My haircut was amazing! It was done by Danielle. She was very chilled out and understood my vision perfectly. It was $60 for a woman's haircut, but only $10 for bang trims! That's an amazing price if you ask me. The staff are all very friendly too, the receptionist asked me if I wanted tea or water. They also didn't try to push products at me, which was amazing. I am incredibly disappointed in the service my daughter received from the Chair Salon. Due to unforeseen circumstances, she arrived a bit late - 10 minutes max - and I called the salon in advance to warn them, and The Chair was understanding over the phone. Upon my daughter coming home, she remarked that her stylist seemed stressed by her lateness, which I understand, but it is absolutely no excuse for the laughably uneven haircut she received. Attached are photos demonstrating the near-INCH of difference between two cuts of hair. Not to mention my daughter paid $60 +tip. I am beyond disappointed in the quality of this haircut and for the lack of professionalism; if being 10 minutes late warrants the quality of this haircut, I really encourage you to just turn your customers away. The Chair was my favored salon for several years before I left the state and spent several years living down south. I had always expected to return when my husband and I re-re-located back to the cities. The salon space itself is always pleasant, welcoming, and hip without being at all overbearing or intimidating. I was way over-due for a cut in March 2020 when everything shut down, so by July I was beginning to wonder if I'd ever get my hair cut again and had begun watching some questionable YouTube tutorials. If I could cut my husband's hair why not give it a try on my own, right? So glad I didn't resort to that. Instead, The Chair Salon's open and responsible communication about their CoVid 19 policies (including careful pre-scheduling, temp checks at the door, limiting shampoo and hair drying) made me feel like I could afford to make a trip in and get my hair taken care of, even though I was VERY pregnant. All these measures being so thoughtfully developed, executed and communicated on top of an amazing haircut from Hannah made the experience actually quite relaxing. Huge, huge thanks and kudos to The Chair's ability to adapt and continue to provide great and safe service. I've been going to the Chair salon ever since I moved to the neighborhood a couple years ago and read the Yelp reviews, and I haven't been disappointed yet! Its an Aveda salon and all the stylists I've seen have been excellent. Kate is now my go-to stylist. She'is hilarious and the conversation flows so easily its like she's known you forever. I *love* this salon so much that this is my first review on yelp! I kept passing the salon on my way to the gym and the inside looked so cozy and cute from the outside. I decided to check it out and am so glad I did! As others have mentioned, the decor is very cozy and the definition of shabby-chic....plus it smells like Aveda so you can't go wrong there. The front desk staff is so friendly and always makes me feel welcome. They also offer wine or beer in addition to the usual coffee or tea and have all the best magazines :) My stylist is Joey and he is awesome! He gave me the prettiest, most natural-looking highlights I've ever had. He is newer to the salon so his rates are also really reasonable. I highly recommend him and this salon in general. read more

My hair is uneven, it has been 4 months now since I had a cut. You see I don't normally get a haircut, I would wait for almost six months to a year to get one. But it is not good for your hair to grow without a cut and care. Maybe I want to become a hipster but shh...that's my secret. So, I was having a stressful day on a Thursday, I called and made an appointment on the same day. I was surprised they had one open. I got lucky! I showed up five minutes early and the girl offered me beverage like wine, water, juice, tea or etc...first thing I wanted was wine, yep I asked for white wine cause I know red wine would make me sleepy. I go upstairs to meet my stylist, Jesse. We greeted. She was sweet and offered me to sit down in the most comfortable CHAIR ever. I was relaxed. She told me that they give complimentary massages, like on the head and shoulder parts. The minute she massaged my stressful head, I became more relaxed. Oh boy the wine and massages was kicking in...I almost fell asleep. Anyways, I didn't want to be the quiet customer so I told her the last time I got a (cheap) massage was in Cambodia. The minute I say Cambodia, she was surprised or almost happy to hear that...Then she started to tell me about her friend who goes to Cambodia every year to give massages to orphanage kids. She had mentioned that she was supposed to go to Cambodia with her friend and she taught herself a few Khmer words before the trip. I was very impressed because not many people like to learn or educate themselves before they go to different countries. Good job, Jesse! Aside from the conversations, Jesse cut my hair nicely. I asked for layers and I got it. My dull hair is finally getting some personalities. She curled my hair, too. She took her time to make sure it look good. I was a happy girl. This place makes you feel like HOME, I mean it is inside a house. Cozy and relax. The main level is where you check in and second level is where they shampooed, conditioned and cut your hair. My very first experience at The Chair was with newcomer Michele. She was so gracious and talkative and sweet and was hypervigilant about giving me a style that I really liked and that fit my habits and personality. I told her I was probably one of the few customers she'd ever have who isn't fanatical about my hair and doesn't care if it's not cut perfectly. Because, you know... hair grows back. So I gave her an amount to cut off in inches and left the rest up to Michele. She gave me a great style based on the fact that I rarely do much, if anything, to my hair aside from blowing it dry. I walked into the Chair with literally no expectations other than leaving it with shorter hair. But I walked out with one of the Top 5 short haircuts of my life. I'm writing this with mixed emotions. The Chair is a two-story salon that is decked out in a mixture of great vintage and rustic décor (I always walk away with design ideas). The owners and staff are incredibly friendly, accommodating, and professional. Hannah has been my go-to-gal for all of my styling needs. I've had variations of the same haircut for some time now, but I ALWAYS get compliments on the job Hannah does. She's also colored my hair a couple times and did a great job at making the color look natural. Bridgette always does a great job and genuinely cares about your life instead of working in silence or giving that standard meaningless small talk. Wonderful salon!! I was greeted by a wonderful host, offered wine, and a comfy chair to sit in while I waited for my stylist. They have a wonderful seating area upstairs as well. My stylist was wonderful and took her time, and didn't rush through my appointment. The stations were spread out throughout the 'house' and not scrunched together with zero privacy, like many salons are. The chairs for shampooing are leaned all the way back (you are pretty much lying down) which I have never seen before! It made for a very comfortable wash. She styled my hair afterwards because she didn't have any other appointments that day. I left feeling pampered, if not a bit tipsy. What else could you ask for?? read more

First off the decor of the place is adorable, I believe the owner did the interior design. I think I ought to have him design my place! First time having gone to this salon and will not being going back. I went there after reading a handful of good reviews. I had someone who had been there maybe 3 weeks and was at other salons prior to, so I had good expectations. I showed her a picture of what I wanted but that's not at all what I got. I have really fine thin hair and wanted a short hair cut that made it look like it has more volume. In other words, I wanted a bunch of layers and was willing to go pretty short. (My hair was jaw length going in there) I left there with and undercut with long layers over top. It didn't make any sense to me and gave me everything I didn't want. I also left with "U" shape side bangs....? I ended up going to a different shop that fixed it and the stylist was also very confused. read more

I went into the salon stressed out from the day's activities. As I walked in, I was greeted and offered an array of beverages including tea, wine (both red and white), and beer. The ambiance was relaxed and the decor was rustic. My stress started to ebb away as I spoke with Paula, who took very good care of me. She gave me an amazing scalp massage as I sipped on some red wine. When I got my hair shampooed and conditioned, I got to lay flat down instead of at an awkward angle that would normally irritate my neck after awhile. She cut my hair with care, precision, and art. I recently moved to Minneapolis, from NYC, so I didnt have my usual stylists to run to for comfort.
