From the moment I walked in, the sweetest lady at the counter made my day by giving me a free cupcake, which turned out to be one of the best I've ever had in Dallas. the store was small but really clean and organized! Had a disappointing experience with this bakery. We originally ordered our wedding cake from here, which was pretty and delicious. Two years later, my husband decided to surprise me with the same cake for our anniversary. Unfortunately, when we sliced into it the night of, we discovered they gave us the wrong flavor--one I don't particularly like. This mistake significantly affected our celebration and we were both very disappointed. The next day, I returned the cake to explain the issue. While they apologized and offered me the correct cake, I requested a refund for the $85 we spent on the incorrect one, especially given the inconvenience of returning it and the fact that we wanted the right one for our actual anniversary day celebration. The employee indicated that "this ever happens" so she didn't know how to handle it and the manager would call me back within the hour , but after five hours without a call, I reached out myself. The manager informed me that they could either give me the correct cake or issue a refund, but not both, citing their status as a "micro bakery." Given their operation in the prime area of the Park Cities and their capacity for large orders, this reasoning felt inadequate and like an excuse. The manager then asked if we could come to a "compromise" of a few slices of the correct cake along with the refund. I then had to return yet again to the store to get refunded. While I understand that mistakes happen, this one was very frustrating, and how they responded was not appreciated . I was disappointed by their unwillingness to fully address the issue, try to resolve it and felt that better customer service should be a priority. I've never had a business ask ME to compromise when they made such a big mistake! As a result of this experience, I won't be returning or recommending this bakery. It's unfortunate to lose a customer who would've been willing to return for many occasions had they made the situation right. Also, the "compromise" slices they gave us after the refund were dry, so... 3 trips later, (again, due to their mistake) what a waste of our time and money. read more

I made a special trip to this bakery after reading great reviews online to pick up some cupcakes for my husband's birthday. This was an especially meaningful birthday since he has stage 4 cancer. I would have ordered a cake, but the smallest size was too big for just the two of us, so I opted for two cupcakes, a beautifully decorated birthday cookie, a bag of pink heart cookies, and two chocolate chip cookies. I spent $26 on what turned out to be the worst cookies and cupcakes I've ever had--even my husband commented on how stale they were. I considered calling the bakery to share my concerns, but if they don't publicly acknowledge dissatisfied customers, I don't see the point in wasting my time. Just because this bakery is in an upscale part of town doesn't mean it delivers quality. read more

How have I not reviewed Panini yet! I grew up getting my favorite Chocolate Mousse cake slices here as a kid! It is still my favorite cake of all time to this day! We used them for our wedding cake and did a tiered mousse cake of different flavors on each level (see the pics). The cake is perfectly moist with the ideal amount of sugary icing and fluffy mousse in the middle. No one else in DFW makes cakes like these! You can't go wrong for a party or wedding! Not friendly, It's a bakery that DOES NOT make ITALIAN CREAM CAKE. Even though they have an ITALIAN name. I went to the front door during regular business hours ( on a Tuesday morning around 10AM) and a woman inside has a cake in hand and says they are closed from the other side of the room, yelling towards me at the front door. So I called Panini Bakery later that day, the person who answered, says, we don't make Italian Cream Cake, but, many people have requested it, she says. As a business owner, wouldn't you look into making a cake that has been requested a few times. I've used the bakery in the past for birthday cakes and had a similar unfriendly purchase, I thought I would give it another chance. But, now I will never attempt to use Panini Bakery again. Even though it's our University Park, Highland Park neighborhood, I will not use them again. I'll try a bakery that is friendlier. read more

I'm behind on reviews but since my birthday is coming up and I decided to write a review for my favorite bakery in DFW. I simply love Panini Bakery. It smells like butter when you walk in and the store is filled with beautiful wedding cake models. I knew this was the place when I walked in for a tasting. I've had plenty of wedding cakes before and they're usually an afterthought when it comes to flavor. Sure they look nice but they're rarely delicious. You'll get a different experience with Panini because not only will the cake be picture perfect-it will taste amazing. During the cake tasting - we devoured all 6 generous slices of cake. No regrets. Our 6 tiered wedding cake was inhaled by our guest. People were confessing to us about how they came back for more. We were supposed to have extra cake leftover lol that was not the case. I've also had a birthday cake from here and it was chocolate heaven. Thank you so much Panini for existing. read more

Literally the best wedding cake ever. If you are cake people, you MUST have Sophie and her team create your wedding cake! We purposely ordered a larger cake than number of guests at our wedding so that we'd have leftovers, and to our surprise, our guests ATE EVERYTHING! We had a 4-tier bridal cake with white raspberry and toasted almond, and then a groom's cake in the shape of a vintage suitcase in chocolate/chocolate mousse and they both were equally so incredibly delicious for our October 2021 wedding!! They tasted better than in our take-home tasting! We had so many guests tell us that they "usually don't like wedding cake, but THIS ONE is SO GOOD!" Society Bakery has been my go-to for cakes the past 5 years.....until today. A co-worker's favorite cake is strawberry short cake....so I searched yelp for strawberry cakes and up popped Panini Bakery. Given the reviews, I felt ok about trying them out.....and am soooo glad we did! We got a 10" Strawberry Cream cake....I called on Friday for a cake a week out and it was no problem! Usually you need 2+ weeks notice on cakes from Society...just a tip. The cake was exactly as requested...it was FRESH, MOIST(I know that word creeps some ppl out but it WAS), and pretty! The white cake was heavenly and there were layers of fresh cream and FRESH strawberries....I know you'd think...well who could mess up white cake with cream and strawberries...but we had one from Central Market in June and it was blech. Panini is worth it for a $60 birthday cake, it just is. Do it. And save me a piece for the referral. read more

I saw the good reviews and decided to stop buy to buy a cake for my brother's graduation party. The cake feeds 30-35 people, but it cost $80. I was skeptical. The design was cute, but nothing fancy. Well, when it came time to eat the cake, it was delicious. Such a wonderful blend of flavours from the bottom of the cake to the top of the icing!! This was not our average ordinary cake. Delicious, unique, scrumptious. Everyone's taste buds were in for a surprising treat. So I give this place 5 stars. I've eaten a LOT of cake in my life, but there are only two cakes I've had that land in my nothing compares list. One is my quinceañera cake, the other is the white chocolate raspberry cake from Panini. My mom introduced us to Panini's signature white chocolate cake with raspberries made with vanilla cake, the most amazing vanilla butter cream, a light and mouth watering white chocolate cream with raspberries in the middle and white chocolate shavings on top, and my family fell in love. I picked up the cake for my folks anniversary and they did a lovely job and I swear the cake was the tastiest yet. I'd called the day before to order one, and it was easy peasy to pick up during lunch. I do want to try their chocolate cakes next, but their signature cake is just so damn delicious!! read more

My husband and I got our wedding cake here and I am so glad that we did. They were wonderful at helping me plan my cake and sketch out something fun. I went into the shop not knowing for sure what I wanted and left falling in love with my design. I'll admit I was terrified to see it the day of my wedding, but I was so proud and happy of how it turned out. Even better - it tasted amazing. We went for two flavors, the Chocolate Mocha Cappuccino and the White Chocolate Raspberry. A week before the event they called and asked if they could mix the mouse texture (we had picked the lighted) with a butter cream texture to keep it from melting in the 106 degree heat and I agreed. OH MAN, did this taste even better! The lightness of the mouse with the sweetness of a denser cake and a butter cream. Not a single piece of cake was left from our wedding and we projected to have at least 1/3 thrown out. NOPE! It was that good. It's been a year since our wedding and we are still getting compliments on that cake. Hands down one of my favorite parts of our wedding. The icing is to die for and the actual cake...well, I can't even describe how moist and light it is. Devine!! It is a true pleasure to work with them on designing the cake(s) of your dreams. They really take the time to meet with you and make sure that you get exactly what you want, and are open to trying new designs and ideas that you might bring in. We still have folks talking about our cakes six years later, and asking "who did the cake" at your wedding. I have since been back to Panini several times for birthday cakes and other special occasion cakes. I am never disappointed and am always more than delighted with the taste and quality. I would highly recommend Panini Bakery for any occasion. The cakes are gorgeous and taste just as good, if not better, than they look! When we started planning the wedding, we knew right away that we wanted our cake to come from Panini Bakery. It's the kind of cake you can't resist even when you are on the dreaded "wedding diet". It is no exaggeration when I say that their cakes are the best I've ever had. We only had about 130 guests, but Sophie advised me to order a cake large enough for 178-200 servings as she said that guests would want to have more than one piece to try the diff flavors (we had a 4 tier cake with a different flavor on every layer). I reluctantly went with her suggestion, but I didn't really think people would eat all of it and was afraid we would have a ton leftover. At most of the weddings I've gone to, I'm usually too full for cake to even try it, much less have more than one slice. Well...turns out Sophie was right. We had NONE leftover (besides the top layer which we saved and actually ate later) and everyone is still raving about how it was the best wedding cake they had ever had. Get your cake here. I have been buying from Panini for a long time. I was disappointed. But it was not the cakes. The staff seemed to be perpetually irritated with zero skills in how to talk to a customer. I did not expect the staff to bend over backwards for me. But a run of the mill conversational skills when dealing with a customer could not be a tall ask. There is a much nicer way to tell a customer that they cannot customize a cake. That they are not a "custom caker". Cutting customers' talk and talking over them is not a winning strategy. Fortunately Panini is not the only one in town who makes cakes. Panini does not customize cakes, and that is fine. But that is no reason for losing customers. read more

The deliciousness and quality of their cakes are only surpassed by their abysmal and rude customer service and policies. Do not recommend this bakery, sad that they are accomplished Bakers, but not business or customer service savvy. It's her way or the highway, even after she's collected your money. They were closed but while closed were able to remove a prepaid custom cake that was barely missed for pickup by Saturday closing. Closed Sunday and Monday but spoke to cake decorator at front door on following Monday and manager by phone. The person at the door said the prepaid cake couldn't be picked up because it was being re-iced for future re-sale! Unethical at the very least. Left without the prepaid custom cake. Will not patronize them again and encourage our Park Cities and Preston Hollow neighbors to avoid this unfriendly, unethical and unhelpful business. read more

I don't know how long they've been in their current location, but I've clearly been missing out! I stopped in today to try a couple of cake slices. I love all things lemon, so I chose a slice of lemon cheesecake layer cake and a slice of their cappuccino cake. Wow! The lemon filling was to die for! Thick, creamy, full of lemon flavor... you can even see the lemon zest. Cappuccino also amazing. Great coffee flavor icing (not too strong) with a mousse filling and chocolate cake. Unbelievable. I also got a couple of cookies which were also good, but these cakes ya'll! Thankfully they are close enough to pop in when I'm craving something sweet. A head's up though - slices were around $7 each so not as cheap as a cupcake place. The slices though were a nice size, especially the lemon cheesecake. Great place for cakes on any occasion - wedding, birthday, holiday, shower, etc. I found them during my search for a wedding cake vendor last year, and they blew away the competition at my cake tasting! They blew away the prices as well - my wedding cake ended up costing at least $250 less than all the other quotes from different bakeries! Best of all, they gave me HUGE slices to taste, and they boxed up the rest and sent them home so my husband-to-be could try them! Sophie and her husband own the bakery - her husband is the pastry chef and Sophie helps with design and bride consultation. She is such a sweet lady, and she's very creative. As I described the cake I wanted (simple, modern, clean lines), she created it on paper; the finished product on the wedding day was fabulous! Their flavors are delicious - so many of my guests confessed that they never expect much out of a wedding cake, but that MY cake was honestly the best cake they've had, wedding or otherwise! Now THAT is a compliment to the chef! My flavors were: white cake with vanilla almond filling; white chocolate raspberry, and plain chocolate. My husband got themto design a "groom's brownie" with a camping/fishing theme - it was hilarious and so cute! Since finding Panini, I have used them on many other occasions. They made my friend's baby shower cake, a birthday cake, cupcakes for a party, and Halloween cookies. They also have some delicious-looking pastries that I want to try someday. In addition to the sweet stuff, they make "lunch boxes" - you can get a salad trio or a grilled panini. I had the ham and cheese panini that came with pasta salad and a cookie - it was great! Panini quite literally takes the cake when it comes to delicious cakes and spectacular service. I am not sure if their sensational icing is illegal or not, because it's that addicting. People would give up their careers, money, house, life and live on the streets for just the hope of one more slice of their cake. And I am not even a cake person. I had the pleasure of working with Panini for my parents 60th party. Despite the overall party being a smashing hit, if the cake was the only feature of the evening - it still would have been a night to remember. We ordered 3 cakes for the 3 birthday babes - My dad, My uncle (my dad's twin), and mi madre, Two chocolates and on red velvet. We were pushing the time limit a bit for pick-up as this bakery closes by noon on Saturday, but no need to worry, because they anticipate a few late comers and give you a good 15 min. grace period, which is no excuse to just be late. Well, at least I know I will never be late again, because I know what I am getting when I work with this place. The staff is quirky, kind, and warm. So when my wife-to-be dragged me around dallas to taste cakes, I can compare it to the feeling I get when we go shopping...for shoes. Then, when I found out what the average price of these wedding cakes actually are...I would have rather gone shoe shopping. We went to two seperate places before arriving at Panini. And although those cakes were very elegant and beautiful, they also carried a very elegant price tag and tasted like a Walmart cake. Panini Bakery & Cakes by far had the best prices...and the cake tasting was phenominal. Unlike the other two places, they gave us more to choose from, larger portions, and spent a lot of personal time with my wife to get it just the way she wanted it. They even went so far as to match the color of the frosting to the trim of my wife's wedding gown!!! Even with all this said, where they really shine was on taste. The bottom layer of our cake was chocolate with chocolate cream, center layer was vanilla with vanilla cream and the top was vanilla with strawberry cream. It was absolutely gorgeous and everyone commented on how beautiful it was and how excellent it tasted. My dad is like me, he doesn't eat much cake, and he had two slices! He said it was far and away the best cake he'd ever tasted. One year later, we went back, and as promised, they made us an anniversary cake...on the house! Panini is right near my office, so I go a couple of times a month for their "lunchbox." Everything I've tried here is amazing! They have a wonderful Turkey Rustica sandwich...the turkey is fresh, cheese is perfectly melted, the bread is to die for, and they have a cranberry spread that adds a dash of sweet. It's perfect! We also order cakes from here for the office quite often. My favorite is the White Chocolate Raspberry. Their cookies are also wonderful. My sister had Panini do her wedding cake and it was simply the most beautiful, deliciously moist, light, and perfectly sweet cake I have ever put in my mouth. She had alternating layers of the almond cake and the strawberries and cream cake. Both melted in your mouth without being chokingly sweet. And the buttercream... this was the PERFECT ratio of butter to sugar. It was aromatic, light, oh it was wonderful. I am extremely critical of food, and my other sister is a baker, we both were blown away. Perfect ending to a beautiful night.
