I have to preface my review with a disclosure: I've been dyeing and bleaching my hair since I was 13 years old. I've gone through stages where I've had pink and black hair, auburn hair, white blonde, etc. I've had my hair dark brown for the past two years now and decided I wanted to go back to my natural hair color (dirty blonde). I was a little hesitant for the change since I once went back to my natural color from red hair within one session and my hair was completely fried and took two months to finally feel manageable. Crystal took care of me when I went in back in December and I told her what I was wanting to do and she told me immediately that one session was not going to cut it since my hair would be damaged. I expected as much and was really grateful that she was up front about that instead of trying to do it all in one session. She was really nice to me and made me feel comfortable despite being hungover and barely able to function. I had a wedding to attend the day of getting my hair done and everyone complimented it. So while my hair wasn't entirely blonde, it was still beautiful and lightened enough for people to notice. I can't wait to make my next appointment to continue working on this mop of hair that I've got. read more

I made an appointment online and arrived 5 minutes prior to my appointment time. The stylist who I had an appointment with told me she was running 15-20 minutes behind and told me to go "grab a coffee or something." I arrived back to the salon after 15 minutes and waited. A half an hour after my appointment time my stylist was still working on the client she had in the chair. I asked her to cancel my appointment and I left. Not a good experience for a first time client. I won't be back. read more

I have a hectic, busy schedule, so Casey's scheduling app makes it easy to ensure I get an appointment that works for me. This salon is badass! Everything about it -- from the general aesthetic to the women behind the chairs in the mint green spot on N LBJ. I went from a boring, basic brown to oooo la la almost blonde in a matter of 2 hours with Shea and her magic with balayage. She is a true pro! I thankfully had no previous color in my hair so my transition was smooth and painless. Shea knows what she is doing and is honest with you about everything. I trusted her instincts as a stylist and she gave me all the reason to trust her with my hair for the remainder of my time in San Marcos. Shea was welcoming, warm, friendly, not to mention everything you would want in a stylist. She's reasonable and fair. No question -- I will be back! My first experience at Thairapy definitely exceeded my expectations! Aside from the salon's impressive and welcoming interior, the customer service was amazing. Shea greeted me as soon as I walked in and offered me water and coffee as I waited. I arrived not knowing exactly how to say what I wanted, but to Shea it clicked. I wanted a trim and some brassiness out. She did exactly that. My hair now feels and looks so healthy. Shea is not only an amazing and clearly knowledgable hair professional, she's also such a sweetheart. Such an outgoing and easy person to talk to. Back in August of 2015 I had my naturally blonde hair dyed red by Crystal Cruz. I was so nervous, I had never dyed my hair before! Crystal was so professional and listened to everything I had to say, answered every question I asked, and looked at every picture of the shade I wanted. Definitely worth a go if you are in the San Marcos downtown area. My experience at Thairapy has been enjoyable every visit. The stylists are welcoming and I am especially thankful for Shea who has consistently done a great job!
