Clearly one of the best in the United States for venue and sound. Both the concert locale (Severance Hall) and the orchestra are exquisite! We've attended a number of Cleveland Orchestra performances at Severance Hall, the last of which was Mozart Piano Concertos 9 & 21 with Mitsuko Uchida who absolutely rocked a piano like no man's business! The best way I can describe why the Cleveland Orchestra rates far better than many others is this. Other area orchestras we've witnessed such as Toledo and Pittsburgh know their music well and are technically proficient at performing them. However, the Cleveland Orchestra goes beyond just playing the notes correctly. They bring a refined softness, expression, and depth to the music. And their musical unity is so spot-on that when a section plays a note you don't hear more than a single instrument. Amazing! This jewel is absolutely one of the only reasons why we come to downtown Cleveland!

The annual Christmas concert with the Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall is a must see event for any music lover in Northeast Ohio. Severance Hall overlooking the Reflecting pond at the Cleveland Museum or Art is simply stunning in the tradition of the classic European grandeur with a beautiful Art Nouveau twist. The interior decorated for Christmas is picture perfect while the acoustic quality of the Hall resonates with a warmth of tonal quality. The Christmas concert is a well balanced mix of holiday standards and some obscure pieces that meld into a delightful collection. The traditions of the concert (No spoilers will be reviled for the first time visitors) are wonderful touchstones that you'll be looking forward in experiencing and possibly participating in. If you have ever attended this concert you'll know the joy of the experience. If you have never been to Severance or seen the Orchestra make a point of going. It doesn't matter if your a rocker, country fan or what ever your music taste might be, you'll enjoy the show.

    Nosferatu!

Went to Severance Hall for a viewing of Nosferatu and while the black and white silent movie was more funny than scary, the organist did an outstanding job playing the organ. I did not realize how many different high and low sounds it could make! Sounds like a bunch of different instruments in one! Also love that the organist came out in an Indians hat to celebrate our first game in the World Series. Our seats were middle upper balcony ($40 each) and I must admit, we were a bit squished in and were not the most comfortable (honestly this probably had a lot to do with the older gentleman next to me manspreading aka: sitting with his legs wide open and having a total disregard for my personal space, and with the person behind me who kept hitting my seat), but I enjoyed the experience there so 2 hours of a sore butt wasn't that bad of a deal. However, if I had the money I would definitely be one of those ballers on the second floor in the box seating area! They have much nicer chairs and plenty of leg room. Staff was friendly and helpful. Plenty of bathrooms around. Elevators if you can't take the stairs. They have a concession stand if you would like a drink or some popcorn. You can pay for parking or do like we did and snag some street parking by L'Albatros, eat there then just walk 10 minutes to Severance Hall. I have also seen the Cleveland Orchestra perform the score for Indiana Jones at Blossom Music Center and it was awesome. It's a really great atmosphere for families or a date; you can curl up under a blanket on the hill and enjoy a picnic while taking in the wonderful entertainment! (Parking and traffic is a hot mess, but I don't mind). Would definitely recommend checking out the Cleveland Orchestra wherever they are performing!

Alice Davies, eat your heart out.

Eight years worth of Fairmount moments later, this review is well overdue. AMBIANCE: The ambiance allows you to slow down and enjoy your company. The restaurant is dim lit, has fireplaces, and loungey atmosphere. It somehow feels warm and I heard a lot of people refer to it as a second home (people are always so friendly here!). There is ample space - three bars, main dining space, and huge outdoor oasis bar. Nestled in Cedar Fairmount neighborhood, you'll also be able to enjoy historic neighborhood. There are seating arrangements if you're craving company or want to enjoy your date. Seating options include couches by the fireplace, tables, and high tops. Fairmount is delightful during every season. During the summer you can enjoy the bar and patio. In the winter you can dine at the igloos. I prefer all seasons here. FOOD/DRINKS: The menu at Fairmount is impressive and has exciting seasonal/weekly additions. You'll never get bored. The cocktails here are refined, very boozy, and very well crafted. The food is seriously delicious, and consistent every single time. I've been impressed with every dish. The dishes and drinks frequently follow the seasons. During my latest visit I enjoyed Butter Pecan Warm Cider with bourbon ($12, so bold and boozy, tastes like fall). I also ordered Fig Trouble Little China ($15, a more rich version of Old Fashioned, so delicious). I also tasted Short Rib & Risotto for the very first time ($28, such a delicious dish, every bite was just amazing). My favorites? Ah, so hard! I'll go with the Fairmount Burger! It's angus beef burger with bacon-fig chutney. It's so delicious! I can't even be serious about meat at the other burger places, this is easily the best burger in the city. My seasonal favorite? Kevin McCallister seasonal drink that resembles coquito or eggnog. The drink is topped with rice paper that includes the design of Kevin from Home Alone. It's such a fun tradition! I look forward to this drink all year and always tell the world about it! SERVICE: The service is excellent. I haven't been anywhere where service is right on point every single time. Everyone is nice - the owner, hosts, and waitstaff. You truly feel seen and like the most important guest. I've visited previously while on dates and frequently dine here solo, always had the most pleasant service. EVENTS: Many people book events here for their non-profits or companies. As far as individual events, Fairmount hosts a fun NYE party every year! PARKING: Onsite parking lot is available at the back of the building. You can enter through the front doors on Cedar or right through the parking lot door. There are numerous reasons why I love the Fairmount. I consider it to be the best dining experience in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood of Cleveland Heights. I also love how the owner Jake is very engaged in the community and is incredibly friendly with the surrounding business owners. I'll choose this place again and again for calming ambiance, crafted cocktails, and delicious food. To many more years of Fairmount and at Fairmount!

She presents herself along Euclid and East streets the best, in my opinion - from the outside. Once inside - the main Grand Foyer is not to be missed! Even the side street and back door entrances, and the lower level lobby and vestibule areas beg to be inspected and enjoyed visually and audibly, as the sounds echo off the beautiful marbled floorings. The music hall is a jewel that showcases all of what is right with the art deco movement - and acoustically allows for the magnificent capture of sounds from the silence of a pin drop to the booming bass drums in a Sousa March - or monolithic Wagner Orchestral sounds - they are all to be enjoyed with every style and volume in between. I have enjoyed each visit and treasured each one - looking forward to the next one! Erin was our server and she was amazing, from beginning to end! We would come back just for her, but I know she works limited hours because she's busy being an epic artist! She let my dad tell her dad jokes and when he wanted to meet Leo (because he looks like Fish from Shoresy and my mom thought he was hot) they obliged which was truly going above and beyond (even if it made me and my sister a little awkward). The boudin balls were great! Very similar to New Orlean's verisons so that was great! We also tried the hot rocks which were also great! Our table tried both gumbos, the jambalaya and the crab cakes. All of which were delicious and the closest you'll find to NOLA style around here! For dessert my mom scored the last creme brulee which made her day and the rest of us had beignets. Their beignets are definitely not Cafe Beignet or Loretta's level, but they are still absolutely delicious as their own dessert, like a mix between a funnel cake and a beignet! Drinks were also amazing! It's one of like 3 places you can get a Pimms cup in Cleveland! They had a lot of other cool options and Sunday looks like it's usually an all day happy hour so we have to go back! And finally, I just have to note how beautiful the place is. I would also like to say that I am very impressed by how vegan forward Cleveland is. Idk why I wasn't expecting it. I doni't even feel like I experience this shit in NY but maybe I am not going to the right places. Anyways, we sat at the bar and went to work ordering our beverages. It was early enough that I could benefit from more caffeine so I was pleased to see a coffee-esque cocktail with vodka. GF ordered the sangria. I embarrassed myself a lil by assuming the three pierogi could be mix and match which they cannot. We wanted the classic potato and cheese but also wanted to try one of the vegan ones so went with the sweet potato and black bean. I was further thrown for a loop when I was asked what sauces I want. Oh my god there are sauces to choose from?!? Did I even read the menu? The bartender threw out some options I couldn't argue with: sriracha something creamy maybe sour cream or mayo? and French onion which was intriguing. Both were SO good. The pierogi were also spectacular. They were HUGE and the filling was to die. Diamond in the rough.
