I love Color Me Mine, and this location is one of my favorites to go to! It does get really busy,…read moreso a reservation (or at least calling ahead to see if they can hold seats on the day of) is pretty much a must. The Brea location has more seating than other locations I've been to, which makes it a bit more forgiving if you try to do a walk-in. Reservations are made online and cost $5/person, which goes towards your total. From a large palette, you choose five colors. Sometimes if a friend and I want to use the same color, we'll just put it on one person's plate, which ends up giving us more color options overall! There's also a guide on each table with tips for different ceramic painting techniques. There's a cup of various styles and sizes of paintbrushes, and you can also request for a thin bottle for writing or detail-work. You get two hours to paint, but I've never felt rushed with either picking my piece or during the actual painting process. The staff here are always so attentive, courteous, and helpful, which makes the whole experience even better. I've noticed that when it gets super busy and you need a paint refill and someone hasn't come by, don't be afraid to raise your hand or walk over to someone, everyone is super friendly. They have a great selection of pottery, and you just pay the price of your piece plus the flat studio fee. The space is clean, and I love that they also offer outdoor seating. Since it's right in the middle of downtown Brea, it's fun to people watch and enjoy the vibe outside on a warm day. They'll occasionally have special events or deals too, like student nights with a discounted studio fee. With its central location in downtown Brea, it's such a perfect spot to catch up with friends, celebrate a birthday, or have a cute date!

There is a ton to choose from and they come in all different prices. Once we picked our pottery, we picked our paint, and provided pain brushes. We were checked on often and provided paint refills, the service was terrific. We had small talk with the ladies and they all have great, which made the experience that much more fun. I can't wait for our pottery to be baked (whatever it's called) so we can see our finished products.

I will definitely return for a girls night or just a night out of the house. Super clean, friendly staff, easy parking in the connecting lot. You can also bring in any of your own food and drink! All the employees are helpful and kind. They check in a right amount, and do a great job not making you feel rushed. 10/10 environment. Their pieces change through the year, so it's nice to come back and find seasonal things to paint. They close at 9:00pm, but we've found ourselves here for a few hours, so plan accordingly! The only downsides I've found are after the firing process is done. Some of our old pieces from when we first came a few years ago have crazing, which makes the pottery unsafe for food or drink. If your piece is for decoration, it should be fine. I haven't noticed it on newer pieces, so they may have adjusted the way their fire them. The second thing is that all my pieces, new and old, have pin marks from being supported in the kiln. It prevents a smooth surface, but also, I've noticed it's an entry way for moisture, which makes it unsafe for food and drink. One of my pieces held onto moisture after washing it because of the pin holes. All this to say, it doesn't deter us from visiting. We still love coming to Kitsch and will continue to visit. Its a great place to catch up, go on a date, or just hang out.

When we arrived, they told me there is also a mandatory 18% gratuity. First, that is legally supposed to be disclosed clearly and in advance which it was not. The kids picked out their paint colors and then we found out that your location was out of (six) different colors that they wanted and they had to settle for less appealing options. The attendants were slow to replenish the paint and acted like it was an inconvenience, even though they were getting a "mandatory gratuity". They could have been nicer and more friendly. One of the colors they "replenished" was not the same color as we got at the beginning even though we asked for the same color # and the attendant even checked the # to make sure, and one of the kids ending up having two different colors of paint in one section of her ceramic piece that she was really disappointed about. When we asked the attendant how we could fix it, she said she didn't know and literally walked away mid-conversation to help someone else. She clearly did not care about our party once we sat down. My bill was almost $300 and the mandatory gratuity was $49.32 which was absolutely not worth the service we got. I doubt we would come back to your store since we never had this issue at Color Me Mine.

Working with clay requires patience, creativity, and real time problem solving, which has been such a wonderful experience for her. I especially love that pottery teaches her to embrace the process rather than expect instant gratification. There's no rushing to a finished product...you have to work through each step, learn from mistakes, and sometimes figure out how to solve a problem when things don't go as planned. It has been so rewarding to watch her challenge herself, develop new skills, and become more confident in her ability to work through frustration and find solutions. These are skills that extend far beyond the studio, and I'm so grateful she has a place where she can develop them while doing something she genuinely enjoys. The staff are also amazing and clearly passionate about what they do. You can tell how much they care about the kids and their creative growth. We highly recommend Mud Hen Clay and Art Studio! My wife got out of the car and was at the door inside that window. They wouldn't let her in without me, and I was still parking. I walked in 11 minutes after the start -- one minute past their cutoff. There were maybe four to six people in the room. I explained the family situation involving my son. I told them it was our anniversary. My wife was distraught, and I pleaded with them and tried to reason with them. They turned us away anyway. We weren't asking anyone to slow the class down or stay late -- we would have caught up on our own. My wife left humiliated on the day she had planned as a gift. I get it -- you have to run a business, and you have to start on time. But she was there inside the window you gave us and you wouldn't seat her. It came down to one minute and two people standing in front of you, and you chose the minute. The class started without us. So did the last impression I'll have of this place.

What a wonderful experience. Clay Cafe is absolutely mom-and-daughter approved!…read more I originally came across the idea of painting pottery while visiting Vista, California. I wanted to do something different and special with my mom, who is almost 80, incredibly active, full of spirit, and has worked hard her entire life. She had never really been in a setting where she could simply sit down, paint, and explore her creative side, so I wanted to surprise her with something new. While we were still in Vista, we briefly parked and I started looking up pottery-painting places closer to the LA County area. That is when I came across Clay Cafe. We were already beginning our drive back toward home, so I decided to take a chance on it even though it was still about 30 minutes from us. I'm so glad I did. This is a family-owned business run by a mother-and-daughters team who are artists themselves, and you can really feel the care they've put into the space. They were welcoming, helpful, patient, and genuinely kind from the moment we walked in. We picked out our pottery and ended up spending almost THREE HOURS painting! The time flew by because we were having such a great time together. There are plenty of paints, tools, and creative options, and the guidance they provide is wonderful without making you feel rushed. They also have a cafe next door with coffee, cookies, and other goodies. If you have a sweet tooth, definitely try the cookies--they are huge! We enjoyed iced coffee and a cappuccino while we were there. I will say that this isn't the cheapest pottery-painting experience, but I felt the quality, materials, tools, atmosphere, and assistance made it worth it. My shark piggy bank was around $60 and my mom chose a vase around $50, so with everything we spent roughly $130-$140 for the two of us, depending of course on what pottery you choose. After you finish painting, they glaze and fire your pieces. They took our contact information, and about two weeks later we received a text letting us know everything was ready. We picked up our finished pottery today and were SO happy with how it turned out. They welcome walk-ins, although I would recommend making a reservation, especially if you want to settle in and really enjoy the experience. Parking was also easy since they are in a small plaza shared with 7-Eleven. They also host fun events, including a plant bingo where you can apparently win plants, so definitely check their current schedule. For me, though, the best part was simply getting to sit across from my mom, paint together, laugh, talk, and watch her creative side come out. That memory alone was worth every penny. Wonderful family-owned business, wonderful people, and such a fun experience. We will absolutely be back.

To get started, you can use a pencil to draw, tracing paper for a printed design, stickers as stencils, or even lace for cool designs. After painting, you'll come back in a week to pick up the piece after they glaze it. A group of five of us came for a fun girls' day and spent about two-ish hours painting and gabbing. The staff were so nice in giving us a mini-orientation and even helping us out when we made the dreaded paint mistake! It's a great spot for friends, kids, a date, or a solo outing if you want to be creative. They have a complimentary parking lot, otherwise, there's metered parking and free street parking in the neighborhoods across Wilshire. Tips: - You can see their current inventory online and they can order you a specific piece if you give them a month's heads up. - For words or numbers, bring your own stickers. Otherwise, you can purchase theirs and they have lace for sale too. - Check out their Instagram for inspiration! - For the non-artistic types, I highly recommend printing out a design you want in advance. You can trace it directly on a plate or the like and then just paint it with colors (or pick something easy like an animal to paint). Have fun!
