But I worked for a rehab therapy agency for 11 years and saw how much good comes when patients are treated by A+ therapists. In May 2021 I fell in the shower and tore my rotator cuff after already struggling with frozen shoulder; I needed pain relief and rehab STAT. I was evaluated and treated by Michael Landin, PT, and depended on him for pain relief for two years. After shoulder rehab ended, my whole body needed a lot of attention, but no matter what we tried I wasn't really improving. When Mike left in April of 2023, I transferred to Jorge, because I had watched him for two years and knew he was the best PT I had ever seen, and, well, only the best for this princess! TBH, I was so loyal to Mike that it took me some time to trust Jorge completely but letting him treat me was definitely the right decision. Jorge works hard to figure out my weird body, and I am extremely grateful for his sharp skills and superior knowledge. He has helped me make so much progress and I can finally feel and see the difference in my body. From allowing us to do pay-ahead billing to greeting us by name on each and every visit, Forte was fabulous. A few additional items of note. First, unlike most clinics that have a small window overlooking a parking lot, Forte has huge picture windows overlooking a beautiful golf course. Outside the windows you'll see squirrels and birds such as hummingbirds and even brilliantly red cardinals. You might even see a few duffers hacking away and tearing up the turf. Second, parking is easy and plentiful - we never had an issue finding a space right up front. One other thing to mention - their hours. Forte has, at least in my experience, rather late hours. My wife had a couple of appointments where she didn't leave until 5:30PM. The entire staff is amazing. Thank you Sonja for being kind and compassionate to my wife's needs not to mention your patience in dealing with her language barrier issues. Rachel, you often checked in and seemed genuinely interested in my wife's progress. We appreciate that greatly. Checking into the facility, I noticed it looked a bit old and had walls being repainted BUT it looked and smelled very clean. Despite this, I has my reservations about leaving my mom. It was the first time that we had been in a situation where we required extensive nursing care outside of our home. Then, I met Lela. She is a nurse manager at the facility. Immediately she sensed my apprehension. I expressed that I didn't want to leave my mom. She encouraged me and offered reassurance. She said, "Maybe the building needs TLC and we're working on it but, I guarantee you, the people here are the best at what they do and you're mom will excel." So, although I was hesitant, I left my mom, and returned the next day and the next day and the day after that.... What I witnessed was truly remarkable. Having been a patient and being a Nurse Practitioner, I can tell you that medicine isn't always kind...except at Sonterra Health Center. Every single staff member that the facility has amassed CARES for their patients. They take their lunch breaks in their patient's rooms if they notice someone feels lonely, they come in with a smile at the beep of every call bell, they gladly change out food trays if the least bit of disappointment is expressed. Every single person has gone above and beyond to support my mother as she heals. They even provided my mother with a volunteer opportunity to do some social service, which lifted her spirits. I want to be fair: the CNAs, nurses, and therapists were some of the kindest, most compassionate and hardworking people I have ever met. Many work extremely long shifts doing physically and emotionally demanding work. My criticism is not directed at them. My concern is management. I became especially concerned about an elderly resident who told me she was terrified of her roommate, who has Alzheimer's. She reported being physically attacked and waking at night with her roommate standing over her threatening her. She became so frightened of her room that she sometimes preferred sitting outside in the Texas heat. I personally approached the facility director, explained the situation, and asked him to intervene. He promised to look into it. Before I was discharged, I confronted him again and asked whether this woman's situation would actually be resolved. After leaving, I checked on her and learned that the problem still had not been meaningfully resolved. Sonterra later contacted me about my evaluation. I again explained the situation and was assured someone would investigate. I checked again afterward and was told that nobody had come to see her as promised. This particularly bothers me because this resident appears to have nobody consistently advocating for her. I cannot know why her concerns have received so little attention, and I will not accuse anyone of motives I cannot prove. What I do know is that a frightened, vulnerable resident repeatedly asked for help, I personally asked management to help her, and I still saw no meaningful resolution. During my stay, I also had concerns about the food, insects in resident areas, staffing levels, and what I personally observed as a lack of meaningful interaction between upper management and residents. My advice to families is simple: there are wonderful frontline caregivers at Sonterra, but advocate strongly for your loved one. Visit frequently, ask questions, pay attention, and don't assume management knows what is happening simply because staff have been told. I have written commendations for Sonterra employees who provided me outstanding care because good people deserve recognition. But vulnerable residents also deserve someone willing to speak when something is wrong. Every resident matters, whether they have money, family, influence, or nobody at all. They are human beings deserving dignity and safety. I tried repeatedly to address this internally before writing publicly. After 5 weeks, I went to a new Dr and his office girl dug into my records and could request my info and put it online. I finally found out my biopsy results!
