About 2.5 years ago, I got overly zealous when practicing at home a head stand I had just learned from yoga class. As I was in what was to be my last head stand, I felt a little pop in my neck. I don't think it was anything super serious but I definitely aggravated something. For weeks, then months, I felt a constant tingling, numbness and at the worst of times, throbbing pain in my shoulders, upper back, and all down my arms. I could not sleep because of it. It got to the point where I felt anxiety every time I went to bed, whether it was for the night or just a nap, because I knew those uncomfortable sensations would always get worse when I was laying down. All this time, I was seeing another chiropractor, a physical therapist, a message therapist, an accupuncturist, a Graston/active release technique therapist , and yes I even tried going to a hypnotist once, something I would normally never even consider. I tend to stay away from pain meds but any reservations were thrown out the door because I was so desperate for relief and sleep. But even the meds only provided temporary relief, and only sometimes. I heard about Dr Figone from another body practitioner whom I trusted. After my very first adjustment with Dr Figone, the pain was completely gone when I laid down! No more numbness or tingling between my shoulder blades and down my arms that would keep me awake all night. I was able to sleep soundly for the first time in months! It was almost like a miracle to me, and I have not missed a single session with Dr Figone since that very first visit. Not only is my pain level back to my pre-head stand incident, it's lower than it's ever been since I was a kid. I'm not 100% pain free and don't expect to ever be but my pain is less chronic and much less severe. I attribute this to a combination of Dr Figone's adjustments, Graston/ART which is performed by a different chiropractor, regular use of these little orange massage balls I got through Amazon, and kinesiology tape as needed. I used to go to Graston/ART every 2 weeks at my worst stage but now only go a few times a year, but I still see Dr Figone every month religiously. I know her adjustments have improved my body mechanics and continue to keep me at a stable level so I don't have to rely on the Graston/ART as much. I have been to several chiropractors before Dr Figone and I will say that they tend to be more "traditional" chiropractors. I'd walk in and they'd perform a series of standard adjustments. No matter which chiropractor it was, the adjustments would all be pretty much the same. I often got the impression that they performed nearly the same adjustments with everyone. Not so with Dr Figone. Her adjustments are more gentle and I'm positioned differently compared to the other chiropractors. I feel like her adjustments are more personalized and she can pinpoint the exact area of my neck or back that is tight. Although Dr Figone is not exactly cheap, (and you wouldn't expect any practice in Alamo to be,) when I think about all the money I spent on massages and physical therapists and accupuncture and everything else that didn't work, I'm actually saving a fortune by going to Dr Figone because I'm truly getting better with her help. You don't realize how important your health is until it's all jacked up, and I consider Dr Figone's services a bargain for the relief it's provided me.

I hardly ever scream when visiting Dr. Robyn. Even when they bring the "Adjuster" out, I can pretty…read moremuch stifle my screams. I have been a patient of Dr. Robyn Chementi for many years, and I am pleased with the results. Yes, it sometimes does smart a bit, but it's worth it. The doctor is now practicing in a brand new facility in Danville, in the pleasant Livery Shopping Center. The office looks brand new, and it's really comfy inside. They even have free coffee in the waiting area. Besides the treatment rooms, they also have an area for massage near the back. On my most recent visit, I had very sore neck and shoulders. The doctor worked out some of the knots, then used the "stim" machine in conjunction with heating pads. "Stim" is just a nice way of saying, "Lets give you some shocks." This is perhaps my favorite part of the treatment. Working at the electric company, I naturally appreciate electrical machines like this. They put electrodes on your body. They sort of stick to you--I think that makes the shocking work better. As the doctor turns up the voltage, you can feel a little bit of tingling, but it's not too severe. You just say, "Stop," and she turns it up a little bit more, then stops. It's pretty exciting. The doctor also released the pressure in my neck and back. She sort of rolls you over and squeezes really hard. At that point, you hear some cracking noises coming from various body parts. But they're usually good cracking noises. It feels really good when it's over. Another fun device is a machine called the "Adjuster." It sounds like something parents use on misbehaving children, but no, it's actually for adjusting parts of your body. The doctor presses it against your back and hits a button. Then, it hammers you sort of like a jackhammer on a street, but not quite that hard. In the old days, it could only adjust you once, but with the electric kind you can adjust the patient a whole bunch of times, with just one button push. It's much more efficient that way. At the end of my treatment, Dr. Robyn also used a fun device called a scraper. (Well okay, that's probably not the scientific term, but it seems accurate anyway.) I thought it was made of plastic, but on a recent visit, the doctor showed it to me. It's actually thick metal. It sort of looks like brass knuckles. She rolls it along your skin digging in a little bit. It's not really as bad as it sounds, and it's very helpful. As the treatment today was proceeding, I actually felt my muscles beginning to relax. Keep in mind that treatment can be a little stressful on your body, so plan on drinking lots of water and perhaps taking a nap afterwards. Of course, I'm far too young to take naps, but you older patients might wish to do so. Seriously, I appreciate the professionalism from Dr. Robyn. Plus, she's just a flat-out nice person. I pretty much trust the doctor, but I still watch carefully when she's at the dials of that stim machine. Trust, but verify.
