for his first trip with me to the mountains/his first overall vacation with me. I absolutely love coming up here, these cabins are adorable and Whistle Pig is definitely more for a woodsy cabin experience because it's up a trail behind the hay barn which makes you feel like you're deep in the woods while still giving you the comfort and safety of being close to the other cabins, and its small and adorable and I loved it. There are cows super close and chickens roaming during the day, and Anne is always so helpful when I message her with questions. I cannot believe there are any negative reviews (most of which, to be honest, sound more like the reviewer did something wrong and is choosing to place the blame on Anne instead of taking responsibility.) This is a wonderful place run by wonderful and kind people and I will 100% be back. Anne gladly gave me recommendations for hiking/other attractions in the area and answered my questions about local sights as well. My dog and I had an amazing experience and he can't wait to come back up and watch those roaming chickens! Thank you Anne!! read more

As I escaped Charleston and the impending Hurricane Irma for my hometown, I was expecting a relaxing weekend at The Cabins at Healing Springs. After a 7 hour drive (usually 5), I arrived about 11pm. There was no heat in 'The Chipmunk' that I had reserved. However a young man assured me he was getting it repaired and proceeded to bang like hell til about 12:30am. Apparently he gave up. There was no heat either night I was there. No one checked to see if there was. I checked out Sunday morning - notified them that the storm had changed track and I'd need to head back. I told Anne this was a possibility when I checked in. Lo and behold, not only did she charge me for the $66 nightly fee for the night of banging, as well as the second night of no heat (temp was about 40 degrees), she also charged me for the night that I didn't even stay. My family is from that area - most are buried about 7 miles down the road. I spent my youth running those hills. It's a shame that we have a business like this who, not only provides the worst service possible, but also charges for a night that I wasn't even there. My wife and I and our 1 year old had a gift card for bed and breakfast.com and wanted to get away for a couple days. We love the mountains and have stayed in numerous different cabins across nc. We found this place and we were excited to stay here because the Google reviews were good and the place advertised a peaceful quiet place to stay. We went up and checked in and right off the bat we felt like it was more of a trailer park than a mountain cabin. We went to our room and even with the ac blasting, the room was so humid that the comforter/bed/towels/toilet paper felt so wet you could almost ring it out. The room had a gross wet musty smell that wouldn't go away and when we got home we could smell it on all of our clothes. The staff was working on renovating (I think) the room connected to our's & were loud and rude. We left one day and they were all out with a big German shepherd (unleashed) that upon seeing us started coming our way and one of the staff had to grab him by the collar and lead him away. We left one time and there were a few staff members shooting bb guns right across the street from our cabins where we had to go. It was just extremely awkward! During the night there was a constant stream of truckers and traffic going right by the cabin (20 feet away). The road that you stay on connects two highways together. We basically got no sleep between huge trucks and buses, and the gross dank humidity of the room. We were supposed to stay two nights there but we decided just to go home that last night instead of stay another miserable night. We looked for the staff to give them the key back and tell them that we were leaving early and they were not in the office. We couldn't find them so we dropped the key off in the Dropbox and just left. Now we're trying to get our money/gift card back and the lady that runs the place will not cooperate. She keeps saying "well you didn't come to us and tell us of all these problems while they were happening." And she's right...because we couldn't find her..anywhere! I will never stay there again and would advise as many people as possible to find a different place to stay at..there are so many other options you can go with! read more

My husband, baby and I just stayed in the duck cabin this past weekend and I must echo the other reviewers on the dirty, damp and moldy conditions. Additionally, I would be surprised if the electric is even up to code. I couldn't wait to get out of there! Very over priced and nothing "healing" about it. This past weekend, we decided to have a spur of the moment trip to the mountains. I made a reservation at this place through Travelocity probably an hour out from arriving. When you search for hotels it automatically defaults to 2 adults! I will admit my part of this error! I should have changed it BUT traveling with a 2 year old, who usually includes that? Anyway, we get there and get checked in. We have unloaded the car and it is raining. My daughter, excited to be outside, is loving playing in the rain puddles and talking to the free range chickens that live there. It's about 5 pm. The manager then comes back and talks to us to inform that there was a complaint about our daughter and that people come there alone without kids and she was loud. We had to leave the room we already paid for. She stated that she had a "family" room that could work for us. Ok then, we pack everything up and went to look at the other room. It was located directly above the office with no ac, the bathroom was actually downstairs and the only airflow you got was opening two big barn doors as windows and the door to the room to get a cross breeze. That door lead directly to the stairs. The "windows" opened from the ceiling to the floor. Completely unsafe for a toddler! We go back to talk to the manager and I specifically ask if we cancel and leave will we get our money back? Her response was, "oh yea, you will have to go back through who you booked and it won't be a problem." Ok then, we will go ahead and leave and find something more suitable for our puddle jumping, chicken talkin menace of a child! I call Travelocity within an hour and tell them what happened, they state they need to call the hotel to confirm the cancellation. They do and the manager proceeds to tell them that it is non refundable. I again tell them guy I just spoke with the manager since we were physically there and he calls again and gets the same statement. Now again, I completely understand my fault in this, what we have a hard time understanding is why tell a customer one thing and then tell someone else something different! She could have told us that to begin with but chose to lie instead! So now I have a claim with Travelocity since I did purchase the insurance and will have to wait, or dispute with PayPal or my bank! read more

Went there with a wedding party. My cabin (whistle pig) was MOLDY and sheets were damp! I self checked in late so there was no one to ask to get me another cabin. I tried to sleep in the cabin but got a massive headache from the moldy smell. I pretty much sat outside the cabin the the rest of the night till I could find some of the other wedding guests the next day, who said they were in smelly cabins as well. The office hours are from 4-8pm so I missed the desk person because I had to go to the wedding the next day. There is no cell service up there unless you have verison which I don't. I had to stay the night at a friend's rental the next night and left from there early in the morning, again before office hours. I called the office when I got home and told them I didn't even get to stay in the cabin and it was so moldy that I got a headache from being in there. The owner said she would check it out. No apology, no offer to refund my two nights stay, nothing... I believe it is pretty irresponsible to rent out cabins that have an obvious mold problem... I'd give them no stars if I could. My recommendation.... don't stay there, I know I never will again. read more
