For Christmas our kids gave us vouchers for a free pottery class since we are always looking for new experiences. We had a lot of fun in search of our creative inner self and I think we found it. Keep in mind it will take three visits before you have possession in the final creation. The first class is to create two pieces, one by hand and the other using a pottery wheel. The second visit is to glaze your pieces if you choose to paint it yourself and the third time is to pick up your creations, each session occurs about every 2-3 weeks depending on when you make your appointments. I of course don't mind this a bit since it gives us a chance to spend an afternoon in Laguna Beach with every visit! We can't wait to see our finished product in a couple weeks. read more

We visited ArtTime Barro in Laguna Beach using a Groupon for a 1-hour class as a fun activity to do together. It was my first time trying pottery and my wife's second, and it turned out to be a great experience. The class started right on time. I walked in with no idea of what to make, but by the end I completed one piece on the wheel and another using hand-building. The instructor was extremely friendly, patient, and helpful, which made the experience enjoyable even for a complete beginner. They'll email us later to choose colors for glazing, which is a nice touch. Street parking is paid, but if you don't mind a short walk, there's free parking nearby. The surrounding neighborhood is lively and vibrant, making it perfect to stroll around before or after the class. read more

We signed up for the one-time adult pottery class and had a great experience at the Laguna Beach studio! For $50 the class includes the opportunity to make one hand built item, one wheel-thrown item, and the chance to come back and glaze your pieces! Parking is quite limited but it's in a very central location with lots of options for shopping and food nearby after class. The instructors are super helpful and knowledgeable, and the class sizes are small (capped at 5 participants I think) so we received lots of personalized and hands-on guidance. The glaze colors that they offer are also gorgeous, and microwave/dishwasher safe! read more

Been to this place twice in the past 6 months. It's a splurge to pay $50-$65 for an hour of activity but it's worth it for me. Used Groupon. Creating a couple little ceramic pieces of art in an hour is something I could do weekly. You need to return at a later date to glaze your pieces (or the staff will glaze them for you if you ask). The studio staff are excellent in every way. Kind and helpful. Organized and well spoken. Next time I'll remember to give a tip. Downtown Laguna is a popular place so give yourself extra travel & parking time. We got lucky last time and found a metered space across the street from the studio. $2.50 an hour no problem. read more

There's metered parking on the street but I parked in the public lot 12. Luckily on my way to pay for my spot a couple gave me their all day parking. Passed it forward and gave my parking stub for all day to another family when I came back. If you cross the street from the lot and make a right and continue down left you'll find the pottery studio. You can buy pottery but I was there for a 1 hour class that was gifted to me and my partner. The class didn't start away since the pottery teacher was still working with a couple from the previous class. We didn't have a long wait though. Prior to class starting there's a rack where you can hang your jacket, bags, etc. You'll put on an apron next to the rack because it can get messy but I was able to leave clothes unscathed. It takes months to get good at the pottery but the process was fun. We kneaded the clay to prevent air bubbles. A second clay is pre-kneaded. We made a planter and plate in one hour. Nicole was really helpful explaining and helping us fix issues that arose during the process. It'll take 4 weeks before you can pick up your pieces. You get to pick the glaze (color). It's a very soothing process even if you botch your pottery. Don't expect perfection the first time around. I would recommend this experience to anyone who wants to try something new. read more

SO COOOOL! This experience was gifted to me for my birthday. It was $45 for a one hour session in which you were able to create a small bowl and a cup. We got to make the cup on the wheel which was awesome. After 2-3 weeks you're able to return to paint your pieces and it is included in the initial price. The instructor was very sweet and attentive (I can't remember her name but she was blonde and had cute green eyeliner lol). The class was with another couple, so four people total. It made for an intimate experience. The price was incredible. Similar experiences were easily over $100 per person. Would definitely go back. read more

Taking a pottery class had been at the top of my list of hobbies to try out for the longest time and I'm beyond glad that I went with ARTime Barro!! My friend and I took an early morning class to make small planters and dishes. It ended up just being the two of us and we had the best time! Our instructor was super welcoming, funny, and informative. For our particular class, we got to pick a glaze color and they glazed and fired it for us. It was ready for pick up a few weeks later. A great deal for such a hands-on class! Couldn't have asked for a better first experience. The studio itself is really cute, but on the smaller side. Parking can also be quite the challenge. We had a great beginner session with Kailey this week. Kailey got us stuck in straight away and guided on our technique for the punch bowl then the wheel. She was on hand to fix our wheel mistakes and was positive and engaged throughout. I'll be back to glaze soon. We'd have liked to have got a bit more education about how the clay & slip behave, more suggestions up front about what we might want to make and how to do that best to avoid disappointment at our creations. Also on the wheel based on what we wanted (a high bowl or a wide bowl for example) Kailey gave advice but jumped in to keep things in line, it would have been great to be educated first and during on what pushing in different places would make the clay do, so that maybe we could save them ourselves or at least fail and learn. Nothing wrong at all just personal taste for a class. Will be back again for sure! read more

I booked a class for our family of four, several weeks ago and credit card charged. Yesterday I even got an email notification from them confirming today's session. We are all very much excited for this class and planned our day to be spent in the area of Laguna Beach. An email sent out at 2am this morning, the same day as the would be class, saying the class of all four is canceled with no reason given. The email said to call them for a refund. Upon speaking to them I was told the reason was an overlap in scheduling. Well, then why was I not given a notice earlier since I booked this weeks ago? Why cancel on the day of? read more
