We visited ArtTime Barro in Laguna Beach using a Groupon for a 1-hour class as a fun activity to do together. It was my first time trying pottery and my wife's second, and it turned out to be a great experience. The class started right on time. I walked in with no idea of what to make, but by the end I completed one piece on the wheel and another using hand-building. The instructor was extremely friendly, patient, and helpful, which made the experience enjoyable even for a complete beginner. They'll email us later to choose colors for glazing, which is a nice touch. Street parking is paid, but if you don't mind a short walk, there's free parking nearby. The surrounding neighborhood is lively and vibrant, making it perfect to stroll around before or after the class.

We signed up for the one-time adult pottery class and had a great experience at the Laguna Beach studio! For $50 the class includes the opportunity to make one hand built item, one wheel-thrown item, and the chance to come back and glaze your pieces! Parking is quite limited but it's in a very central location with lots of options for shopping and food nearby after class. The instructors are super helpful and knowledgeable, and the class sizes are small (capped at 5 participants I think) so we received lots of personalized and hands-on guidance. The glaze colors that they offer are also gorgeous, and microwave/dishwasher safe!

Fantastic! My better half booked this pottery class for the two of us and two of our friends as none of us ever threw pottery like this. Anika was instrumental in properly instructing us and making sure we were on track. Yes, an hour only and quite intense but 100% worth it. Highly recommended!

Love love love this place. Have gone twice now, once with a friend and once with my daughter. I wish we lived closer as I would be very interested in their membership! Highly recommend. Great space and great teachers

There's metered parking on the street but I parked in the public lot 12. Luckily on my way to pay for my spot a couple gave me their all day parking. Passed it forward and gave my parking stub for all day to another family when I came back. If you cross the street from the lot and make a right and continue down left you'll find the pottery studio. You can buy pottery but I was there for a 1 hour class that was gifted to me and my partner. The class didn't start away since the pottery teacher was still working with a couple from the previous class. We didn't have a long wait though. Prior to class starting there's a rack where you can hang your jacket, bags, etc. You'll put on an apron next to the rack because it can get messy but I was able to leave clothes unscathed. It takes months to get good at the pottery but the process was fun. We kneaded the clay to prevent air bubbles. A second clay is pre-kneaded. We made a planter and plate in one hour. Nicole was really helpful explaining and helping us fix issues that arose during the process. It'll take 4 weeks before you can pick up your pieces. You get to pick the glaze (color). It's a very soothing process even if you botch your pottery. Don't expect perfection the first time around. I would recommend this experience to anyone who wants to try something new.

What a fun time I had at my very first pottery workshop! It was something I always wanted to do and I'm so glad I did. I appreciate all the pre-class communication, the clear instructions and that our instructor even laughed at my stupid jokes. Thanks for taking photos and helping make the afternoon memorable. I'm certain I'll be back!

Pieces we made for beginner class.

So quiet and close quarters so it's easier to learn and follow along. Very beginner friendly but also very easy to build on for more advanced techniques. The option to come back and paint your pieces for the beginner class is amazing too. Loved it, will be purchasing another class.

SO COOOOL! This experience was gifted to me for my birthday. It was $45 for a one hour session in which you were able to create a small bowl and a cup. We got to make the cup on the wheel which was awesome. After 2-3 weeks you're able to return to paint your pieces and it is included in the initial price. The instructor was very sweet and attentive (I can't remember her name but she was blonde and had cute green eyeliner lol). The class was with another couple, so four people total. It made for an intimate experience. The price was incredible. Similar experiences were easily over $100 per person. Would definitely go back.

Taking a pottery class had been at the top of my list of hobbies to try out for the longest time and I'm beyond glad that I went with ARTime Barro!! My friend and I took an early morning class to make small planters and dishes. It ended up just being the two of us and we had the best time! Our instructor was super welcoming, funny, and informative. For our particular class, we got to pick a glaze color and they glazed and fired it for us. It was ready for pick up a few weeks later. A great deal for such a hands-on class! Couldn't have asked for a better first experience. The studio itself is really cute, but on the smaller side. Parking can also be quite the challenge. If you're lucky, there are a few spots out front, but they tend to get snatched up pretty fast.

1st on the spinner thingy, not bad!

We loved it! So much fun! The instructor and staff were so friendly. We liked the two couples we were with, laughed a lot. Awesome date night. Really loved seeing my hubby's creative side come out!! We liked it so much that we will take our moms with us next time. My hubby wants another crack at the spinning thing! Highly recommended.

When we arrived, they told me there is also a mandatory 18% gratuity. First, that is legally supposed to be disclosed clearly and in advance which it was not. The kids picked out their paint colors and then we found out that your location was out of (six) different colors that they wanted and they had to settle for less appealing options. The attendants were slow to replenish the paint and acted like it was an inconvenience, even though they were getting a "mandatory gratuity". They could have been nicer and more friendly. One of the colors they "replenished" was not the same color as we got at the beginning even though we asked for the same color # and the attendant even checked the # to make sure, and one of the kids ending up having two different colors of paint in one section of her ceramic piece that she was really disappointed about. When we asked the attendant how we could fix it, she said she didn't know and literally walked away mid-conversation to help someone else. She clearly did not care about our party once we sat down. My bill was almost $300 and the mandatory gratuity was $49.32 which was absolutely not worth the service we got. I doubt we would come back to your store since we never had this issue at Color Me Mine.

My wife got out of the car and was at the door inside that window. They wouldn't let her in without me, and I was still parking. I walked in 11 minutes after the start -- one minute past their cutoff. There were maybe four to six people in the room. I explained the family situation involving my son. I told them it was our anniversary. My wife was distraught, and I pleaded with them and tried to reason with them. They turned us away anyway. We weren't asking anyone to slow the class down or stay late -- we would have caught up on our own. My wife left humiliated on the day she had planned as a gift. If you plan to park in the Sawdust lot, I'd recommend getting there very early. We had no trouble finding parking about an hour before Sawdust opened, then grabbed breakfast nearby. There are also cheaper lots within walking distance. I did find the prices to be very expensive overall. You have to pay to park, to get in, pay for food and drinks, pay for the art, and so on. There was even a tip jar in the very clean bathrooms! I'm not sure if this is because it's an expensive area or just a reflection of the current economy, but I definitely felt like I was being nickel-and-dimed. If you're just going to look around, you can get away with only paying the entry fee and parking. I was disappointed to find that not all of the artists were there, and the policies regarding purchasing art at the front of Sawdust weren't very clear and seemed to vary from booth to booth.

The clay studio was also so cool - 15 min at a wheel with substantial help (if you want it) to create something cool to take home.
