I am so happy I decided to trust the team over at The Calm K9. I have taken a few weeks to write this review because I almost felt like what I was experiencing was too good to be true. I have a rescued 5/6 year old Lab/Golden mix named Hudson who has always given me issues with walks. Hudson was extremely reactive and it was nearly impossible and quite embaraasing to take him with in 20 feet of another dog because of the lunging, jumping and barking. He is a sweet boy but for some reason could not control himself when we saw another dog. After getting a new job and learning that I would be moving to downtown Seattle, I knew that I had to get Hudson some help to make sure we had an easy transition to one of the most dog friendly cities in the country. I did my research and called around to several trainers but my conversation with Craig gave me a sense of ease and confidence that there was hope for Hudson. I chose a 3 week program and Meredith kept me updated about once every 3-5 days with check ins and progress update videos. On July 13th, the day we picked up Hudson we took about 1.5 hours to go over all that he has learned, how to make sure we keep him on track and how to apply what he has learned into his new life in Seattle. I feel like in some ways I have a whole new start with Hudson, I have been able to take him on LONG walks with no worries of who we might see, he has gone to breweries and has minimal issues when we have to share the elevator with another dog. There are still times when Hudson gets over excited and will have a moment but I have the tools to calm him down and move on. At home he has become so much better- while I am cooking, he automatically places himself on his bed giving me the freedom to cook in peace without him begging for food every second. At his core he is still the happiest sweetest dog and his playful spirit is still there, my life and life has just changed for the better and I could not be more thankful for the team at The Calm K9 for all they have done! read more

Unrealized, paid for, expectations. After a month-long "board and training" experience, our puppy is finally home, not one ounce of improvement in regards to his barking. $2,350 dollars later, we brought home a puppy, who had lost weight; was starving for good food; had a sore neck from the prong collar used to force him into submission and obedience; formerly house trained who now relieves himself wherever; and a puppy who had to be taken to the vet due to having digestive problems and blood in the stool. This is in a nutshell the results of the of the 1-month "board and train" program of our Maltese puppy at The Calm K9 in Ocoee, FL. Please indulge me while we tell our story so that others do not fall for this con. The journey begins with a "telephonic assessment" during which the provider discusses your concerns and provides his "recommendations" for length of training, which usually ends up being 4 weeks. A 50% deposit is required at contract signing time and a date for the drop off is set. You are met outside of the house initially, where he takes possession of your dog and the remainder of your payment. Oh yes, you will be required to pay the full cost in advance. You go home trusting that your pet is in good hands and that upon the conclusion of the "training," you will get everything you paid for! You get periodic videos where you see you dog among a pack of about 15 dogs (the resident pack) led by a pair of Alpha male and female German Shepherds. We have reviewed the videos received, time and time again, and we noticed that our puppy's tail was routinely down; he was being picked on by the larger dogs and nipped at by the Alphas. When we asked about these, the trainer told us, "It is all part of the training and that under normal circumstances, the puppy's mother would have done this." After speaking with the Vet, these were signs of anxiety, stress and discomfort with the environment. In our desire for our puppy to be successful in his training, we made ourselves believe that what we were seeing in the videos and what we were being told by the trainer was supposed to be normal! We texted with the "trainer" from time to time and one day, he did not answer for hours. When he did later in the evening, he stated that they "had to run a few errands." So, our puppy was left alone with "the pack," ... to train himself? Day 25 of "training" arrives, we are in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and the FL Governor was to announce the closing of all non-essential businesses and issue a stay-at-home order. We became concerned as we were uncertain as to what impact the Governor's order would have on our ability to drive the 2 hours to get our puppy back on day 30. So, we contacted the trainer and attempted to reason with him in wanting to pick our puppy up ahead of the order being issued. His only solution was an 8:00 pm pick up time where he would bring the dog out and we would have to leave without the benefit of the so called "training" we paid for on how to handle our puppy. Regardless of Orange County having a major outbreak of the virus, that was the only solution offered, he could not make any other accommodation and we are left with only one bad choice, to wait until day 30. Day 30 arrives. We were met outside and our puppy immediately recognized us and his enthusiasm was telling. He was sporting the abusive prong collar used for submission and obedience which was attached to a leash. After the brief demonstration of the walking on the leash we were invited inside of the house for more "information." The stench of dogs relieving themselves inside the house was pungent and present in every breath we took. The place is filthy, there is dirt or mold everywhere, the walls, the baseboards, the ceiling, the air conditioner vents. Had we seen the place beforehand our puppy would not have spent a second there! A demonstration of obedience followed with our puppy being placed on a dog bed for him to remain there for as long as the "master" wished. We are told that we should take the puppy for a walk for at least ten minutes to help him get rid of energy and to place him wherever we want him to stay. He then showed us an "electric shock collar" and suggested that if the prong collar doesn't work, we should consider buying one of those! This had nothing to do with the training needs that we contracted him for. A demonstration of him opening the door and the dog remaining still followed. Of course, the prong collar in place! When we dropped off our puppy, we provided his special food, bully sticks (that he loves), treats, his heartworm and flea and tick once-a-month medication, his crate and his bed. He was not given the heartworm or the flea and tick medications. After speaking with our vet, we are now convinced that the food we provided was eaten by "the pack" and our puppy ended up having to eating the lesser quality food the 15 other dogs are normally fed in this place read more
