This was my first time here. I was here with my family of five including two elementary school children. If it were human, the Clayton Theatre in Dagsboro would be well past the age for collecting Social Security. But owner Joanne Howe has no plans for the theater to retire anytime soon. The landmark theater celebrated its 75th anniversary. The theater is open seven days a week. The Clayton is rare for being the only single-screen theater in Delaware that consistently shows first-run films. The older people that come love it, because it reminds them of their old theaters. The theater seats 350 people. The Clayton Theatre offers today's moviegoers a rare opportunity to see first-run movies in a charming hometown atmosphere. They offer fresh popcorn, ice-cold sodas, and a vast array of the most popular concession candies. I was amazed that the theater was very nice and not run down. We purchased some popcorn, drinks and snacks. I was here with my family of five including two elementary school children for $56. I was expecting a smaller theater, but was surprised by the size and updated design inside the theater. It was very nice and comfortable. See my pics. Very few people were here Wednesday night for the 7 PM showing of Karate Kid: Legends. I enjoyed the movie and my movie viewing here because the theater was not crowded. This lovely theater represents everything that is right about going to the movies! Going to an historic theater just makes the experience so fulfilling. I absolutely love this place! The staff is wonderful and will have a conversation with you. They obviously want their customers to have a great time. The refreshments are plentiful and reasonably priced. In the balcony, you can see old-fashioned movie equipment and classic movie posters. What a great immersive experience! We drove from Fenwick Island to see American Underdog, a film that was hard to find--even at other theaters in the DC area. Check out this lovely theater. It's worth a drive. Went to see "80 for Brady" last night which was my very first time at this theatre. I was really skeptical based on the exterior of the theatre. I felt like I was traveling back in time to when I was a kid going to my hometown movie theatre. One concession stand, one box office, 1 bathroom and 1 movie playing on one screen! It was a wonderful experience and not to mention a funny movie. It's so cute and clean with friendly staff, good popcorn and fountain drinks. Bought our tickets online but my phone was dead when I got to the theatre. I had no proof I purchased the tickets, however; the lady at the box office had a list with everyone's name that bought online and let us right in. That's not going to happen where I'm from in FL. You don't have proof of purchase you won't get in. I loved the fact I was able to support this small business in the town of Dagsboro, DE and not a huge studio with 50% of the nations market share. Locals and everyone visiting the Delaware beaches has to go to this great lil movie theatre. Enjoy! read more

This was a very nice experience and they have the best popcorn! It brought us back to the old theaters from the 60's.

Great place to go/ comfy seats and hardly ever crowded. I think it had a major refurbishing two years ago. Locally owned!!!

The popcorn prices are ridiculous for the amount you get. And you do not get a refill on the large. Great old theater but skip the popcorn. read more

A great Deco theater! The new owners have done a fantastic job improving an already wonderful place to see a movie.

This place is so cool! Drove over to see a classic film showing (the Clayton Classics on Mondays) of After the Thin Man, a movie from the late 1930s. You can see the classic neon marquee from miles away when driving into town. Get to the theatre and you buy your ticket from the booth before entering. Popcorn, candy, and soda are available as soon as entering. The prices are great! This isn't fancy food, it's classic theatre fare and it does that quite well. The theatre itself has old seats, old lighting, old everything. It's very cool and classic. The signage all appears to be original to the theatre's opening in the 1940s. The showing was preceded by a short talk on the film's background. Then the showing. Just a fun time, can't say enough good about this place. read more

Genuine vintage single-cinema movie theater. It usually plays movies a week or two after they've been released, but if it's a major movie they usually get it the first night. Inside it looks pretty weathered (the ceiling, the walls, the floor, etc). It's really cheap though, so I suppose you get what you pay for. read more

This is a lovely old movie house that shows classic films on Monday evening as well as first run movies the rest of the week. A local gem.
