Cellar is a genuinely fantastic liquor store. Period. The place is small, cozy, but the selection never fails to impress. There are seriously, seriously good beer selections that rotate (because they always try to get limited-run, rare stuff - and it runs out) and awesome wine stocked too. Ask Mike (look for the beard) for a recommendation and watch his face light up while he asks you your preferences and tailors his response. His knowledge is encyclopedic and his enthusiasm is infectious. He really makes the place special. Hard to reconcile these other reviews calling the place pretentious. Dear The Cellar Wine and Spirits, I mean, you are alright, pretty pretentious, but fine in a pinch. I don't understand why people think your prices are reasonable, because I've priced checked and wine here is a few bucks more than places like the Wine and Cheese Cask. I feel lectured by one of your employees on the regular. Your prices are also on the back of the wine bottles and I was once told by said employee to please turn the bottles back around once looked at a few because I can't spend more than 25 bucks on a bottle of wine (like most people I know). This is my neighborhood liquor store and I could not be happier having them a hop, skip, jump, and a jaywalk away. Whether it's buying kosher wine on the way to a friend's Passover seder (many to choose from), or picking up 2 more 6-packs as a party at my place is underway, I've been glad to have them so close. One time I wanted a particular brand of scotch that they did not carry it but I knew that it would be a gamble at a store of this size. Selection is reasonable and so are the prices, as far as I can tell. And keep that Discover or Amex for other occasions - this joint is Visa and Mastercard only. read more

This place dresses itself up like it'll have great finds and fancy things. Except I went here looking for a certain nice liquor and I was pretty much told to go to a bigger liquor store. The dude said flat out, "We get a lot of college students looking for bacardi, so that's what we have." Lame. read more

Closed? Far from it - it's open, and fantastic! Staff member with beard = wine genius, and this establishment boasts a knock-it-out-of-the-park selection. The Cellar is 6 steps from my bus stop and a block from home and that's how I'm becoming an alcoholic. It's a small store so the selection is limited but there's enough variety that I usually find something new and interesting to take home every week along with my favorite Tuscan red. The employees are friendly and helpful, and the political guy in particular knows his stock and knows what's good. On a few occasions he's sent me to other nearby liquor stores for higher quality bottles or things the Cellar doesn't carry, and his port recommendation ("don't drink any of these") may have saved a friendship. read more

The location is convenient if you have errands in the area. However, I wouldn't go here for a casual bottle for a night with friends. Hard to tell what items cost (not everything marked) and a bit too pretentious for my taste. Save it for the special evening or celebration. read more

Great service: the man running the counter actually stepped out from behind the counter and showed me the store's offerings. It was the ideal wine shopping experience. I shop here because of one person who works there and more importantly his never ending quest to get the best beer. He is the ultimate beer connoisseur. He's the guy with the beard, I can't remember his name. Not once has he pointed me in the wrong direction. Super helpful and I always look forward to his chats and new selection of beers. I don't go here unless I absolutely have to because of the incredibly unprofessional and insulting clerk who works there. The selection and prices at the store are fine, but in my experience the guy who works there is boorish, condescending, judgmental and it's just not worth enduring him to shop there. In the times I've come in, I have heard him criticize customer's purchases to their face, give unsolicited condescending commentary on customer's knowledge or lack of knowledge of alcohol and I've even seen him ask customers to leave if he didn't like the way they looked. Now there may be other clerks who work there who are good, but I've tried shopping there 5-6 times over the last year or so and he's the only one I've ever seen. So unfortunately while that guy works there and is trying to be a petty liquor store tyrant I really can't recommend this place. read more

I stumbled across Cellar Wine last week with friend, and was pleasantly surprised by their selection and service. Their staff was friendly and eager to give recommendations, their selection was small, but of quality, and their cheese selection was diverse and interesting. The bar and restaurant are decent for a drink and a snack. But STAY AWAY from the liquor store. The clerk that works there is belligerent and condescending to customers. Often times on a weekend evening he is drunk, calls you names and refuses to sell you alcohol if you don't agree with his opinions. I have never seen such unprofessionalism and bad customer service from a liquor store before, especially given that this place is not cheap. If you are a local, do yourself a favor and go down the street to Dana Hill Liquors (literally a block away, good alcohol selection, cheaper and friendlier). read more
