Nevertheless, it has everything required of a pub these days: a screen perpetually playing sport, a well-stocked, up-to-date jukebox and a couple of fruit machines. No seats were available the last time we went in, most of them being occupied by grumpy-looking couples, their rapport and shine being eroded by years of unspoken resentment and monotony. Outside, black cabs circle, picking up travellers, business people and late-night workers. To conclude, it's really only a stop-gap when you want a quick drink and I would feel very out of place if I turned up here in my glad rags and leopard-print platforms...

It's essentially an arcade that has a bar & if you're as much of a nerd who enjoys liquor as much as I am, you'll love this place. Though not the strongest, the drinks are fairly price and the bar tender was pretty cool. Their drinks range from a tap to hard liquors. My friend & I played Street Fighter & what is known as the greatest arcade game of all time, Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. The environment in here is super relaxed and the games are fun. The only thing that would improve it is if they added a food menu.

It has the feel of a proper neighbourhood bar, which always warrants a thumbs up from me, especially in this day and age. The surrounding area seems to have been constantly undergoing developments and changes for as long as I can remember, but the Press Bar, fundamentally, hasn't changed much. On offer you have the usual selection of drinks, but there is the nice addition of a guest ale or two - on my most recent visit it was Harviestoun's delightful Bitter & Twisted. Great value too. The staff are lovely - the prices are reasonable - and it's a nice wee bar to have a few quiet pints. I like!

Not only did it attract staff from the old Herald building next door, but rather from across the entire writing scene in the city. Those, of course, were the days in which newspapers were thriving. These days, the whole atmosphere surrounding the impression is grim and socialising plays less of a part than it once did. For those who remember the glory days, the Press Bar remains a nostalgic nod towards better times. Personally, I'm just pleased to see a good, solid old school bar remain in this area of the city.

Not one person I spoke too seemed to be put out by any of my daft questions about the food, or the seating outside, or the football on the telly. The space itself is pretty amazing. It's a lot bigger than you would expect upon entering down the fairy light laden hallway - and there's a huge beer garden at the back with several big comfy leather couches - would be ideal for watching the football on, if it hadn't been raining earlier. The beers on tap are nice and cold; I had a pint (or 3) or Innis and Gunn and really enjoyed it. Side note that may be totally World Cup related - during the half time break in the football, they turned the sound of the TV off and put on music. A nice relief from having to listen to the "pundits" do their thing and bore you to tears. It is hard to find though if they have the shutter down on the room (they apparently open up this shutter to the main room but if it's closed you need to walk through a pool room and past the toilets to find it). The main room didn't seem overly busy for a Saturday night but maybe it picks up later on. It really has a cheap student vibe to it which isn't necessarily a bad thing - it's just not my thing. I didn't visit the toilets or go to the bar so I can't comment on these aspects. I would return here in future if I had a reason - otherwise, I can't this being a place I'd visit for a drink when there are other places nearby that are much nicer.

Surly bar staff and unpleasant clientele made this an unfortunate visit for me - maybe I was just unlucky and caught the place on an 'off' day but I doubt it. The mob who were in there that day reminded me of the zombies in the 'Sean of the Dead' movie, only these characters weren't in the slightest way funny. At one point I was in fear of my personal safety which hardly makes for a pleasant pub visit ! I most certainly will not be back in here.

It was far too handy for me and my fast-food cravings. I spent much of my time at Glasgow uni here - during the day at least. The 'reading room' is perfect for a relaxing cup of coffee on those huge couches or a chat with friends. At night time though it was somewhere I tended to avoid - not so much due to the tackiness of being a student's union but the often arrogant rugby guys and friends who ruined the fun atmosphere. The building itself, like much of Glasgow University, is stunning to look at.

It has loads of bars and two separate night clubs, a large debating chamber which hosts comedy and live acts and a rather grotty beer garden. Upstairs it has amazing snooker tables and a reading room. As unions go this one is excellent in terms of facilities. The prices are also very good. Two problems, you have to be a student (when it suits them to be honest usually when they are busy) and quite often the places is overrun with arrogant ignorant rugby goers who make for terrible chat. I think that it is best for day time drinking.

There's a few reasons for that, and while I'm sure there's just something to the atmosphere that's impossible to quantify, these are the things that I think give it at least part of its charm. 1. The whisky. They have a huge selection and they're easily the best place to come for whisky in Finnieston, although most of the bars around here have a few bottles on offer. They staff are very knowledgeable about it, without being snobbish or pushy, and at quieter times are happy to make recommendations and to chat to you about their favourites. 2. It's small. Not in a cramped way but in a cosy way. You can sometimes struggle for a table but it's the kind of place where you feel OK about sharing tables with strangers. The regulars are friendly and are happy for you to pull up a chair 3. When there's music it's fiddles, usually being played by those friendly regulars. I saw an accordion there once but usually it's fiddles being played and being played well - they tend to get involved with the Celtic Connections music festival. 4. It's dog friendly. There's usually one or two dogs running around and the staff are happy to provide a bowl of water for them. So there you have it. Finnieston might be getting awfully fashionable but if that's not your scene it still has one of the least hipster-ish, most traditional whisky pubs in Glasgow and it's a pub that's well worth checking out.
