This place tells you once you leave your items you can't have them back if they give you a price that you don't accept so I will never be coming here again I just left with all my things after wasting a lot of time preparing what I was bringing them and driving from far away over an hour to be told there's nothing you can do about whatever the price they want to give you. I had Gucci, Versace, Roberto Cavalli, Trina Turk, Marmont etc all high end designer. Then they have an employee who looks 16 that has not even the slightest clue as to what kind of a scam this is and is just reading a script she memorized. Completely ridiculous & amazed that this place has the rating it has scamming people for their things like this. read more

Visiting from Sacramento this weekend and happened to stumble upon this gem of a shop while looking for the penny ice cream spot down the street and I'm so glad I did! It's a well organized shop with both new and well loved items also a great selection of gift options! The energy was fresh, fun, and honestly kinda fabulous... I could have lingered a lot longer, but ice cream was calling my name! If you're visiting from out of town, or a local that has yet to check the closet shopper out... this spot is a must! I agree with the previous reviews. I have sold here a few times and they don't buy much and didn't want any of my expensive designer stuff. Diesel jeans that retail for $250-350, Coach clog sandals in pristine shape, and very unique/rare. Or my All Saints shoes. Most of the stuff sold there seems like Forever 21, Target brand. Not sure what they are going for when buying, it may be time to re-evaluate their (potential) customer base?? read more

My favorite store in SC County fer sure! The clothes they accept are trending, in great condition and frankly hip as hell. And they are intermixed with cool new items like bras, hats, jewelry, bags, beach blankets, and so much more! I was in Monterey and was at a busy thrift shop. Overheard the staff talking about how excited they were to be taking a 'field trip' to check out "the best shop in Santa Cruz: The Closet Shopper. I butted into their conversation to tell them "it's true!" They were in for a fun field trip. This store is NOT to be missed if you are visiting from out to town and should be visited regularly if you are local. read more

I used to sell large lots of items here a few times a year, but lately they refuse to buy anything I bring in. I buy very high quality clothing and accessories, so it's a puzzling thing. I took the time to look around the store last time I was in, and they seemed to be selling mostly jeans, tee shirts and junky-looking shirts. What the heck are they buying used? Just jeans? I won't bother trying to sell here again. But I have to wonder about the "Do you want us to donate the items?" question they ask after telling you that the buyer didn't want any of your stuff. I wonder how much of the "to be donated" stuff either goes home with employees or is sold online. Call me cynical, but I don't think all of that refused merchandise is going to Goodwill. read more

I love to by used clothes for many reasons. I used to go to the closet shopper when it was midtown and would honestly find the best gems. I still have one of my favorite pairs of Hudson jeans I bought from there years ago. Since they opened up on the east side I been going there every so often hoping I find some really cool stuff ...however several times I have come across cheap used clothes such as forever 21 :(! Am Not sure why they are even selling used forever 21 it's very strange to me. They used to sell amazing brand names high quality stuff! I have sold to them and I would say that I buy pretty high quality stuff and barely anything sold... not sure what's going on but I do miss the closet shopper downtown deeply! The staff at this store need a refresher in customer service. Or at least recognizing people when they walk in your store. Went a few days ago, and not once did they greet or recognize we were there. The two ladies in the front were too busy gossiping over someone who just recently went and was trying to sell some clothes. So, If you want to be talked about by the clothes you're trying to sell, then this is the place to go!! So sad. Learn some decency and respect those who are even trying to give you business. Everyone told me to go here to sell clothes instead of Crossroads because they buy more stuff....I found the opposite! Maybe I'm just being bitter because they didn't buy a single piece I brought in, but I'm confused as to what type of clothes they are actually looking for? I had cute free people, Bershka, Zara, H&M, leather booties by Clark, jumpsuits, rompers (stuff girls in their 20's always compliment on that no longer fit me) If I set up a garage sell out front their store I bet I could have sold a bunch of it! I used to LOVE this store and would travel down from the peninsula to come down and bring items to trade and sell. They have beautiful jewelry and the owner is super friendly. I have had now two awful experiences in the last few months. Arriving from the peninsula only to find two women "working" while gossiping about their lives and turning away customers saying they were "full" at 11am. I get that they have a lot of bags to go through but it was not impossible and they offered no solution or apology to the fact that we drove over an hour in the car with all of our stuff to come down. You owe part of the success of this store to loyal customers who provide merchandise. This is a secondhand shop. It put a bad taste in my mouth. As they say, never lose a customer. What's NOT to love about this place?! Great selection of clothes, bags, locally designed jewlry, perfume, candles, scarves, bags and other goodies. I love popping in for a quick gift but I usually end up sticking around perusing the racks of clothes. Before I know it I have a jacket, make up bag, candle and a pair of earrings. I saw their sign that they were looking for Free People, chunky sweaters etc. yesterday so I dropped off a bag. Today I go to pick it up.. they took none of the free people and the girl didn't give me any feed back and the sign was gone. Pretty strange... I also noticed they don't really do sales or rotate inventory and tend to buy in small, extra small, medium.. larges are rare.... there are a few dresses and sweaters that have been there for months, maybe its time to develop a new system? Also- they wont let you use their bathroom... even a little girl was denied. While I enjoy a good find... Sometimes I can score a great silk piece, but the amount of exhilaration and forver21 can get old. Over all I'd say its a hit or miss. The clothes are never over worn so that is a plus! And 5 star rewards help bring the price down. Haven't bought any of their accessories or jewelry so I cant comment on that. read more

I always regret going into this store. There is no welcoming or happy vibe. The staff could stand to learn retail 101: acknowledge people when they're in your shop. I didn't get a hello or an offer to hang the many items I was carrying around. There was also clothes piling up in the dressing rooms and there was only me and one other patron in the store at the time. While I support recycling clothing, I won't be going there again. read more

I love this place when I've got $20 burning in my pocket. Its great for finding a unique item. The store feels very curated to keep you in there for a long time and it definitely works. I do wish it was organized by size. The jewelry is very pretty, but most of them do not list what type of metal they are made of. This makes me question its quality, and makes me VERY hesitant to purchase it. I would love to see more second hand jewelry and higher quality metals. Overall, its a great place to add to your list of local thrift. *** Update: I tried going in on a Tuesday to sell some of my clothes, and the lady said they had already filled up and were done buying for the day. I said "okay no problem, I'll come back tomorrow. Is that okay?" She responded affirmatively and I left. The next day I came back and a woman (I'm assuming to be the manager) was there. I brought in my bag and she informed me that they only buy clothes on certain days and that Wednesday was not a buying day. I told her that her employee the previous day had said I could come in to sell my clothes. If they had a policy about that, she should have informed me at that time, before I wasted my time and gas coming back for no reason. The manager got frustrated with me and insisted that her employee wouldn't have neglected to inform me of their policy. I will be hesitant to shop or sell my clothes to a company that has such rude customer service. Im disappointed. read more

I've been here twice, both times I've found the staff to be incredibly rude. They do NOT acknowledge your presence. It's almost as if they think you're lucky to shop there. Most of the clothes are hideous. If you put in the time, you MIGHT be able to score a decent pair of jeans! In fact, I wouldn't have returned if I hadn't been looking for a certain type of jeans. I really don't understand their buying process. I brought the same clothes in accidentally one month apart and what they originally rejected they ended up purchasing!!! read more

It's OK. I haven't had a lot of luck buying or selling at either location. I don't think they are as up to the minute as they claim to be and they're a little on the expensive side for what they have. Frankly when it comes to most resell stores you're probably better off digging around in thrift shops. I didn't find the staff to be rude at all, so I don't understand those reviews. If you are over a size 12 you probably won't have any luck shopping here. And they don't particularly want you as a customer. read more

Nice blend of used clothing and new items, such a handmade jewelry, bags, candles, textiles, glassware, lotions... You won't stumble across any true vintage treasures, but the clothing is well curated, in very good condition and nicely organized. Both the SC and Capitola stores have a lot of Forever21 clothing - not sure what that means in the scheme of things, but just something I noticed. read more

I love the Closet Shopper! The curated selection of clothing makes it easy to find a cute affordable outfit without having to pour through racks and the feeling of shopping there is like a boutique instead of a thrift-store. In addition to used clothing there is a really cool selection of jewelry and other little items like wonderful smelling lotions. I think most of it is locally made too. It's definitely worth checking out. The people working there have always been nice to me so I'm not sure what the other reviewers were talking about-- but I'm not really into it when salespeople hover over me. read more

My daughter and I visited this shop for the first time yesterday. We both had a great time perusing the great variety of clothing items. Both my daughter (ladies 5) and myself (ladies 14) were able to find several pieces that we adored. We also purchased a new purse and ooh'd and ahh'd over their earring and bracelets. I found this store to have a nice variety where moms and daughters can both find something nice. Prices were very affordable and reasonable too. I have stopped by 4 times hoping to have a better experience. Rude, rude, rude!!! I had to call to the back room 3 different times to get the clerk to come to the front, they make it so hard to do business with them. Everything is a fight, stressful encounters, difficult discussion, doesn't know how to answer a question... so frustrated I just walked out. I have worked in retail for 25 years. Those people have a LOT to learn when it comes to customer service skills. Don't waste your time, you are not missing anything except the opportunity of having your day ruined!!! read more

I had gone in yesterday to facilitate selling some amazing pieces, including Victorias Secret, True Religion, Lucky and Free People...lots of them. I was told today is a selling day, and to get there AFTER 5:30pm. After a long hard day at work, I came in hauling two big bags of beautiful clothing in my tired arms. The OWNER was behind the counter, and instead of being gentle and saying "I'm so sorry we can't make anymore purchases today" and perhaps guiding me to a better option...she screamed to the door "We're all full on buying!!! We aren't going to even look at your stuff!" I told her I had some beautiful pieces, and she didn't give a sh*t, still yelling, and not considering that I WORK during the day. Too bad lady....learn decent customer service, and how to speak to other human beings. I probably would have just TRADED my clothes, but you were horrible. At the very least, understand that I have some great pieces, and accept me dropping off my bag. read more

I am so addicted to this store! I love it ~ I go once or twice every three weeks. I get to trade a little in and then find something fabulous. Two dresses that were amazing three weeks ago and then the perfect pair of boots last week. I walked into the store, and there, just waiting for me - the boots!! I will def return! I always try to bring a friend or two for fun! The store is very well organized which is helpful ~ whatever mood I am in, I can find what I am looking for right away. I have always liked the downtown store, but for some reason, the Eastside shop is really just perfect for me! Thanks Closet Shopper for expanding! The last time I went in they only bought one item in my bag, but the employee took the time to explain that they had just had a busy buying week and so they were not able to take very much on the particular day that I came in. She was very sweet and almost apologetic and encouraged me to bring more on a different date. I thought that was very understandable. It seems to me that the reason this store has such high quality is because they are so particular. I don't expect to sell very much, and then when they do take a few items, I feel great and have enough credit to go towards my purchase! It also seems to me that they take a little from each person, instead of taking one whole bag first thing in the morning and then shutting down the buying for the rest of the day. That seems very fair to me and I appreciate their "share" attitude. I can't wait for Thursday... my next scheduled shopping date! read more
