The steak was very good... but not excellent. I ordered a cowboy ribeye. The streak was cooked correctly, but lacked that seared crust. We had a business trip to Calgary recently and were staying near the airport. We found the CattleBaron on Yelp and decided to try it out. We ended up having a great meal. The ribeye steaks were quite good but the dry ribs appetizer was highly suggested by our server and they were amazing. Definitely order the dry ribs. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Was visiting Calgary and my boyfriend made reservations for my birthday. Well, we accidentaly went to the wrong location! No problem! They got us in anyway despite being super busy and were so friendly and helpful about it, never making it seem like an inconvenience. Dinner was delicious! We started with escargots, split a ceasar salad then I had the filet, my boyfriend had the t-bone. Everything was so good I forgot to take pictures until the end when they came out with a mudpie for desert. Location/Service Had to stay in Calgary for the night so decided to try some Alberta beef before I hop on the plane. Glad to know there were multiple locations of this steakhouse as I had to call around to make a reservation - some were as late as 9pm. Thankfully, I managed to book one by 7:30pm. This location had a very high ceiling and a rusty olden decor. Very steakhouse-ish vibes. I also like the fact that the tables weren't squeezed together so we had some social distancing and privacy. Our waiter was very nice and made good recommendations. One of my friends also had to push back on a steak that wasn't made to expectations - but he took is seriously and was able to action it accordingly. Food The bread starter was fresh and warm. I like there were a variety to pick and choose. The butter was also well room-temperature, so it tasted great as a whole. I tried the Blue Cheese Top Sirloin ($31). The steak was about 7oz and it was a good size for me. I like how there are many different sides to choose from - like a double backed potato. I chose mashed potato at the end, and you can add pepper & bacon bits afterwards as well. The steak was done to my medium rare expectations, it was still juicy and tender. The blue cheese sauce added an extra kick, but obviously not to everyone's liking cause the cheese itself is quite intense. I was visiting for a few hours and I heard Calgary is know for their beef and a friend recommended to get the Prime Rib and I love a fantastic Prime Rib! This was amazing!!! Loved how tender the meat on this prime rib! What made it even better was how strong the horseradish is! It went so well together! A match made in heaven! read more

Really great food! We went here for a family members birthday and this was a very nice restaurant we enjoyed while in town. All the dishes that were ordered were hot and very well liked. The steak was mouthwatering and cooked to perfection, the veal was delightful, ribs fantastic, even the vegetarian dish was very agreeable. Love the bread that came after we ordered. Must say the double stuffed potato as a side is highly recommended. The fries were alright. The coleslaw that came with the ribs was probably the only item that no one really cared for. Loads of parking but this place definitely got busy at dinner time. The staff were super accommodating even with us bringing our baby we were able to have the carrier out of the way. And there is a baby change table in the large stall so very appreciated for the moms. A classic country steakhouse clean vibe and atmosphere. read more

February 26-19. Last time I saw Lynda. This was a pretty good steak meal with an excellent server. John was funny, efficient & through. One of the better servers that I've had in a while. The meal was good. Started with hot wings....they were good but could have been crispier for my taste. My main was a Filet Mignon with a twice baked potato. The twice baked was a little on the dry side & didn't have much flavour. The veggies were perfectly cooked. The chef knew their stuff with the exception of the twice baked potato. Surroundings good, but not great, look to your packaged tea, and mediocre service. The chimmichuri needs a 180, steak was good, presentation of the potato sides could be elevated. Bread was nice, could be garlic butter. Overall, work on the details and you can end up keeping your following. We ate in the lounge which was very toasty next to the fireplace. And yasss, they give you free bread and butter too! I opted for the Filet Mignon, medium rare paired with mashed potatoes and veggies! The Filet Mignon was a bit more rare than medium rare but still soo juicy, seasoned well and melt in your mouth worthy! At the table, they'll offer you sour cream, bacon and onions (green onions) for you to top onto your creamy mashed potatoes. SOOO GOOD, take the offer. We had a family function for 18 of us at the Royal Oak location. We booked the semi private area, organized and planned the menu with staff a couple weeks prior To the event. The food was amazing and beautifully presented. The pre planned menu accommodated all the dietary requirements our group had and staff worked with prior to the event to ensure all our needs would be taken care of. Stephanie, our dedicated server for the evening, was attentive, helpful with drink and dessert suggestion, polite and friendly. She definitely helped make our evening run smoothly. The bf wanted STEAK for dinner after our long day of travel and we decided to check this place out.... The restaurant was NOT busy on a Saturday evening, we got seated right away and I got to check in using their Free Wifi (ask your server for the password :)). We both were hungry! so we each ordered the Prime Rib, baron cut (bigger ha!). I got mine with garlic mashed potatoes while the Bf got baked potatoes. The (free) bread came out fresh and warm, a great start to our meal. Our plate of BIG cut Prime Rib came fairly quickly and our eyes were twinkling ready to ATTACK that great looking piece of beef! o yeah!!! I only wish that they would have given more of the au jus sauce..we were too tired to ask but the prime rib was still super duper delicious!!! I licked my plate clean!!! literally!!! The server was friendly but attentiveness was just so so...he came to refill our drink once and we don't see him on the floor much other than when we flagged him for our bill.. But as far as how the beef taste... yummmmmmmmmm!!!!! delcious!! and I won't complain for the $30 price tag on my big cut of prime rib! Afterall, it's a nice restaurant so $30 for the type of restaurant is actually on the cheap side..in my opinion.. I'll probably try their steak next time.. YUM YUM YUM and nice people! The beef here in Alberta is fantastic. I had a 9 oz top sirloin, Caesar salad, baked potato and veggies. The steak was just SO flavorful. I used to clean (that's butchering) and cook meat in one of the most expensive restaurants in Silicon Valley and I know my meat. This is the real, tasty, tender stuff. So good! I mentioned to the hostess (might be the manager) that I was traveling and headed southward. During my meal she came to me and said she was talking to a waiter and he told her one of the routes required chains and is a dangerous road and she was worried about me. We ordered the 8oz filet mignon mid-rare, it came out quite on the rare side (it was quite a thick cut), with a twice baked potato which was very dry. The vegetables were the frozen kind out of the bag, if it wasn't it sure looked and tasted like it! We also had the baby back ribs, full rack. It was just okay. The coleslaw was too sweet. The brussel sprout appetizer was a bit undercooked, the brussels were hard to chew. If you don't know good food, this place will do, but it wasn't anything to write home about, especially for the price. 5oz glass of cab was $9, 8oz was $13.
