The tasting process was super fun and easy - Leia, our consultant that day, is so wonderful, kind, and really helpful. She made us feel at ease with the entire process. Make sure that you fully read their website before - there are lots of hidden discounts that you can get just for being a good reader :) We had a few cake discounts applied, as well as free chocolate strawberries for our wedding night! Most importantly - our cake was BEAUTIFUL and DELICIOUS. I gave them 1 photo that I found online and it looked absolutely perfect...probably better than the original! It was the centerpiece of our entire wedding. People were taking photos of it all night and couldn't wait to dive in. We got chocolate cake with strawberry filling, and white cake with dulce de leche filling. Outstanding. They made a Super Mario Brothers cake for my cousin's wedding! How effin' kick ass is that? So.. first off.. I love that they're officially.. The Cake Guys. My cousin found them on The Knot because they were voted the best in the area for 2007 and 2008, but I approved of them based on their name before I even heard about their accolades. After a great consultation (my cousin being late and them letting her in anyway.. heh), she had them make both her wedding cake and the groom's cake. During the wedding, I was running around doing silly things like being the cashier for the dollar dance, so I almost missed out on cake, but I'm so glad I scrounged up a slice because it was delicious! Really really delicious. I posted pictures up top, but please go to their website. They're decorating geniuses! The groom's cake was mostly for show. It looked like a real cake but it was a molding that had ice inside. The kitchen at the venue had actual chocolate cake to be served that The Cake Guys also made. They told my cousin it'd be cheaper if they did it that way (by like 2-3X) and it worked out well. Both of the guys have day jobs so the shop is only open a few nights a week. My cousin said that they met with them once, but mostly corresponded by e-mail. The figurines on the groom's cake, my cousin's husband got off the internet but the awesomeness of the cake is all thanks to The Cake Guys! Reviewing their cakes after having a couple slices of two cakes from a recent 40th birthday celebration! Appearance & taste: 1 was a chocolate cake with a large Longhorn symbol on top! It also had chocolate covered strawberries on the sides & front of cake! Very nice looking. 2nd cake was a 3 tiered cake with the "lopsided" look, mardi gras type colors, 3 big feathers & a silver initial adorned the top. It looked great!!! I was a bit leery since it had fondant on part/ most of the outside and it was lemon flavor. Normally not my favorite flavor. OMG!! They proved me wrong! I took one bite and was in cake heaven! Please note I did NOT eat the fondant! The center ICING was DELICIOUS & the lemon cake was so MOIST! Usually I like a balanced ratio of icing with each piece/bite of cake. The Cake Guys were referred to me by my wedding planner. Chad, the owner, canceled our first appointment due to a personal matter, so I reschuled. I confirmed the new appointment date and time via email ( the only way you can contact this man because his phone numbers are not in service) and then my wedding planner confirmed the appointment with his assistant. My fiancé scheduled off work, his mother drove over an hour to join us, and Chad never showed up. We waited at the Dallas location for over 30 minutes. I emailed Chad to voice my frustration and point out his lack of professionalism and lack of consideration. He NEVER apologized. We made a tasting appointment a year ago and it was our only bridal cake tasting appointment we had because the appointment went so well. Not only was my vision quickly drawn on a piece of paper by Leia, but the entire execution was amazing. We ordered a wedding cake and a Groom's cake through The Cake Guys and it was the best decision we ever made! When I saw the cakes for the first time at the reception, I was blown away. The wedding cake was so beautiful and every single detail was of perfection. When my husband and I cut into the cake and tasted it, it was the most delicious and moist cake I've ever had in my life. This review is just for the Sample Saturday experience -- we haven't seen, received, tasted our wedding cake yet and won't until December, so my review will be updated to reflect the actual product LOL I don't know what to say about the Cake Guys except WOW. I know they're opening up a location in the Oak Lawn area in Dallas, but we were at the main location in Duncanville -- loved being able to actually see what the cakes look like, they are REALLY talented in what they can do! Now, on to the tasting -- Lord Jesus, their cake is AMAZING! Rod and I both were in hog heaven (literally) dipping and licking and tasting CAKE :-) It was fun! LOL! I liked that they left us alone, but were still available if we had any questions. I've found that a lot of places will stand over you and insert their opinion on what you should do/think, etc but our young lady didn't. She checked on us, answered questions, gave her opinion when I asked and then let us talk and discuss what we wanted together. Word of advice - read their website. Completely. They have NUMEROUS coupons available that will help you save $$$$$ on your cake. Seriously, I think we saved at least $300 on upgrades, customization and delivery just by printing coupons from the site -- AND they even have hidden coupons but I'm not going to say where, just read the site and you'll find them! The Cake Guys were amazing! From our initial tasting with them, to the night of our wedding, everything was great! At our tasting, we tried so many different flavors that it was so hard to choose which ones we wanted - they were ALL delicious! We ended up coming up with the perfect compromise for shape of our cake when we just couldn't decide and it came out more perfect than I could imagine. They talked us through each step of the process, going through all of the options for decorating and colors, etc. to find out exactly what we wanted. Their communication was great and our cake looked beautiful and tasted even better (if that's even possible) - all of our guests loved it! These guys saved our wedding and we cannot thank them enough! We were one of the couples stranded by a local bakery who closed shop and skipped town without notice back in late April 2015. With our wedding only 2.5 weeks away, we were really concerned that the cake that we planned to have would not happen because of the short notice given to us. I asked my friends and several had their weddings done by the Cake guys and they could not be happier with them. I noticed on their website that they were booked solid a month in advance, but I called in to see if there was anything they could do. They answered and stated that they were trying to help as many stranded couples as they could and that they could fit us in if we met with them to get the details all worked out. We had a meeting later that night and we were able to sleep easy knowing that our wedding would have a cake once again. They were able to make a beautiful cake exactly how my wife and I wanted it and it was absolutely delicious too. The flavors were all good (standard cake flavors) but weren't exactly what I wanted so Chad asked what flavors I would like to try and made some additional samples for me to try on a different day, which were all amazing. The Cake Guys recently opened up storefront bakery right next to their cake shop called Triple Treat. I stopped there on my way home from work the other night to see what kind of goodies they had. I recommend the caramel cream cake, lemon cake and pink cookies! It was all really good and a nice, sweet treat to help dull the pain of the Rangers losing that first game of the World Series against the Giants... I plan on going back to try the white chocolate dipped strawberries and other confections they had in the cases up front! I wish I got off work earlier so I could check out their cupcake happy hour! Wanted some cupcakes and decided to give this place a try since they aren't to far away. The store was nicely decorated. It had some cool looking cakes out as decorations and signs asking you not to touch. They had cupcakes with sprinkles on them that had either white or chocolate cake with white or chocolate icing. These are the ones eligible for the cupcake happy hour of $1 each with a 6 cupcake limit. The cake part of the cupcake was VERY moist, it was very good. The chocolate icing was lame, you could hardly taste the chocolate. The icing was light and creamy. The white icing was good, much better than the chocolate. The white cake of the cupcake was very moist and good too. They had a red Velvet cupcake it was good. I don't think I've ever tried red velvet before. I think it had a cinnamon taste to it. They also had a key lime cupcake. I didn't try it but my husband said it was very good. I also tried the chocolate covered strawberries with nuts. Those were yummy! The strawberries were plump and juicy, very good! I surely will go back but probably not get chocolate icing on a cupcake. They had several cookies out too. Those i didn't try. I'd like to try their cakes but not sure, the smallest cake is $50. I did't think to ask if they sold cake slices. Love this place. I planned my Dallas wedding from out of state and couldn't have worked (on our cakes) with anyone else. Cake Guys is so organized, thorough, and seriously has their stuff together. I read almost everything on their website, had all the coupons printed, and had even emailed back and forth with one of the owners (Chad) before my fiancee (now husband) and I went in for our tasting. I wanted to incorporate gold color into my cake without spending the extra $ for a custom cake. Chad was awesome at explaining my gold options and made several suggestions. The woman who helped us at our tasting was surprised by how organized and ready we were, but that is what made the tasting even more enjoyable: we could spend the time truly enjoying the cakes and picking details. We ended up ordering three cakes at our tasting: a 5-tier bride's cake E (red velvet), a Groom's cake C (german chocolate - if they only give you a standard chocolate sample at your tasting, ask for the german chocolate too!), and a 9 inch round white chocolate raspberry. We called that one our "couple's cake" :) After I ordered I had several questions about the size of the plates under the cakes so that I could order cake stands. I will never attempt to order anything from this company again. The owner, Chad, is incredibly rude. It's the worst customer service I've received in a long time. So I went to a search engine and typed in "the cake guys cupcakes" and it took me directly to their website where I could submit an order for cupcakes. It had a spread of all their cupcakes and at the bottom it had the submission box for the cupcakes. I put in my order the pressed the submit button and it sent me to a page that said thank you for your order. I placed the order a full week in advance. The page also said someone would contact me. I waited a few days and didn't hear back so I emailed them. I received a reply stating they don't make cupcakes anymore and I replied by saying it puts me in a bind because now I have to find someone to make them and it's short notice. I then received a message from Chad, an owner of the company. He started off by saying that it's not their error and that I should've read the FAQ or scrolled through the rest of their website. My response was why would I go to the FAQ or the rest of the site? I was taken directly to the cupcakes on their site which they FAILED to CORRECTLY update. Again, I was actually able to submit my order and it sent me to the thank you page. I also informed him I didn't appreciate the terrible customer service he was providing, especially as an owner. He then replies and says he apologizes but that I should take responsibility for my own actions. So let me get this straight...I should take responsibility for your website allowing me to make an order. He then goes on and on about how awesome the company is and that the problem with society is that people don't take responsibility for their own actions and that I should stop being so "d*** judgmental" ...then proceeds to even tell me to take a look in the mirror. WOW! Never again! Take a look at parts of the nasty emails he sent me below. "Hi! I am the owner. I apologize, but there is no error on our part. It clearly states on our website and frequently asked questions that we no longer make anything other than wedding cakes. I'm not sure how this puts you in a bind because even if we would have been making cupcakes there was a 7 day advance notice. And months ago...When we were making cupcakes, we did not keep them ready or bake them every day... Everything we do is baked fresh so I'm not sure when you needed them but if you would've needed them for this week or this weekend it would not of been possible anyways." "So you know what, just stop for a few seconds and take responsibility for yourself and try to make the world a better place instead of being so damn judgmental and negative. It's easy to run your mouth and tell somebody how horrible they are... But just look in the mirror ....you're the one who placed the order .....and you're the one who did not follow up because I never received the order and if I don't receive the order how can I make it? One thing I learned...When you are the best in the business you can also be choosy. AND WE ARE. My cakes only go to the best customers. The best cakes for the best customers." read more

UPDATE: I'm stunned! I sign into yelp and I see The Cake guys reply for the first time. I'm NOT and NEVER was a wedding planner. It makes me wonder how many cakes these guys screw up if they can't even keep them straight. I also doubt Yelp would give out my personal info. to some baker, but lying is par for the course with these guys. This reply from The Cake Guys brings me right back to what it was like to deal with them. The customer is always WRONG with them. In the grand scheme of things, nobody died. However, we paid too much (FULL PRICE, NO discount) for the wrong cake. It was the only negative thing about my wedding, but now The Cake Guys are just an old family joke to us. Ok I was disappointed cause the cupcakes for 1$ was a deal that was no more. But they had slices of cake for 2.50$ so I got the chocolate fudge cake. Man I was just taking away, first of this cake tasted like it should be in a 5 star restaurant. Man it was just so moist, the flavor got more intense as you at the end of it. Ohhhh do I have a full belly! Well I love that this place tells you to do your research and get your coupons ahead of time. You book the day of and you save a ton of money. So I would say do your cake tasting at other places first then come here with the coupons and book the same day! If you use the coupons it's definitely less than other places I've been to. Now the taste. You have to see for it yourself. I'm not a big dessert person but I like cake and I like cake that tastes amazing and even if I ate a lot I don't feel like crap afterwards. The cake here is amazing. Probably the best cake I've ever tasted BUT I felt so heavy afterwards and I didn't like that. I've had cake from other places where I've had a lot and still feel okay so that's what I am comparing it to. But definitely give them a try to see if it's for your liking! my sister placed an order for cake slices to be picked up at the Duncanville location on Saturday the 15th of March at 2:00, so I could make a choice for a wedding cake. After driving up from Waco then another hour to get to the shop to pick the order up we were told they did not have the order(after confirming 3x;s prior to Saturday pickup). I can not believe how unprofessional these people are. This was a total waste of time. If they are unable to get a confirmed order done how can you expect to rely on them to make sure you have a wedding cake for your special event. We ordered a dairy free grooms cake for our wedding, however, the cake had some dairy in it resulting in an allergic reaction for me (the groom). After trying to contact the Cake Guys multiple times over the last two months via email, text, phone call, and even stopping by their location in person and leaving a note; they have refused to return communication. We used the Cake Guys for our wedding cake and groom's cake and were very disappointed with the entire experience. I had selected my cake and had a picture before we arrived to do a tasting. It was explained that doing one of their packages would be the most cost effective way to get the cake I wanted. We selected a package and paid a $200 upcharge in order to modify the package wedding cake to look like the picture. I emailed them the picture twice and called to confirm it was received before our wedding. (I really disliked the floor model and wanted to make sure that the cake looked like the picture I brought in). Fast forward to our wedding day...the cake that was delivered...was the floor model cake. It looked nothing like the picture I sent them. Nothing. The groom's cake: we paid for strawberries to be decorated...they looked like a child made them. Sloppy and scribbled. Guests even commented on them being badly done! I woke up the day after our wedding and contacted Cake Guys. They were unapologetic and blamed a miscommunication in the shop with our contract. I had a copy of the contract...it had written all over it that we paid an upcharge and that a picture would be emailed. They credited the $200 upcharge the next week, I paid full price for the floor model that I didn't want. read more

There are simply not enough stars to give The Cake Guys the rating they deserve! After several tastings with other vendors, I was a couple months from my wedding with no cake. We set up a tasting and they took it from there! We had SO many cake options at the tasting, so we could truly get an idea of what we would be serving. Once we chose flavors, they were so helpful in sketching and designing our cakes! They tweaked until absolutely perfect. And let me tell you. These cakes were STUNNING. When I arrived at my wedding venue, they were already there setting the cakes up and putting the topper in. I actually cried when I saw them! The flavors were incredible, the strawberries were amazing and such a fun treat, and I could not have asked for better service!
