Three years ago when I moved back to Central Texas to the Hill Country, I was dreading the task of finding a new person to cut my hair and trim my beard. I confess I'm not a Super Cuts sort of guy. I tried a couple of places in San Marcos since I work at Texas State, but I never was really satisfied. I live just outside of Wimberley, so I finally decided to give Josh Poole of The Color Bar a try. Aside from being extremely talented, Josh is always willing to work with me. If I decide I want to let my hair grow a little longer, he makes it happen. If I tell him I want to go crazy with color, he's right there with ideas. When it's time for a cut and trim, I always look forward to seeing Josh. He has become quite a good friend. Over the two years I have been going to this shop, I have noticed how much pride he takes in finding new ways to make improvements to the space, the equipment, etc. I can't recommend him highly enough. read more

They do very good work with men's haircuts/styling. James knows his stuff--I just trust him to make me look younger and thinner (lol.) I feel comfortable going there during the pandemic. They are taking the neccessary precautions. They were one of the first local business to shut down before being told to do so. They are concerned about safety. read more

TL:DR - Amazing cut and color! Cannot say enough good things about my experience with Joshua at Kokopelli! Why was I so worried about visiting a new salon? I moved to Hill Country a year ago and let my hair get out of control! I asked around, and every time I mentioned that I needed someone who did great color and wasn't afraid to take charge and give me honest opinions and good direction, everyone said, "go see Joshua!". My initial appointment consisted of a haircut and a color consult. Joshua was thorough, honest, and was not afraid to tell me what was, and was not a great idea for my hair at that time. Joshua listened to me, made some suggestions, and gave me an amazing haircut! We consulted on what I wanted for color and I made an appointment for the following week. My color appointment was great! We talked a bit, confirming what I wanted and he took charge, trying something that I hadn't done before, resulting in beautiful highlights that make my hair look sun-kissed! Went in on Saturday to get my nails done after calling 4 times with no answer. Walked in and the lady that "greeted" me was obnoxious as it seemed like an ludicrous idea to get ones nails done on a Saturday. She said "Vicki doesn't work on Saturday's, you should have called!" By this point I was already a little annoyed and over the idea of spending my money at a "salon" that can't pick up the phone on a working day and I left but as a small town with 2 nail salons, I was happy to spend my money at NV Nails next to Brookshire brothers. If you're going to be open for business, maybe specify or answer the phone when someone calls looking for a service. Just a thought! read more

He's not afraid to do the bold cuts, which makes us happy because we've had trouble getting stylists to cut as short as she wants it. I recently moved to Wimberley and needed to find a Hair Stylist! Whenever I admired someone's hair-cut and hi-light, I would ask: "Who is your Hair Stylist?" The consistent reply: "JOSH at Kokopelli Salon, he is fantastic and affordable!" I rang Josh, whom was very inviting to book my appointment. Josh cut my hair which received rave reviews! A couple of months passed and I booked a hi-light appointment. My former hair stylist insisted no color will cover gray, he just blended it in with blonde hi-lights! Therefore, I was very concerned with coloring my gray hair. Josh's EXCELLENT EXPERTISE colored the gray, blended the colors to look like my natural hair color! Once again, I received compliments on my hair :) Josh also volunteered to thin-out my son's hair! He was very pleased really liking the results! My biggest compliment is to give Josh referrals. I was a walk-in for a pedicure and eyebrow wax, they got me right back. Vicky was my nail tech and she did a great job and took her time which I appreciated. The salon was very clean and nice. I also had Kathy wax my eyebrows, she took her time and they look great. *Vicky told me that she will no longer be taking cards and to bring cash or check for her. I am very pleased I found Joshua when we relocated to Wimberley a few years ago. He is a great colorist and the Brazilian blowout is a wonderful addition that greatly helps shorten the time to style my hair daily. My husband also now has Joshua cut his hair and he has commented on what a great barber he is. Joshua has been very flexible and accommodating. Everyone in the salon is very welcoming and friendly. Visited in hopes to get my hair color changed, I had recently dyed my hair with Demi-permanent dye and was having trouble getting it out. I was hoping to put dye on top and avoiding bleaching to get the yellow tones out. First, when I arrived I was told by my hairdresser that there wasn't enough time to do my hair (even though I told the woman on the phone, I was coming in for hair coloring, she didn't book me long enough) and the hairstylist for the remaining time continued to make nasty faces at me. She then brought her boss in to asses my hair, basically told me that the only color I could go (keep in mind, VERY faded yellow hair, mostly out) was NEON ORANGE or DARK PURPLE) I have never seen such lack of knowledge with hair color, that was some bs. Do yourselves a favor, you want a decent hair color? GO TO A SPECIALIST Not this small town yee-haw stuff. The specialist will charge less too. Never going back again. read more

Cathy is an amazing hair stylist who takes her time to make sure you get a good cut. I've been cursed by trying to grow out a really bad cut, and she worked miracles to get me back on the road to good hair. I'm on vacation, but would travel the 4 hours to get a cut from her again. If your new to Wimberley. it's in the Pizza Hut Building, wrapped around the side opposite the pizza parlor. I really like the independent stylists that work at the salon, as well as the massage therapist. However, I took my six year old into the shop last week for a haircut. When the stylist finished with my daughter, she waxed my eyebrows. During this 15 minute process my daughter was visiting with another child in a separate room. Unbeknownst to me. A gentleman (an owner) was redirecting the kids repeatedly. He was confronted by another patron because he spoke to the children in an irritable manner when they were carrying on a conversation with an adult employee. He argued with that patron. He then approached the stylest and I, as I was paying for my wax and daughters haircut, and completely ignored me and redirected her to deal with the kids. It then hit me he was referring to my child. I was right there. He should have spoke to me, not my kid, and not my stylist. When confronted he stated he was running a business. I get that, but that business offers children's haircuts. His business at that point was putting blue highlights in his mother's hair. Whom was not with a paying customer. Three adults and two kids that have consistently come in twice a month, won't be back. That's unfortunate for the other two stylists we use. As well as the massage therapist. I'm not asking for a daycare, which he apparently stated after we left, that he wasn't running, but I would like the courtesy of being spoken to face to face. I would imagine that others would like the courtesy of not walking through his cigarette smoke at the entrance to his salon, and I would have appreciated him not interrupting my conversation with my stylist to talk about what he was doing to the other owners hair. Good grief. What a shame. This was a very unnecessary and awkward suituation. I hope the stylists rethink their situation at this business and open there own salon. Don't take your kiddos there since he firmly stated, "no more kids". He apparently doesn't need the business. read more
