One can walk a substantial distance in either direction and be treated to canal views and river views. Notably, a waterfall and pond running off of the canal are near here. It's a pretty area, and while he parking lot will be crowded on a nice day I've never had any trouble getting a space and once you get out on the trail it's usually quite pleasant.

I did not see any, but I expect there must be some. This particular bit of park is not on the waterfront and is not that aesthetically distinctive, but it is connected with the greenway trail that goes to several useful places, as well as being next to a sporting venue. Been here few times and it can get pretty crowded during the late afternoon with people taking their evening stroll, runners, bikers. There is also a kayak renting area. I've seen groups rent out kayaks and leisurely make their way down the river. The park serves many recreational purposes, highly recommend checking it out. They have few rest rooms that are well kept and managed with even a medical emergency supply room incase of any incidents. The grounds are kept very clean too and lots of public parking available. Disclaimer, lots of nats flying around once weather warms up.

Park in the gravel lot across the street from the Apartments looking onto SRP park. A bit farther but plenty of parking space.

It took me a minute to find this trailhead even with the signs, but there are enough people around…read morethat someone will point you in the right direction. If you are not an Intermediate skilled rider I would highly advise look before you leap. Literally!!! At this entrance, past the sign about 10 meters is a triple stairstep like hill going down which converges to a singletrack line in the woods then a sharp curve to the left. You can go with speed to the next obstacle or choose a very technical line because it opens up to a massive rock garden under a bridge followed by mini grand canyon of wash outs in the dirt before converging back to a single track. Note!! pay attention to the directions of the day (Clockwise or Counterclockwise). There are many little feeder paths running parallel to the railroad so stay on the path well worn (no pun intended). About .4 miles from the Canal Singletrack South Trailhead there is a storm water waste project currently being worked on. Do not make my mistake and follow the hay and dirt on the right side on the pond, it is not a trail!!! Stay to the left of the pond closest to Riverwatch Parkway and it will open up to the stormwater project area, but look for a well worn dirt hill and that will be your connection back to the trail. Had a wonderful cool ride in the forest, but lesson learned for the day was set your rebound and compression after your initial loop for a better ride.

I wish the park system would add-on a playground or a contained dog park area...that would be a wonderful addition to this system. The scope of the canal here is quite impressive and to me, reminiscent of the canal that runs into…read morethe heart of Washington DC, as this one is from around the same time and has a notable aesthetic similarity. This one doesn't go all the way to the mountains, but you could easily spend a day on it on foot, and biking and boating are options as well. The infrastructure was good, and multiple open bathrooms and water fountains were available. The paths were generally quite wide (as former towpaths) and had plenty of space for bikes and pedestrians to share, with a couple of interesting exceptions. I didn't do any tours, but I expect the history is worth pursuing.

Several ellipticals; lots of bikes, one stairmaster, and some rowers in basement. They got some new weight machines and a small selection of dumbbells that go up to 50 lb. So no lunks here. The indoor track is big plus too, but the Greeneway is right there so why not just run outside? Also several basketball courts, racquetball, and activity rooms. Even craft room. But just $50/year. Can't beat that :)

This boathouse lodging is situated conveniently on the Augusta marina, so there was no parking issues. The reservation process was very easy, and we had no issues communicating with the owner all through our visit. This houseboat was an older vessel, that was restored and could easily be enough space for 4 adults. On our visit we just had 2 adults, so the full size bed was more than comfortable. They also have two two size buckbeds that could be used for kids or other adults. This houseboat was very cozy and comfortable. It is usually well-attended and I have not had any safety concerns; it certainly feels better than comparable areas on the other side of the river. There are plenty of bikers, but the trail is generally wide enough not to present any major issues of overcrowding. It's definitely a good way to get a taste of the environment without driving too far from the city.
