So, Wings and Waffles next door does not sell alcohol, contrary to my intial belief. Liquor Land does not sell Wings, nor Waffles, but they do have a solid selection of booze. You know, typical array of domestic beers, a couple of larger bottles of Belgian saisons, my standby Great Western cheapass champagne, and all your basic liquors and mixers. There were a plethora of signs requiring backpacks and large bags ot be checked at the door, but I happily avoided said confiscation of my excessively large purse-- leaving it at the register would have totally pissed me off. If the hangover allows, feed the empties to the fickle can/bottle eater and snag a cold sixer with the change on your way out. Solid spread, though the exotics brews are warm shelved. Wine variety is decent, but the liquor selection is bangin'. The six foot high elevated counter where all the employees congregate is a little odd. Yeah Liquor Land! This place is not for the faint of heart. It's kinda creepy sometimes- dudes from the meth clinic hanging out, a sketchy police officer selling shit out of his trunk, and drunk dudes hanging around with mad dog** in paper bags- but there isn't a better place to buy liquor in all the South End area. This place has everything. A decent wine selection, all kinds of liquor in all price ranges, good beer prices (kegs too), and the coolest staff ever. These guys that work there have a thankless job- they deal with one of three people on a regular basis. 1. Drunk homeless dudes. 2. Drunk jackasses with ten kids in tow. 3. Drunk yuppies who think it is kitchy-cool to cross the other side of the tracks. But, they always give ya service with a smile and seem to be having a good time. If you're not a friend of Liquor Land, you ain't no friend of mine. It's pretty amazing and pretty horrific at the same time. It's great because it's..... 1.) A land of liquors, including liquors from around the world. Ever wanted to try the official liquor of Latvia? They've got it, and man, is it terrible. 2.) They have outstanding customer service, as long as you aren't a crack head. 3.) They have a great selection of wines and more importantly, champagnes. They carry Sofia, which is my favorite, in the pink cellophane wrapped bottle or in the cans, which are HIGHLY appropriate for smuggling in your purse if it's your birthday. Also carry a wide selection of the Champagne of Beers, even in baby cans. 4.) It's totally in the hood and it's close to my home in the hood. And yes, despite the five stars, there's one downside...... It's the crack heads. It's close to Boston Medical Center, and they have can returns there, which is a big selling point to people who pick up cans so they can buy nips of Hennessey. So Liquor Land is a liquor store and they like, sell liquor...and stuff. Yeah, it is a liquor store that used to be in the ucky part of the South End so it was, in one word...scary. Now, it is a liquor store that is in between Newmarket Square and the ridiculous South Bay Plaza. This makes for an interesting shopping experience, not that shopping with heroine addicts, prostitutes and hard core homeless alcoholics wasn't fun enough at the old location. A few thoughts.. First of all, I bet that if you are driving here you will get pissed off really quickly if you are coming down here on a weekend day or around the holidays. The traffic SUCKS ass and the parking right now is pretty limited. They used to have a huge parking lot but those days are gone. There are like buses that go by here, I've never been on one BUT they do exist. Secondly and more importantly, this can now be a destination shopping event for you! Yeah, go to hoidy-toidy Target and Famous Footwear at the South Bay Plaza, go to the Olive Garden for crappy whatever they make or to Victoria's for grits or to the Hen House for fried chix bits and then shop for PBR and Riesling at Liquor Land! And finally, if you want selection this will be a decent stop for you. They do not have the best beer, wine, liquor or misc. crap selection in the world but it is more than adequate. Most importantly if you want to not get roughed up price wise this is the place to go. read more

SKETCHY! Yes, its big and awesome but I made the mistake of heading here just as it was getting dark to load up on lots of booze for a big party I was having. I took the bus there thinking "oh I am so cool, I am going to get all the booze for the party in one place, super cheap and then just hope in a cab and wizz down mass ave home!" Well, I had to call 4 different cab companies because everyone KNEW the place and KNEW bums and sketch people hang out there. Apparently I was the only one out of the loop, because even the guys working were like "yeah, cabs don't really come here!" GRRR! Now, I am not one of those super timid girls, but after a long day and calling 4 cab companies, well I was just not super excited about standing outside of this place with a HUGE stroller of booze as the dark approached as the weirdos ascended! About a million and a half men must have hit on me as I was desperately waiting for the cab I finally convinced, which of course was took over a half an hour to arrive! One of the guys that worked there was REALLY nice and came out to chat with me for a while and fend of the weirdos-- so they have to get AT LEAST 3 stars for helping me feel safe! I finally got home, but after all the hassle I wished I had simply gone out to Allston! It would have been well worth the $20 or so I saved! When I go back, it will be with my car, and during well-lit hours! **Its awesome that they recycle bottles here, and its great that people can find a way to earn a buck recycling trash someone else might not have taken the time to. read more

Plus, if you get on their email newsletter, you're privy to their holiday sales -- if you think you can find a bottle of St. Germain for $29.99 anywhere else you're dreaming -- even in NH it's more expensive (checked, believe me). I love Liquor Land so much I wrote a song about it once, but I can't remember how it went. I was drunk. The selection is brilliant: they have all the booze you could ever want there, including the almighty Presidente beer, which is Dominican just like David Ortiz. Here's the one thing they don't have: I really, really wanted some Mad Dog one day and I went to Liquor Land and asked for it and the lady behind the counter said "Honey, we don't sell anything that makes you fight the cops." Is it a bad sign that I see Liquor Land on my credit card statement multiple times a month? In terms of size, it is HUGE (insert that's what she said joke here). Variety galore. Wines organized by region, liquor gift sets, and hard-to-find liqueurs, all at a fraction of the price than those snobby South End places (looking at you Brix, Wine Emporium, Cru). I immediately switched to this place as my go-to booze store as soon as I stepped into this clean, well-lit establishment. Staff is very friendly and will gladly help you find whatever you need to get your drink on. Now, here's the secret.... let me tell you why this place gets 5 stars. Every holiday season, they hold a FREE wine tasting with food. We are talking 100s of wines spread across 20 tables, with the vendors present to explain and answer questions. Sadly, I could only get through ~15-20 tastings. Throw in hors d'oeuvres and a 20% discount, and you have yourself a great excuse to spend 3 hours in a liquor store on a Wed night... Since my last review of Liquor Land, they've moved into a somewhat better neighborhood. Still a fair amount of sketchballs in the liquor store, but my expectations shouldn't be so high. I pass at least a half-dozen liquor stores on my MBTA commute home from Central Square to Savin Hill, but driving out to Liquor Land is truly worth it. You know this is really a perfectly good liquor store, and has a fantastic selection for the area. In fact, even when I've been on the hunt for some slightly stranger alcoholic concoctions to mix into a drink, Liquor Land has not disappointed me. Don't expect extremely rare drinks, or local bitters or anything like that. Liquor Land: the ultimate adult theme park. No I'm kidding, it just sells booze. Awesome selection (alcohol infused whipped cream?) and decent prices have turned me into a repeat offender. The staff is also very friendly and knowledgeable. I've dealt with the horrible ID issues that Boston seems to have in the past but my NJ license scores me goods with no hassle every time. The location is a tad on the shady side, I never come alone or when the sun's down. Easy parking up front make for a smooth getaway from the bums that always hang around this joint. They're on Mass Ave, across from the Victoria Restaurant, accessible by bus (right outside the door), and they have parking out front and to the left of the entrance. Those of you whining about "sketchy" and "ucky" need to put on your big kid pants and deal with city living. The store is clean and bright, the employees are friendly and knowledgeable, the wine selection is superior to many of the pricier South End stores. There are more kinds and brands of liquor than I ever imagined even existed. Find Emmit if you need help with a wine recommendation or advice on anything alcohol related. Liquor Land is the best liquor store in the Boston and surrounding areas. It has an enormous selection of beers, wines, liquors, pre-mixed cocktails, coolers, champagnes and more. I went there on Valentine's Day with my fiance and a couple of friends. Liquor Land had a tasting going on. We tasted different cocktails that had a Valentine theme. You have to try this mixed cocktail called, "Xrated." It may be a exclusively expensive yet well worth the price. My second favorite was the chocolate vodka. I assumed that it was going to taste disgusting but I was proven wrong. It had a creamy and chocolate flavor that was very delicious. The third cocktail that we purchased from the tasting was, "Godiva." Of course I heard of the chocolate but not the drink. That drink compliments itself. I was feeling good after drinking that with my fiance at home. Warning: It may cause you to desire erotic pleasure! LOL Last but not least, we bought 2 bottles of red wine. I do not like red wine but my fiance and a friend loved this specific red wine that was on display at the tasting. I am going to another tasting that will be held on March 14th. The theme is St. Patrick's Day. How can I forget about one of the owners, Emmett. If you are having a bad day, he will cheer you up. He is very outgoing and will put a smile on your face. He will have you ROTF! He is an extremely nice person. All of the other staff are customer service oriented. I love this liquor store! The prices are reasonable and the location is in the heart of Boston. I reside about 12-15 minutes away yet the drive is worth it when I am in the mood for a cocktail. read more

I literally come here every week and most of the staff (including the manger) suck with customer service. For example today I misplaced my ID and the manger was ringing me up and literally acted like he didn't know me and what I always buy every week for like the past 3 years. He said he couldn't ring me up unless I found my ID. Thankfully I eventually did find my ID at the bottom of my purse. Like really bro?? I come here ALL the time. Horrible customer service. I remember being 18 and I had just moved to Boston, and when I saw the old location for the first time, it blew my mind because it was so cool and so "urban". I'm all grown up now, and Liquor Land is in a classy new location, and it is still the reliable place to shop for Boston residents. I love the days before holidays when the place is busy, and it's kinda fun because everyone is there for the same thing, and that same thing is a fun thing(buying alcohol for the holidays), and so standing in line becomes a time to chat and laugh with other people. Same with the tastings! There are so few times and places in this town where strangers actually talk to each other. But at the tastings, you want to! You want to hear what other people's opinions are. Last but not least, this collection of employees is top notch. They are smart, they are helpful, they are nice, they are funny, they kick ass. You know why I love Liquor Land? Because every year they come through with a keg of Pumpkinhead for our Halloween party. And Mr. Michelle B can't have Halloween without Pumpkinhead! And please don't judge us for having a kegerator; we're grown-ups, I swear! We own a house! Beyond the Pumpkinhead, they have a great beer selection and a fairly good hard cider selection as well. Usually you end up having three cider selections - Magners, Original Sin and Woodchuck, but Liquor Land has quite a selection, including some small batch stuff that is a little higher in price but infinitely better than the sugar laden Magners. For the rest of it, pretty standard booze selection. They have some specials every once in awhile and they do tastings fairly often. All of the staff is friendly and helpful. Parking is super easy, they have spots out front and along the side of the building, but taking a left onto Mass Ave from the parking lot is anything but easy. I just went to their new location and it's setup exactly like the old! It's located down Mass Ave almost directly across from Victoria's Diner, next to a lil playground. They don't have their signs up yet, but it's just good o liquor land, but with fresh new paint and awesome flooring! Very friendly, and particular props to the 60ish woman who's always working there with short gray hair who is not only very friendly, but whom I once saw chase a car that was trying to hightail it out of the parking lot with some stolen bottles inside. Parking? Limited, and if the few spaces are occupied, it's either walk the not-insignificant distance from the South Bay Lot or bust. Worth a special trip? If you live in Savin Hill, odds are it'll be a much easier ride to Best Liquors or Eagle's, and their prices are a teeny bit lower, so go to Liquor Land if you're looking for something outside the absolute mainstream and care about having fun/browsing on your errand. I've also never been there without somebody visibly drunk or disturbed standing outside the store or lumbering around inside, but I've never had a problem with anyone. read more

Super friendly and helpful staff and a good variety of liquor, wine and beer at very decent prices. If only Liquor Land wasn't so far from my neighborhood, I'd probably be a regular by next weekend. Highlight of my visit: O'Hara's Irish Stout - which I've been having serious trouble finding in any of the usual liquor stores I visit. I had trouble restraining myself from buying up more than I could carry. Parking is precarious in the few spaces out front but don't worry - it's worth the danger of baking out onto the street. I know this will make me sound like a total alcoholic, but I love love love this place. They have a lovely selection of liquor, beer, and wine. It's a large space, but not overwhelming. I find the employees to be very friendly and accomodating. For example, I recently wanted a liquor that was no longer being made (Absolut Boston). They informed me they would be getting in one last case, and since I asked, they would be happy to hold some to the side just for me. I managed to pick up 6 bottles because they were so nice about it. That alone earned them my repeat business. Seriously, this is a great place to buy your hooch. read more

3.5 stars I was wary of Liquor Land for a while because I made silly assumptions. I don't really know what those assumptions were based on...maybe the location, but in any case, I was pleasantly surprised with the selection here. Prices are comparable to the area. I will say that they have obscure, hard-to -find beer, but because not many people in the area but that stuff, some of the beer on the shelves was past its expiration and the refrigerators were not well-organized. They carry lots of stuff that the locals like and the boat boxes are always well-stocked! read more

Have shopped here a few times & have always had a good experience. The staff is friendly & helpful - hubby wanted a Mayflower IPA, which was broken up in the fridge, but a staffer came out to point him in the right direction. I especially enjoyed their silly "Welcome Spring" hats they were wearing this weekend -- cut out daisies made into a chain around their heads. This liquor store is perhaps one of the cleanest I've ever been too... & it doesn't have that funky stale smell, either. The selection of beers is amazing -- TONS of local brews & others you can't find anywhere. My only beef is that they sell single beers, so when I picked up most 6 packs, they were not full & the box was falling apart. This is my favorite liquor store in the area. They have a great wine selection and carry my two favorite whites. They always have great tastings going on, and the staff is universally nice and fun (and dressed in seasonal costumes - very cute)! It's also clean, spacious and very well organized. I'm impressed by the selection at this place, and we'd rather go here than anywhere in our neighborhood. We actually get really excited to go to Liquor Land - how weird is that! read more

As far as liquor stores go, I was more impressed than I thought I would be -- they stock a lot of the more obscure stuff (which is usually what I am looking for) and the prices are good. When it comes to mainstream liquor they have a decent selection (but they don't have MY gin in stock). Helpful staff, lots of wine and wine knowledge. Had driven by here 100 times and never stopped, but I'm glad I did. Will be back. read more
