My daughter and I stayed at the Carolina in March 2024 while attending a funeral. I grew up in Helena and had always wanted to see inside of this mansion. We loved our stay. The owner is kind and attentive and has had an interesting life. We enjoyed the other guests, all interesting people as well. The breakfast was huge. The room was SO comfortable. The mattress was kind of high. That might be a problem if someone is not very limber. I'm not but my daughter hoisted me up! Highly recommend this B&B. read more

Carolina Bed & Breakfast was a very unique property. The design inside the property makes you feel like you are back in time. It is on the same street with the Original Governor's Mansion, and close to Saint Helena Cathedral. The property was designed by the owner, it was beautiful. We stayed in the Anisette room, and our bedroom was very clean. It was designed with unique pieces, and the lighting made it very cozy. We also had great conversations with the owner. We appreciate Carolina very much for providing us with a comfortable stay. She recommended a Mediterranean Grill, which we tried. In the morning, Carolina prepared us some breakfast, which we enjoyed. She is very thoughtful of her guests. If you want to have a high-class experience, this is where I would recommend you to stay in Helena. read more

This B&B was my first B&B experience and it set the bar extremely high. We called before making the reservation because we were arriving late and Ms. Colleen was extremely accommodating. Upon our arrival, she greeted us on the porch and showed us to our room. We stayed in the Champagne room. The breakfast was AMAZING. The blueberry pancakes we the best I've ever had. I devoured my entire plate before taking photos. The charm of the Carolina cannot be beat and we loved Ms. Colleen. read more

If I could give this place no stars I would! First of all, I reserved the only downstairs room they had MANY months in advance because my husband was ill and couldn't manage stairs well. When we arrived, an hour before check-in time, the house cleaner asked us what room we had and when we told her she explained it was occupied by someone else. Then, a half hour later she informed us we were being put in another room out in the carriage house and it was going to cost an extra $25. Then a half hour after that after realizing there was no heat in the carriage house she put us in a second floor room at the same cost as the first, but they charged us the extra $25, "by accident", and I had to call to get a refund. The owner had no remorse or apology for putting someone else in the room that we had reserved and made ME seem like I was the one who did something wrong! Unacceptable! Besides the place is cluttered with crap everywhere on every table top and even on the floor. I would NOT recommend staying here even for 1 night! read more

We were in town for a friend's destination wedding at the cathedral. Instead of staying at the recommended hotel, we decided to stay at a bed and breakfast instead. I'm glad we made the choice as The Carolina Bed and Breakfast was far better than a hotel. Colleen was very sweet and made sure we were well taken care of. When we arrived at the hotel there was no one to greet us. We had to find someone so we could check into our room. The room was nice but very cluttered with stuff as was the entire place. Breakfast was marginal. We had no choice of what we ate, not even the type of eggs. We had to ask for juice. There was no meat offered. Also there weren't any pastries available. There were several outdoor seating areas but they were also cluttered with old branches, shovels, and other random garden tools. It did not make for a pleasant atmosphere. The bed was comfortable and the host when we met her was very pleasant. The location of the house was good. read more

This home is like stepping back in time. Beautiful property, fantastic house and beautifully furnished. The location is prime. Everything is high quality with great attention to detail and is exceptionally clean. The owners take great pride in the home, the history and guest comfort. Located in the historic district and across the street from the Governor's Mansion, this is a wonderful B&B. The decor throughout gives your eyes something attractive to see in every direction you look. We found our stay to be quiet. Our room was clean. Breakfast was enjoyable. There is a nice and rather large patio area surrounding the property should you wish to enjoy some quiet time outside - including an outside fireplace. Our room was called Anisette - included a large comfortable king size bed, chairs and desk, finely decorated, and a nice sized bathroom with shower - wonderful. read more

There is certainly the absence of a "Push them 'in'" "Push them 'out'" mentality here. If you would like to meet a real human being with a heart desirous to host you in a hospitable and friendly manner, this the place to consider... Yeah, I get that some people have a shallow perception of what hospitality means, but if you're welcome to a refreshingly new perspective with regards to what you have been longing for over the years, this the place to seek out! The ambiance instantly struck as with a nuance of "Welcome" and "I want you to feel at home". The specific care and intentional decorum of the house left us with the unmistakable notion that someone really made an effort to make our visit special. I am writing this before our breakfast and have no doubt that all will befall us accordingly and it too will not disappoint us with anything but the very best experience we have had in a long time... We celebrated my Great Gatsby 1920's themed birthday party here. It could not have been more perfect!!! The Host was wonderful and helpful and kind in very way. The decor was spot on. It was a perfect space for 30+ people. Everything was clean and orderly. We walked a quick 5 minute walk to downtown and enjoyed the downtown night life for a bit too. Excellent location. We also got a room for the night and had a great nights sleep! Comfortable bed, clean and well appointed bathroom, cozy fireplace! Breakfast was DELICIOUS! Overall a fantastic experienc. Clean, cleaner, cleanest! This beautiful old mansion is immaculately clean, a great historical place, and so friendly. Colleen is the sweetest hostess you will find and goes out of her way to make your stay perfect. We celebrated our anniversary in the Anniversary room, which was charming and Victorian. The rates were cheaper than the comparable local brand hotels, and the environment 1000% better. The grounds are amazing and well kept. The owner loves her property and guests and it shows. The high quality of breakfast was not expected and was a huge bonus rather than something cheap or continental. Booking though the website is cheaper than other sites. read more

While in town for a wedding, the groom instructed his friends and groomsmen to stay at the Carolina. The idea was to have all of the groomsmen together to make for easy transportation to wedding activities. We were told that the entire bed and breakfast would be held only for the grooms party. The pros: some of the rooms were gorgeous with beautiful walk in showers and intricate details. The staff was friendly and inviting. The breakfast was always tasty though, served buffet style and a bit smaller than what I'm used to receiving at other B&Bs. The cons: there seemed to be quite a bit of confusion in regard to the rooms. Despite having called ahead and made arrangements months in advance, the staff was very confused about room assignments. When we called and requested two beds or a blow up mattress, we were told that the only option would require us to share a bathroom with other guests for one night but, it would be discounted $25 a night. (We later found out that another party ended up with a spacious room with a large blow up bed which they did not need or request). Seeing the entire B&B was blocked off for the grooms party (our friends) we agreed to these terms. When we arrived, the staff did not seem to know if there would be guests staying in the adjacent room. Sure enough, the next day and for the next 3 nights, another couple, having nothing to do with the wedding checked in and stayed in the room. Furthermore, another person in the grooms party had to change rooms the first day he checked in when part of the grooms party arrived that the Carolina staff had forgotten about. Now, we were required to share a bathroom with 2 other rooms. Yet somehow upon check out, we were going to be charged the full rate of the room which, by the way, is the same rate as other, more spacious rooms with their own private bath with walk in, tile showers. The bathroom we shared had an old tub with brass shower features that did not work well and a pedastool sink. The nearest outlet is across the bathroom. Hubs expressed his displeasure and we were offered $25 off a night (which was what they originally told us when we were sharing with one other room for one night). In my opinion, $25 a night is not nearly enough to share an old bathroom with 2 other rooms one of which was occupied by complete strangers. Overall, I wish we had stayed at a local hotel. The Carolina has potential to be a great place to stay but only if you get lucky enough to have one of the beautiful rooms with a private bath. read more

Beautiful place BUT, our room was unexpectedly canceled at the last minute with NO notification. I had booked the room for two nights for a wedding guest. When my visiting guest went to check in he was told his room had been given away to another bridal party. I had given Colleen my credit card to hold the room but apparently that wasn't good enough. read more

We had a 4 day reunion in Helena and this place was wonderful - a thought shared by all. Coleen our hostess is very warm and friendly She has a very colorful background. The house is an historic home, artfully decorated and convenient to Helena's best attractions. Food was excellent. We had a large sitting area where the 8 of us could gather after a day of sightseeing. Beds were comfortable and rooms well equipped. All in all a winner of a place. read more
