He was quick to answer questions, resolve concerns, and was witty with our sarcastic comments (we were really craving those Brussels sprouts!) Great atmosphere. Calm, nicely lit steakhouse. My godparents wanted to take my husband and I out for a nice dinner since we hadn't seen them in many months. They suggested The City Square Steakhouse. My husband and I had never been, so we were down to try it! The second I saw seafood bisque on the menu, I knew what I was ordering. It's not the easiest to find any form of bisque in Ohio, let alone one with scallops, crab, and lobster. It was perfect. In fact, I am savoring the last bites of my leftovers as I type this. It reheated well! I ordered a salad to accompany the soup and opted for the Bistro Salad- Mixed Greens, Mustard Vinaigrette, Toasted Pistachios, Baked Goat Cheese Crostini. It definitely needed cheese, so I asked for some goat cheese to add. Then it was perfect. My husband got a burger and my godparents got shrimp cocktail, side salads, steak and baked potato. The petite steaks were smaller than we anticipated, but were apparently still good. They give you bread and butter for the table too. My godmother wanted dessert and insisted I get some too. She got creme brulee (which I tried. It was great). I got a special-- cranberry curd on a ginger cookie base with little meringue cookies on top. Yum! The food is amazing and it was wonderful having brunch in such a relaxing atmosphere. We had a reservation, which I highly recommend you make one of you want to eat here. We were greeted upon entering the restaurant, seated right away, and waters were brought immediately. The server was very attentive and I appreciated his enthusiasm. He was also able to answer our questions. I also recommend if you eat here for brunch, order coffee to drink with the complimentary scones. These are baked in house. The coffee was smooth and had a great balanced taste. Ordered the frittata which came with potatoes. Delicious! The potatoes were seasoned well and perfectly cooked. Enjoyed the frittata, which had a good balance of eggs to ingredients. Huge portions but save room for the butter cake, which they are known for. I used to live near Wooster and enjoyed this restaurant but didn't come here often. I recently visited for business and went for dinner. I must say that I think this could perhaps be the best steak that I have ever had. I was going to go for the filet, but my colleagues pushed me toward the bone-in ribeye. It was magical. It's huge. I finished the steak and half of the potato and then decided to call it quits. But the potato was still there...so eventually, it disappeared, too. Service and food is great here. We stopped by after night skiing in Mansfield, so it was kind of late so we had a quick dinner. I had a rack of lamp and my boyfriend had a NY strip with garlic butter and mushroom on top and mushed potatoes. I love the fact that this place give you a side of salad and a choice of side when you order a meat, I'm from LA and Miami, they are usually a la carte... The steak was perfectly cooked in medium rare and I usually don't like mushed potato's but theirs is different from regular ones, it was yellowish color, kind of sweet and left bit of potato skin and it was delicious! What an incredible gem located in Wooster! Delicious gourmet food paired with an extensive drink menu and wonderful welcoming and friendly staff! The whole place had a charming feel to it. It was mostly quiet, with quiet music playing. Our server, Robin, was warm & inviting. Very knowledgeable of the menu and made wonderful recommendations. A group of us visited City Square last Saturday. I've eaten there many times and enjoyed my experience every time. We had reservations and had to wait 25 minutes for our table. I was fine with that knowing I was going to have a great time and a wonderful meal. However, last Saturday wasn't enjoyable. The service was fantastic but my meal was horrible. The steak was the worst steak I've ever had from anywhere. Another person at our table had the same meal and her meal was just as bad. Very disappointing. Hubby & I came here for our wedding anniversary. We had reservations & were seated immediately. Our friendly server took our drink order while we perused the menu. I ordered the New Zealand Rack of Lamb which comes with a Rosemary-Port Demi-Glacé ($46) which comes with a house salad & choice of potato. I chose the loaded mashed potatoes. The house salad was good but the blue cheese dressing was runny - not thick as I expected. Hubby got the Shrimp Scampi ($26) which came with a house salad. He also ordered a side of Lobster mac & cheese ($13). Our server brought our drinks (iced tea) with no straws, iced tea spoons nor any sugar/sugar substitute packets. I pointed this out to her & she eventually came back with them. She served us fresh bread & butter which was delicious. I requested more bread which she brought but took off with my bread plate & dinner knife. These minor annoyances can be resolved with a little more training. Our food came out within 20-25. Both of us loved our dishes. My lamb was divine. Hubby loved the lobster mac & cheese. Our server brought us a complimentary dessert for our anniversary (blondie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream). It was good but I really wanted the Vanilla Bean Creme Brûlée ($9) so I ordered that. It was scrumptious. I couldn't finish my lamb so our server boxed it up for me to take home. We had a big group, had reservation, just about everyone's steak was cooked incorrectly. Some were basically raw, others way over cooked & the cuts weren't as they should've been. The manager was u sure what a filet cut looked like and said it could be the butcher. It was not a good steak at all. We were very disappointed after all the great reviews. Ended up paying almost $250 for 2 meals that were not good. We had to wait a very long time for our meals & it took over 2 1/2 hours to get food & bills paid. This place needs to quit thinking they are God's gift to Wooster. I have eaten in Michelin 5 star restaurants. Tonight we were accused of abusing our dog and the dog warden was called. First we were rudely seated because we hadn't made a reservation and the restaurant was empty. Then they told us someone had reported our dog was left in a hot car. I had them pack our food, tipped our waitress a sizable tip and. Ate in the park with our dog by our side. We will never eat in this restaurant again. Our waitress apologized to us. I was in management and had my own business in California, never do you treat customers as if they are beneath you or accuse them of. This was handled poorly and wrongly. read more

Went for a date-night on our way to Amish Country. This is a very classy place in the heart of old Wooster. As the name obvious gives away, this is pretty much everything you'd expect from a Steakhouse. Great wine and spirits selection, local/Ohio craft beers, and a very good menu, to cater to everyone... We tried the Crispy Pork Belly - it was delicious, crispy on the outside, melt-in-your-mouth delicious in the center. It was salty, but the sauce and garnish that it came with made it a perfect balance of flavor, and we could've had more of it! My wife had the French Onion soup which was amazing and very flavorful without too much bread or cheese in it... it was different, but very good, and it really showcased the french onion soup flavor ITSELF. I tried the seafood bisque and that was amazing as well. Lightly creamy, lots of good spices, and plenty of crab/lobster/scallop meat. We both had the Wedge Salad... it was good - fresh, decent size, with lots if blue cheese and some bacon crumbles and hard-boiled egg... only thing I could've had more of was the dressing. Just a bit more dressing would've done the job. The main course was delicious as well - My wife had the 8oz Center-Cut Fillet with the "chef's veggie" choice which on that day was sautéed green beans and red peppers - she said it was delicious. I had the 20oz Bone-In Ribeye with Asparagus. Both of us had the Roasted Garlic Butter which we topped our steaks with before cutting into them, and it was so delicious! Both steaks were cooked perfectly as ordered (Medium Rare) and both were delicious. Tender and juicy with just the right amount of charred broiler flavor on the outside. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because I have become a self-proclaimed "steak snob" and I have definitely had better steak for the money. That's all. Nothing bad about anything at all, it's just for similar money with similar experience, I've definitely had better steaks. I should mention our waitress, Robin, was very friendly and attentive and super personable. We got desert - butter cake - To-Go, but we haven't tried it yet so that'll have to be an update at a later time. We're so disappointed to drop our review down to three stars and we're truly hoping it was a just a very off night. We made a special point to visit from San Francisco again after our fantastic dinner in 2022 but the vibe was different. Waitstaff weren't as friendly, no one read our notes in Open Table that is was a birthday and anniversary celebration. The cocktails were much smaller and the food was very average, mine literally had 4 TINY shrimp in the pasta, and they forget to bring us bread. We had to ask our server to do something special for my mother in law which she did, but the diner dishes were not even cleared (at ALL) yet. The table was full of half eaten dinners, a bloody steak plate and empty glasses when she dropped the desserts. It felt rushed and careless, she was sadly a server who was not interested in making it a nice occasion for us. I got the feeling she was just rushing us through. We traveled 1,500 miles to be there and celebrate with local family. I have a feeling the owners have let this restaurant slip a bit while they're focusing on their new place in town. Even the beloved butter cake (which we dreamed of and raved about for a year) was barely warmed enough to be truly heavenly like before. It looked like it had been microwaved. So sad. UPDATE: Another long post, so as always, if wanting the TL;DR version, go to the bottom! So my wife and I didn't know, but this place serves brunch! Naturally, we had to try it out and we were very satisfied. Upon entering, one of the bartenders immediately recognized us and offered an incredibly welcoming and warm hello, while also guiding us to our table. Upon sitting down we were served by Ms. Taylor, who, by the way, is AMAZING! My wife and I each got a brunch drink, with the Mrs. getting an incredibly delicious Bloody Mary and myself getting the Mimosa Flight (which is four smaller Mimosas with different flavors). As we sat and drank, Taylor brought us out some delicious blueberry scones that had to have just come right out of the oven! Absolutely fantastic! For brunch the Mrs. got the traditional Eggs Benedict (it's her favorite) and I got the Ohio Chicken and Waffles. Her dish look terrific! Classic dish with amazing taste! Her only complaint that was the protein (ham or Canadian bacon...differs from place to place) was a bit thin and she would have loved a thicker piece of meat. The potatoes that came with the dish were unbelievable! Cooked to perfection and seasoned beautifully! My Ohio Chicken and Waffles was equally terrific. The chicken itself was seasoned and fried fantastically. Honestly, the spiced honey sauce it comes with isn't needed with the way the chicken tastes, but with it...oh boy it's a whole new level of flavor. The spice was just right to get my nose watering, while keeping my tongue in a tingly state. The chicken was so juicy and piping hot that I just could not get enough of it! The waffles were almost like a pillowy cake that just perfectly compliments the savory taste of the chicken with a not-too-sweet batter. It also came with a fresh cup of fruit, which my wife mostly ate (I took some of her potatoes), but what I did eat was fresh and juicy. All in all, it was a spectacular brunch with amazing food! Highly recommend! TL;DR - Brunch is just as great as their dinner options, Taylor is AWESOME and I cannot recommend this place enough! read more
