Another of us had the Steak and Mushroom Pie - she loved it (and she's picky). The fish and chips were huge portions but we've decided that all fish and chips kind of taste the same anymore so while they were good, they were otherwise unremarkable. I had the apple crumb for dessert and it was awesome along with a whoopass cup of coffee. The staff was very friendly and took good care of us. The place is decorated with airline models on the ceiling beams and they've got a really nice vintage R/C Spitfire hanging from the ceiling too. Overall it was a lovely experience and a place I recommend.

The staff were very welcoming and we found a number of real ales on, although I don't recall seeing any craft beers. There's an outside courtyard and apparently a large room at the back with a stage where they host live music. The walls are decorated with various old paintings, and there's a fire place in one part of the pub. It's easily a place where I could see whiling away an afternoon or evening in a very traditional setting! They weren't serving food when we were there which was a little surprising given it was a Saturday evening, but someone said they were doing food at lunchtime. Although, with a food hygiene rating of 2 out of 5 according to the Scores on the Doors website you may not want to eat here anyway. Hopefully I will make it back at some point to enjoy the pub some more! Possibly skipping the food though...

It's a five minute detour from junction 8 of the M11, and so much nicer than the motorway service area. Bentfield Green is a pretty Essex village and the pub overlooks the village green which is surrounded by attractive cottages. We sat in the sunny garden at the rear of the pub and opted for the 'Fish of the Day' and the 'Prawn and Avocado Salad'... and wow! I have never seen such a huge portion of prawns on one plate! Was somewhat less than impressed by the glass of coke I was served, which was poured from an already open 2 litre bottle and was rather flat. However, the quality of our meals and the memory of those prawns will definitely take us back next time we are passing. I'll just make sure I drink something other than Coke!

Great vegetarian, kids and meat eater choices, with great staff and a wonderful atmosphere. Jaime visits this place sometimes since he lives near by. We stayed here two nights and we had several meals. The head chef was very nice, he met with us and we always appreciate that when we travel. One morning my taxi did not come to pick me up and Jaime's dad asked one of the chefs drive me to work, such a nice gesture for being a guest here. The food was amazing, we loved the home made traditional British steak pie served with mashed potatoes, the pork chop, seafood grill, beef liver and may other dishes we have tried. I have posted several food pictures to share the experience. The restaurant is old and charming, the ceiling was a little low, but rustic with a very nice homey ambiance. Lots of antique decorations displayed inside the restaurant. To check into the B&B you have to go to the restaurant bar, brilliant, I loved that. The rooms of the B&B are nice, good size, cozy and it truly makes you feel like you are in the British countryside. We even got invited for afternoon tea by the local cricket team. If you are in the area this place is a MUST.
