Butter cake. Is there anything else that needs to be spoken?!? Butter cake is a thing my dreams are made of. It is warm. It is a beautiful fluffy texture that is saturated with flavor and absolutely melts in your mouth. This place is a fancy restaurant that we snuck into on a day off. We didn't have reservations but were able to be accommodated quickly without one. The steak was good but not anything I feel like needs to be focused on (I know a steak house) I got the delmonico and honestly I wasn't impressed at all. My partners was delicious though so I think it was just a matter of the cut I got. We got the artichoke dip and it was good too but nothing out of this world. But the butter cake. I would pay $65 for a steak I didn't even finish for that butter cake any day of my life. So yes this is a 5 star review of a place I had average (now my average is likely ground breaking food... I am a true food snob) food at and paid $200 for the meal without alcohol, because of the butter cake. Other notes: our server was awesome too and the ambiance is definitely ON POINT! After an absolutely full day that started at 0400 in the morning, my wife and I took mom out for dinner to wrap up our day. We arrived 1530, as they open at 1500 believe we were the only people in the house besides staff. Blake was our server. Must say that he did a terrific job taking care of us. There was a couple moments where it seemed like the bar service was holding him back, but we did not down check him for that. We decided on cocktails, a pickletini for me and mom ordered a tropical paradise. We also ordered an appetizer of spinach, artichoke dip at the same time. Blake brought our appetizer and apologized that our bar order was not ready yet. In fact, we were over halfway through our appetizer before our drinks arrived. Not Blake's fault, but the bartender was not doing him any favors. For our main course, mom decided on soup and salad, their seafood bisque and bistro salad. My wife decided on the lemon chicken with a Caesar salad while I decided on the petite filet Oscar style with loaded mashed potatoes. I ordered a glass of Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon to go with my steak. It took a while for our dinner to come out of the kitchen, that said it was well presented and perfectly cooked! My steak was a perfect medium rare and I was happy that there was asparagus with my Oscar Style! My wife really enjoyed her lemon chicken and sautéed vegetables. I tried bites of both and they were absolutely delicious! My mom raved about all of the seafood in the bisque. She also ate all of the salad which surprise us. We are happy to set in the far dining room at a four top. We really enjoyed the paintings on the wall as well as the staged photograph of The Restaurant. Last night we visited what is positioned as a local high-end steakhouse for a business dinner. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of what the price point and reputation suggest. The meal started poorly and never really recovered. The lamb chops were undersized for the price, leaving the impression that the plate was built more around presentation than value. The pork belly was especially disappointing. It was so tough it could not be cut cleanly with a knife and had to be pulled apart in layers just to eat it. A salad dressing that was requested never arrived. The entrées were the biggest letdown. Four steaks at the table were overcooked. My $65 Delmonico was particularly disappointing. It looked and tasted like an overcooked pork chop from the 1970s rather than a properly prepared premium steak. At this level, temperature and execution should not be questionable. They should be the baseline. The sides did not help. The steamed vegetables were cooked well past the point of being enjoyable. The yellow squash was so soft and mushy that the only real clue it was squash was the skin. Because this was a business dinner, most of the group simply made the best of it and ate what was served rather than disrupt the evening. But after spending around $500, the disappointment was hard to ignore. A restaurant charging high-end steakhouse prices has to deliver more than a nice room and a premium menu. It has to execute. Literally the only reason I stop here is for the seafood bisque. I make a point of pulling off the highway everytime Im passing wooster to grab myself a bowl. If you would like to wait 2.5 hours for cold meat of average taste to be delivered to your table this is your place!!!!! Had the rack of lamb done medium. Temp was tepid to cold, delivered 44 minutes after salad and at least an hour after bread. Horrific. Takes about 15 minutes to get a draft beer order from the bar. read more

My godparents wanted to take my husband and I out for a nice dinner since we hadn't seen them in many months. They suggested The City Square Steakhouse. My husband and I had never been, so we were down to try it! The second I saw seafood bisque on the menu, I knew what I was ordering. It's not the easiest to find any form of bisque in Ohio, let alone one with scallops, crab, and lobster. It was perfect. In fact, I am savoring the last bites of my leftovers as I type this. It reheated well! I ordered a salad to accompany the soup and opted for the Bistro Salad- Mixed Greens, Mustard Vinaigrette, Toasted Pistachios, Baked Goat Cheese Crostini. It definitely needed cheese, so I asked for some goat cheese to add. Then it was perfect. My husband got a burger and my godparents got shrimp cocktail, side salads, steak and baked potato. The petite steaks were smaller than we anticipated, but were apparently still good. They give you bread and butter for the table too. My godmother wanted dessert and insisted I get some too. She got creme brulee (which I tried. It was great). I got a special-- cranberry curd on a ginger cookie base with little meringue cookies on top. I used to live near Wooster and enjoyed this restaurant but didn't come here often. I recently visited for business and went for dinner. I must say that I think this could perhaps be the best steak that I have ever had. I was going to go for the filet, but my colleagues pushed me toward the bone-in ribeye. It was magical. It's huge. I finished the steak and half of the potato and then decided to call it quits. But the potato was still there...so eventually, it disappeared, too. Service and food is great here. I love the fact that this place give you a side of salad and a choice of side when you order a meat, I'm from LA and Miami, they are usually a la carte... The steak was perfectly cooked in medium rare and I usually don't like mushed potato's but theirs is different from regular ones, it was yellowish color, kind of sweet and left bit of potato skin and it was delicious! What an incredible gem located in Wooster! Delicious gourmet food paired with an extensive drink menu and wonderful welcoming and friendly staff! The whole place had a charming feel to it. Hubby & I came here for our wedding anniversary. We had reservations & were seated immediately. Our friendly server took our drink order while we perused the menu. I ordered the New Zealand Rack of Lamb which comes with a Rosemary-Port Demi-Glacé ($46) which comes with a house salad & choice of potato. I chose the loaded mashed potatoes. The house salad was good but the blue cheese dressing was runny - not thick as I expected. Hubby got the Shrimp Scampi ($26) which came with a house salad. He also ordered a side of Lobster mac & cheese ($13). Our server brought our drinks (iced tea) with no straws, iced tea spoons nor any sugar/sugar substitute packets. I pointed this out to her & she eventually came back with them. She served us fresh bread & butter which was delicious. I requested more bread which she brought but took off with my bread plate & dinner knife. These minor annoyances can be resolved with a little more training. Our food came out within 20-25. Both of us loved our dishes. My lamb was divine. Hubby loved the lobster mac & cheese. Our server brought us a complimentary dessert for our anniversary (blondie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream). It was good but I really wanted the Vanilla Bean Creme Brûlée ($9) so I ordered that. It was scrumptious. I couldn't finish my lamb so our server boxed it up for me to take home. A group of us visited City Square last Saturday. I've eaten there many times and enjoyed my experience every time. We had reservations and had to wait 25 minutes for our table. I was fine with that knowing I was going to have a great time and a wonderful meal. However, last Saturday wasn't enjoyable. The service was fantastic but my meal was horrible. The steak was the worst steak I've ever had from anywhere. Another person at our table had the same meal and her meal was just as bad. Very disappointing. First we were rudely seated because we hadn't made a reservation and the restaurant was empty. Then they told us someone had reported our dog was left in a hot car. I had them pack our food, tipped our waitress a sizable tip and. Ate in the park with our dog by our side. We will never eat in this restaurant again. Our waitress apologized to us. Went for a date-night on our way to Amish Country. This is a very classy place in the heart of old Wooster. As the name obvious gives away, this is pretty much everything you'd expect from a Steakhouse. Great wine and spirits selection, local/Ohio craft beers, and a very good menu, to cater to everyone... We tried the Crispy Pork Belly - it was delicious, crispy on the outside, melt-in-your-mouth delicious in the center. It was salty, but the sauce and garnish that it came with made it a perfect balance of flavor, and we could've had more of it! My wife had the French Onion soup which was amazing and very flavorful without too much bread or cheese in it... it was different, but very good, and it really showcased the french onion soup flavor ITSELF. I tried the seafood bisque and that was amazing as well. Lightly creamy, lots of good spices, and plenty of crab/lobster/scallop meat. We both had the Wedge Salad... it was good - fresh, decent size, with lots if blue cheese and some bacon crumbles and hard-boiled egg... only thing I could've had more of was the dressing. Just a bit more dressing would've done the job. The main course was delicious as well - My wife had the 8oz Center-Cut Fillet with the "chef's veggie" choice which on that day was sautéed green beans and red peppers - she said it was delicious. I had the 20oz Bone-In Ribeye with Asparagus. Both of us had the Roasted Garlic Butter which we topped our steaks with before cutting into them, and it was so delicious! Both steaks were cooked perfectly as ordered (Medium Rare) and both were delicious. Tender and juicy with just the right amount of charred broiler flavor on the outside. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because I have become a self-proclaimed "steak snob" and I have definitely had better steak for the money. That's all. Nothing bad about anything at all, it's just for similar money with similar experience, I've definitely had better steaks. I should mention our waitress, Robin, was very friendly and attentive and super personable. We got desert - butter cake - To-Go, but we haven't tried it yet so that'll have to be an update at a later time. We're so disappointed to drop our review down to three stars and we're truly hoping it was a just a very off night. We made a special point to visit from San Francisco again after our fantastic dinner in 2022 but the vibe was different. Waitstaff weren't as friendly, no one read our notes in Open Table that is was a birthday and anniversary celebration. The cocktails were much smaller and the food was very average, mine literally had 4 TINY shrimp in the pasta, and they forget to bring us bread. We had to ask our server to do something special for my mother in law which she did, but the diner dishes were not even cleared (at ALL) yet. The table was full of half eaten dinners, a bloody steak plate and empty glasses when she dropped the desserts. It felt rushed and careless, she was sadly a server who was not interested in making it a nice occasion for us. I got the feeling she was just rushing us through. We traveled 1,500 miles to be there and celebrate with local family. I have a feeling the owners have let this restaurant slip a bit while they're focusing on their new place in town. Even the beloved butter cake (which we dreamed of and raved about for a year) was barely warmed enough to be truly heavenly like before. It looked like it had been microwaved. So sad. My wife's cousin brought us here recently, and for good reason...they make a really solid steak! The four of us met for a weekend meal and a few drinks as we planned some upcoming vacation trips together. I had a bourbon on the rocks as we waited for the soups to arrive. The table was also brought out a basket of warm dinner rolls, served with a whipped butter. Their bisque was filled with chopped seafood and was nice and creamy; it was a great starter! The mixed greens salad was served with a homemade ranch dressing (my choice) and was topped with tomatoes and croutons. I ordered the NY strip steak, which was cooked a perfect medium rare and topped with garlic butter (a lot of garlic butter!). The steak was delicious, and that pungent topping just added to the overall flavor (did I mention you need to order the garlic butter topper?). Unfortunately, the Yukon gold mashed potatoes served on the side were a bit "gummy", but that is a minor flaw to pick at. For dessert, my cousin-in-law had the creme brulee, which I tried; it was creamy and smooth with a great "shell" on top of caramelized sugar. UPDATE: Another long post, so as always, if wanting the TL;DR version, go to the bottom! So my wife and I didn't know, but this place serves brunch! Naturally, we had to try it out and we were very satisfied. Upon entering, one of the bartenders immediately recognized us and offered an incredibly welcoming and warm hello, while also guiding us to our table. Upon sitting down we were served by Ms. Taylor, who, by the way, is AMAZING! My wife and I each got a brunch drink, with the Mrs. getting an incredibly delicious Bloody Mary and myself getting the Mimosa Flight (which is four smaller Mimosas with different flavors). As we sat and drank, Taylor brought us out some delicious blueberry scones that had to have just come right out of the oven! Absolutely fantastic! For brunch the Mrs. got the traditional Eggs Benedict (it's her favorite) and I got the Ohio Chicken and Waffles. Her dish look terrific! Classic dish with amazing taste! Her only complaint that was the protein (ham or Canadian bacon...differs from place to place) was a bit thin and she would have loved a thicker piece of meat. The potatoes that came with the dish were unbelievable! Cooked to perfection and seasoned beautifully! My Ohio Chicken and Waffles was equally terrific. The chicken itself was seasoned and fried fantastically. Honestly, the spiced honey sauce it comes with isn't needed with the way the chicken tastes, but with it...oh boy it's a whole new level of flavor. The spice was just right to get my nose watering, while keeping my tongue in a tingly state. The chicken was so juicy and piping hot that I just could not get enough of it! The waffles were almost like a pillowy cake that just perfectly compliments the savory taste of the chicken with a not-too-sweet batter. It also came with a fresh cup of fruit, which my wife mostly ate (I took some of her potatoes), but what I did eat was fresh and juicy. All in all, it was a spectacular brunch with amazing food!
